I didn,t believe all the reviews on here but though that this has to be an OK place. However on arrival the hosts were brilliant. This is a small ( 16 room ) appartment hotel where we made to feel most welcome. We were helped out on a number of occasions to the extent that my daughter was even driven around town looking for a late night Pharmacy one night by the wonderfull Evita. We felt like part of the family by the time we left. The appartments are on the main Chania to Kissamou road but there was little traffic noise. The supermarket is exactly opposit but crossing the road can be a challenge. The bus runs into Chania regularly and the stop is right outside the appartments, so you don,t realy need a car but we had one which was worth it and the appartment block have their own secure parking lot.

Room Tip: There are a limited number ( 50/50 ) of pool view rooms but ask and Andreas will attempt to fit you...

The photos don't lie, there are indeed some nice flowers and the pool area is clean.
The apartment we stayed in was also very clean, although somewhat basic and plain. Not a problem, just functional.
Staff all friendly and helpful, as it should be.
However, the photos and reviews don't reveal how close the apartments are to the very busy and noisy road (at peak times it took an age to cross the road to go to the supermarket). So, there is always traffic noise and no views other than the garden at the back (we found this better as it was quieter).
There are no seats in the garden area, it's pleasant enough but simply a few conifers/shrubs interspersed with rose bushes.
The location is out of the main town and in a less than picturesque area. It's urban and more suited to industrial manufacturers than a holiday spot.
We did not walk the 2 km (approx) into Chania as it is along the dusty, busy road with nothing pleasant to look at on route. In high Summer this would be unbearable with the temperatures.
So, it's ok if you want nothing more than a small pool in an enclosed area with no views.
If not, a car is a must. You can't learn about Chania or Crete culture from Lefka apartments.
As for the nearest beach, suggest you keep some footwear on as we both got tar on our feet after a short walk along the water's edge. Also, it really isn't one of those idylic beaches you see in brochures. In reality it is strewn with litter and lined with derelict buildings complete with graffiti galore.
Still, if you venture further afield there are much nicer (& cleaner) beaches to be found.
Only ate once on site as the prices were much the same as in Chania itself; the latter with a good choice of restaurants, character and a feel of Cretan culture.

Room Tip: Quieter overlooking the garden at the back. If you prefer to see the pool then opt for the front (b...

Is it possible to live up to such high standards? Well, yes, I believe it is. We didn't get to the Lefka apartments till late, but Andreas met us at the gate and took us straight to our room - no fancy check-in needed - and let us settle in on our own. No complicated tour of all the facilites (just a quick demo of the air-con).

There's a generous-sized pool (with small child pool), which is never crowded (mainly because of the small number of apartments), and there's no fighting for sunbeds.

We felt totally safe leaving our daughter to play on her own in the water, as it was always so close - in fact, she learned to swim and dive within 3 days! Plus, there's a great selection of balls, floats and water toys to play with.

We were in a studio, which was ample for two adults and a 6yo. Cooking was cosy, but easy enough and we were left a lovely bottle of red, plus olive oil on arrival. The kitchen equipment is also very good - much better than most of what I've come across in the past.

In Evita and Andreas, Lefka has wonderful owners who do all they can to make all guests feel very at home. And, along with Anna working the bar/kitchen during the day, the quality of the food is excellent. If you're not willing to be adventurous or have fussy kids, there's definitely food available. Andreas' pork, lamb and swordfish is to die for, though and you also get lovely extra dishes, as well as amazing fruit thrown in.

The town of Chania is a short 5 minute bus ride away and if you want a beach, it's less than 10 minutes walk.

Overall, a wonderful place to stay - and if I had one small gripe, it would be the busy road, but that's very small.

we had read the reviews about Lefka and were not disappointed! We received such a warm welcome from Anna, there was a bottle of wine waiting for us in the room, the apartment was spotless and had a beautiful outlook to the pool. We used the local bus from the airport to the bus station in Chania then took a taxi from there, it only cost 7 euros.

We arrived late in the evening, it was dark and we had driven from Chania airport in our hire car. We were tired and it was a very hot evening, and we were welcomed with such kindness and sympathy that we felt we were part of their family. We were sat down in their lovely outside bar by the pool and given a cold drink to cool down and unwind a little. We were shown our room which was clean, and pleasantly furnished, with air conditioning, which was very welcome! We were worried that we had not eaten, but they very happily prepared a simple meal from their menu at the bar/cafe by the pool. We sat and chatted to our hosts while we ate, very relaxed. As we had only booked one night as we were planning to travel around, they very kindly marked up a map for us with places to visit in Western Crete, all turned out to be good choices!! We called back to see them on our return to Chania, and although they were full and could not put us up we stayed in their hotel close to the Venetian Harbour, which was also perfect for sightseeing before we caught the flight home. They have got it really well balanced and if intending to visit Chania then make a point of booking a night at least here, it is a very good place to unwind after a Ryan air flight!!!

When you read all the good reviews about Lefka in here you think it is almost too good to be true, but I promise you that you will not be disappointed!! From the moment I was greated by the taxi driver at the airport, arranged by Evita upfront, I understood that this would be a great stay. He guided me all the way to Lefka, and even in a serious matter told me to head straight over to the supermarket (just across the road you have two excellent supermarkets) to get a sunscreen with higher factor than 15...and he was right ;) Arriving at Lefka I was wished welcome...read chin kissed several times...by Anna, the best and most friendly hostess/receptionist/chef/bartender you can ask for. She calls herself the best "tip advisor", and there is nothing she would not help you to organize. Ask her to make you here famous Martini Cucumber and she will be thrilled ;) Evita looked me up on my balcony when she arrived to chat and great me properly. Upon arrival of your big group, count of 21 people the first week and 26 the last week, we made Andreas really try his small kitchen out! After some planning it all worked out when it came to dining 26 people, and the last night Andreas even threw in a lovely Greek specialty as appetizer on the house, and two extra choices on his menu. They also got a beautiful gift for our parents, as the reason for this trip was to celebrate their birthdays.

At Lefka you start your day with a smiling Dimitra (the sweetest housekeeper) wishing you calimera and morning kisses from Anna at 11.00. If you wish to stay around the pool for the day Anna (and her sweet helper) will serve you excellent smoothies, drinks, pizza, pasta or the famous Greek salad, and that to a great prize as well. Andreas and Evita arrives normally around 7, and the good familiar tone and service just keep going until you choose to find your bed or balcony. The food and the service at Lefka makes their guests stay in more nights than planned before arrival. After a few days they all knew all our names, room numbers and not at least our favorite choice of drinks of both adults and children. If you choose to go out for dining Andreas has a great collections of restaurants he can recommend, and it is not places he works with, but places he would take Evita for a nice night out.

This is a little oasis on the main road out of Chania on your way to Agia Marina and Platanias. 15 minutes with bus or 6 Euro for a taxi and you find yourself at the park in Chania, a beautiful harbor city which you could use several days exploring. At Lefka you will find the people that go out of their way to make sure that you have the best stay, and we will surely be back to see the newest member of the Lefka family (Evita and Andreas third son is planned to arrive in November 2012). We all had the best stay we could wish for, so a big hug and kiss to Andreas, Evita, Anna, Dimitra, Lilly and all their other helpers!! Thinking about this wonderful place makes our faces get back in holiday mode Evita ;))

Great crack round the bar with other guests - we'll see you next year and have more of your bloody daiquiris.
