On our first night in Chania, we were recommended to check out Chatzimichali Daliani Street for great dining options more frequented by locals. We strolled down the pedestrian-only street located in the "Splanzia" Turkish quarter (within a few minutes walk from the harbor, near the municipal market), and stumbled upon Kasem. We enjoyed our dining experience there so much that we returned multiple times during our stay in Chania!
The restaurant serves delightful, reasonably priced Middle Eastern dishes, and offers a wonderful alternative to Cretan/Greek/touristy fare. Our fresh feasts included hummus, baba ganoush, falafel, fattoush salad, and delectably spiced kabobs. The meals also included complementary after-dinner sweets and raki.
Beyond the tasty food, the attentive, warm, and friendly service (most notably from the owner Kasem) made our experience there a memorable one. On our last night in Chania, Kasem surprised us with an amazing mixed mezze platter and well wishes for our travels. We had a lovely time and definitely recommend Kasem - well worth seeking out!
