“Great value for the price”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 July 2014 via mobile

My spouse and I just left Royal Sun and we had an amazing time.

Pros:
- superbe view of Chania
- hotel is very clean
- personnel is friendly
- pool area is impressive and very modern
- there is a free shuttle to the city center
- wi fi working perfectly even at the pool

Cons:
- some rooms are not renovated but they are still very clean
- there is only one person at the front desk. If many clients arrive at the same time, the wait can be quite long

If we go back to Crete, we will certainly book at the Royal Sun if the prices stay the same. The value is amazing!

The place has good quality compared with average in the city.
It is not inside of the city, but they have a car service to bring you and pick up you from 10:30h to midnight.
The views of the city from the pool are really nice.
Around the hotel there is not nothing to visit by walk and the access to the hotel is not easy.

We were considering staying in Chania town, but after reading the reviews and seeing the view online we decided on the Royal Sun. I thought it might have been two far out of town at first, but after a night in Chania I was glad we picked the royal sun. It's such a relaxing hotel and away from all the madness in Chania. There is a free shuttle that will have you in the city Centre in 5min, this finishes at 12 but a taxi is only €7. The staff were excellent and Chris the manager is a sound bloke who's very approachable and helpful. Make sure you book the newier rooms if you can, we stayed in an older room. There was nothing wrong with it, but the new room are very very nice, ours was nice.

Great price for such a nice hotel. Staff is very helpful. The view is breathtaking, the rooms are spacious and clean, the breakfast had to be the thing I looked forward to the most! They offer a shuttle bus service for free between the hotel and the town which is very convenient. I would definitely stay in this hotel next time I visit Chania.

The breakfasts were sooo good. Lots of options with the buffet, including fruit, hot foods and continental options. We also had dinner twice at the hotel and the food was reasonable priced and tasty. Plus we loved the raki (Greek vodka shot type drink) and desserts provided on the house! The rooms and bathroom were spacious and clean. We weren't really interested in Chania the city and used the hotel as a base for exploring all the great beaches nearby, so it was convenient that the hotel is close to the major highway and not downtown. We also safely parked our car in the hotel's private area. We had come off the overnight ferry from Athens and requested an early check-in at 8 am. They couldn't make that happen and also got a little weird when we asked if we could have breakfast even though we offered to pay upfront for it. The staff got a little wigged out since it wasn't part of their system ... i.e. asking you your room number which we did not have because we couldn't check in early. Still, we only had to wait for about 2 hrs before we could check in at 10 am.

The best hotel I have stayed in Chania. Newly renovated, beautifully decorated room with spacious balcony. Breathtaking view from balcony overlooking the pool and the whole city of Chania. Friendly staff, good breakfast buffet, clean swimming pool. Mini bus driving to and from city center- for free- is a plus. I will visit again.

Room Tip: Ask for sea view.

This is basically a very good hotel, but we were misled by the previous reviews. Only one of them mentioned noise from the restaurant. Unfortunately, our room was immediately under the bar (in the centre of the restaurant) and there was noise from above until late at night: mainly furniture scraping on the hard floor of the restaurant above. There was also some occasional late-night shouting noise from the bar area. This problem seems to affect only a few rooms, which might explain why others don't mention it.

Room Tip: Avoid the 4th floor, especially the centre.
