We travel a lot and have very high standards when it comes to accommodation but we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Amalthia and would definitely recommend it to others. It's a great little hotel that has lovely, large & spotlessly clean, modern rooms and friendly, helpful staff.
We were lucky enough to stay in Room 14 which was one of the best located rooms in the hotel and its veranda led straight out onto the pool area (Rooms 11 - 15 definitely have the best views and location).
Breakfast was adequate for our requirements but by no means a gourmet feast (unless you like random things such as carrots and sweetcorn or coleslaw with your cereal!), however the food served within the hotels beach restaurant was very nice and we would definitely advise you try the baklava - Delicious!
The hotel is reasonably well located, as it is situated right on the beachfront but just a far enough walk/bus journey away from the hustle and bustle of Platanias.
Bus stops are located about 100 metres down the road from the hotel and regular services run to both Chania and Platanias where you will find a plethora of bars and restaurants to feast in. You can also take a bus at approx 9.15 in the morning to Elafonisi Beach which is well worth a visit (despite the 2.5 hour trip!).
The only downside to the hotel is the fact that you have to pay an additional 4 euros per sunlounger per day if you wish to lay on the beach rather than by the pool, which is apparently common practice in Crete but nontheless unreasonable. However if you walk a few hundred yards to the right of the hotel, you will find many bars and restaurants who offer their sunloungers free of charge as long as you buy a drink :))
Overall, The Amalthia is great value for money and definitely worth a stay if visiting Crete.

Room Tip: Rooms 11 - 15 definitely have the best views and location!

We have spent our holiday in Chania, Crete in September and it was more than we expected. First of all Chania is a must see place in terms of food, old town, amazing beaches, nature, friendly and hospitable people. Especially in our hotel we got such a good service we are thinking of spending our holiday next year in this hotel again. The beach of the hotel was excellent, the rooms and house keeping was very good. Our hotel offered us more than we paid for.

My husband and I stayed at the Amalthia Beach resort in the last week of august. we got the room no 11 which was the room closest to the pool with a sea view. I have to say i just loved the room. we enjoyed our stay very much!
The breakfast was good even thou we were always the last ones to eat right before 10 o'clock. and when we got back to the room after breakfast the room was being cleaned and organized. I was very pleased with cleanliness of the room and in general how clean the hotel was.
The staff were really friendly and helpful.
we spent our days lying on the sun beds right on the hotel's part of the beach having frappes, fresh juices ( and massages) and had lunch on hotel's bar restaurant. It was really nice and relaxing and the food was also good . we spent the nights in Chania town so we didn't experience any of the hotel's night arrangements, but they had things happening almost every night.
To conclude, we had a great vacation and want to go back next time we are in Crete! I recommend this place for anyone who want a relaxing vacation!

Room Tip: the rooms with the sea view are great. we stayed at no 11 which was great. I think the rooms on the...

We went to Amalthia from 18 to 26 of August. The room was an apartment in fact, a big one for 3 people, very spacious, very quiet (especially in the night), air conditioned, new furniture. It`s a very nice hotel.

My stay in Amalthia was a pleasant surprise.

Upgraded services, good breakfast with fresh orange juice and very clean rooms.

The beach with its wicker umbrellas was great, clean and this made the difference from the neighbors.

I recommend this resort and will be back soon

Breakfast- The breakfast was a little gross, the hot dogs gave me heartburn the whole time and the eggs were watery and runny. However, they do have options for cereal or yogurt so you can't go wrong with that.

Honestly - my oppinion is to try out Agios Nikolaos area, or the quiet areas surround Heraklion. I found it to be so much more beautiful with nicer hotels and a much nicer city as well. This hotel is really more like a budget hotel...I was disappointed and I'll never go back there again nor would I recommend it to anyone.
