“First visit”

It was our first time in beautiful Crete and Old Chania, and we were looking for a charming boutique hotel, close to the harbour. We found it a Casa Leone! We are fortunate enough to be able to travel extensively throughout the world and have stayed at many exceptional hotels, towns and cities. Casa Leone and Old Chania stood out for us above all. First the hotel. Nestled away amongst a maze of pedestrian walkways, we found our oasis with the help of locals. Tucked away at the end of beautiful walkways, our home away from home for a week awaited us. We were not disappointed. Casa Leone is spacious, period charming and impeccably maintained. Our rooms were spacious, fully equipped. No complaints there. We initially booked the room overlooking the boardwalk with the sensational views. This room had a generous living area with bed sofa, TV, fridge and closet. The open second level had the master bedroom. Very nice. We are light sleepers and had a problem with the street noises at night (dance music begins a midnight and ends at 6 am) our hosts were very accommodating and moved us to a mirror image back room away from the early morning noise. All was fine. IF YOU ARE LIGHT SLEEPERS, request any room other than the two facing the harbour. What made our stay above all was the service, and hospitality we received from the owner Nick, Tonia and Maria. The were amazing and went out of their way to make our stay memorable. Absolutely everything was looked after by them. Information on where to go and how to arrange it was handled by them as requested. Each morning we woke to be greeted by our beautiful Tonia, with her infectious smile and outstanding breakfast. We couldn't wait to see her each morning. Would we return, without question, we were so looked after, the small hotel was outstanding and Old Chania is spectacular. We are eagerly planning our return.

Room Tip: Stay away from the front of the hotel if you are a light sleeper

Casa Leone is filled with delight and wonder. My husband and I were fortunate enough to spend 4 nights here in the end of May and truly did not want to depart for the next spot. The stay was made extraordinary by Antonia, who puts her heart and spirit into her guests :-) Each breakfast felt as if she created the menu just for us and I think we hurried to get ready in the morning just to see her smiling face and sip the delicious coffee waiting for our lips. Antonia eagerly helped us plan each day's adventure, with my favorite being her suggestion to dare the trek to Balos lagoon, the most spectacular beach I have ever visited (and dare I say, will ever visit in the future).
We selected the only remaining room (about 7 weeks before our trip)- the Oval room. The balcony view was incredible and the bed comfy. Everything was sparkling clean. Only note is the small bathroom in this particular suite, but my husband and I have smaller frames and this didn't detract from our stay. I was worried about the reviews mentioning problems for light sleepers, but we didn't notice late night harbor noise, it was always quiet by 12 or so.
All in all, Hania, Crete was a magical destination and Casa Leone (especially lovely Antonia) helped conjure the spell.

My wife and I just spent 3 nights at the Casa Leone Boutique Hotel in June and what a beautiful, special place it is. Located in the windy, cobbled streets of old Chania, when you first enter the lobby, your breath is taken away by the beautiful balcony overlooking the harbour - a real Venetian feel. Although the 5 rooms are located directly off the central lobby (it's more like a pension), it's so quiet it makes no difference. We were in room 1 (the loft room) with a view over the courtyard and it was such an intimate and lovely (but large!) space - everything you need. But what makes the hotel so special is the staff - it's clearly owned and managed by the family - the warm greetings you get in the morning while they set up your breakfast, the interactions throughout the day, the willingness to ensure we are comfortable all the time (my wife was a little ill when we were there and they were very sweet to her - making tea etc.)...speaking to the locals, while enjoying an incredible breakfast overlooking the harbour is something I won't forget in a long time!!! Truly wonderful.

We spent 6 days at Casa Leone, two adults and two young children. It is an amazing old venetian mansion, full of character, overlooking Hania harbour. It was really nice waking up and having our breakfast while enjoying the view of the harbour. It is family run and you really feel the hospitality of the people, they really take care of you. During the day, it was very easy to walk back and have a rest with the kids before venturing out in the town again. The location is excellent as it is very central but at the same time very private as the access is from the back through some beautiful cobbled alleyways, where it is never hot even in the middle of a summer's day. There are also some very good restaurants near by. With two young kids, we always felt that we were missing out on the nightlife department wherever we have been, but our private balcony was very conveniently overlooking the harbour so it was amazing to sit out on the balcony with a chilled bottle of wine, while the kids where fast asleep inside! There is a bit of noise at night, being right on the seafront but it didn't really bother us. I am sure we will be visiting this place again in the next few years.

We chose Casa Leone for the beautiful views of the old harbor and enjoyed wonderful service during our stay.

The converted Venetian mansion has been renovated and appointed very tastefully, both within the main sitting area overlooking the harbor and within the rooms (we snuck a few peaks in the other rooms when we could).

We had the honeymoon suite with an adjoining terrace that looks out over the harbor. The room is spacious and has some very charming features from the writing desk to the massive bed with iron frame. We made good use of the terrace, whether for sunrises or late night shots of the harbor.

The two female staff members who welcomed us to the hotel, prepared our delicious breakfasts and gave us recommendations for our daily itineraries were delightful.

Breakfasts were fantastic and the staff adapted quickly to our pesky dietary needs - no gluten, issues around dairy, etc. Each day they found ways to share fresh produce and cooked options that we enjoyed.

All in all, a spectacular place to start and end your days in Chania.

This facility and staff set a bar so high that no other location in our 3 week trip was able to top. The breakfasts were outstanding. Antonia was the most delightful and charming staff we encountered. This was the first stop on our trip to several Greek islands, and it was above all others.

Room Tip: Of the 5 rooms, the 3 overlooking the water offer the best experience.

We spent 2 wonderful nights here. It all started with the warm welcome by Nick and his team and extended to the staff's willingness to go above and beyond anything we needed. Kinda felt like I was staying over at a relative's place!

The room had an awesome cosy feel that was further accentuated by the classic touches like the wonderful old school bed covered in a veil (think that's what it is called). A well presented, clean and full of character room! It was justly simply bliss having a coffee at the balcony watching the world go by below.

I chose my stay at casa lene based on the reviews and I can see that the reviewers were right on the money. I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and I am sure Nicko and his team will make sure you have a fantastic stay!

Thanks Nicko
