“Beautifully traditional”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 November 2005

Myself and a girl friend of mine stayed with Christine at the Palazzo di Pietro from 25-29 November. We went to check on my house being built in one of the villages not far away.

Choosing a hotel in Chania was a bit of a risk because the tourist season has ended but to our surprise and delight Chania was still full of charm. And the same goes for the beautiful Palazzo di Pietro. Yes, you would be right in saying there isn't as many bars and restaurants open this time of year but you can still find a cosy little traditional hideaway to fill your evening and the locals are very welcoming.

The back streets of the old harbour light up at night and it still feels that there is a magic in the air.

The Palazzo was a perfect base for us. We travelled about during the day but after tired feet we were welcomed back like we were returning home. We stayed in a small apartment, a double bed with beautiful linen and drapes and a day bed which was just as cosy. We made ourselves bread and olive oil with the best tasting oil we have had - made by Christine's father from his own olive trees. We had everything we needed and sometimes all we needed was a bed to rest our tired limbs from all the climbing, walking and shopping (yes, the shops are still open in Winter!) and no pushing and shoving and this time of year all the beautiful handcrafted Christmas gifts are overflowing!

All in all, an absolutely delightful time of year to go to western Crete if you want the beauty of the secluded and deserted beaches (one day we sat on the beach at Preveli in shorts and t shirts and it was gloriously warm) and you also get to see all the locals in their villages harvesting their numberous crops of olives for pressing! - DELIGHTFUL.

5 stars to Christine and her family, would definitly return again - such a fabulously restored hotel, full of warmth and kindness. A bit of luxury amidst the weathered streets of Chania old town.

The honeymoon suite - the rooftop garden - Christina and her family - what can we say? This was an incredible experience from the beginning to the end of our 5 days in Chania. We were overwhelmed by the graciousness and hospitality of the family - always going above and beyond. The location was so convenient to all the sights of the city. It was an experience that we will never forget. We highly recommend to everyone. A warm hello to everyone from David and Susan.

We just returned from our fabulous trip to Crete and in spite of my jet lag I must write to heartily recommend the Palazzo di Pietro to all!
I had read all of the reviews in tripadvisor.com and this was the reason why my husband and I decided to stay in this lovely Venetian palazzo.
What everyone has said is so true. Christine is the most gracious hostess that I've met on all of our many sojourns in Europe. We were treated as honored guests and were amazed at how lovely the room that we were given was...so much thought went into the detailing!
Christine, her mother and sister were incredibly gracious and we also were happy that we were able to meet and stroke their cat!
This is a top notch place to stay and Christine is very special indeed!

Christina and her father Petros are great people who run a very ambitious establishment. My only worry is that they might overwork themselves. They have been absolutely wonderful to our three year old boy who considers Petros to be his Cretan grandfather. We have stayed in Palazzo di Pietro three times and we are sure to return. My wife and I spent two weeks in Greece, one full week in Crete at the Palazo di Pietro in the old town section of Chania.

This is a very beautiful, restored and very well maintained Venetian home on a lovely pedestrian street in the old town of Chania. Just a block from the harbour, it was still fairly quiet. The owners, the Bitzinaki family were the most lovely people you will ever meet anywhere. Christine runs the place and is an exceptional hostess. We did our homework, reading the travel guides, etc. about where we would like to go and what we would like to see, but Christine offered many other tips and suggestions that made our vacation and stay on Crete one of the best holidays we have ever had. Her guidance and assistance proved invaluable, from recommendations for restaurants to helping us rent a car! Her father, Petros, and mother, Evangelia, were two of the most gracious and sweetest people who helped out when they could.

The accomodations were very lovely -large rooms, some with balconies - all decorated in traditional Greek style. It was a very romantic place. We even sat out on the roof deck "garden" to eat our greek salads and have breakfast which we made. Then, one evening, Petros arrived and brought grapes taken from their farm located outside the city.

If you are looking for a lovely place to stay - with kind and helpful people, you will not go wrong choosing the Palazo di Pietro. We would highly recommend it.

Palazzo di Pietro is a wonderful place. Exceptional location, near the old harbour, and exceptional people: Christine made us feel at home all the time and tried to teach us greek language!
Our room was perfect, big and clean and equipped with everything we could need.
We stayed in the hotel for fifteen days, visiting the magnificent west part of Crete (we've been in the island many times and we love it more than any other place in the world). Now we've found a perfect place to stay: thank you, Christine, and many thanks to every member of your warm and friendly family!
