“Lovely old hotel in old Chania town”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 September 2013

We were charmed by this ancient hotel with rooms with a balcony overlooking the harbor.
We climbed up windy stairs to get to our third story room.
The Breakfast was delicious. The owner was very friendly and helpful, telling us about back in the day when the Zorba movie was filmed in town. A movie was also being filmed when we were there and some of the crew were staying at the hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony room overlooking the harbor. There was some noise and Greek music from the restau...

Every time I walked past Hotel Nostos on the charmingly busy street behind the harbour I wondered if the hotel was as charming as the beautifully simple vase on the table outside its breakfast room. It was. Simple, clean rather charming rooms in pinewood and stone - and a small breakfast room leading out onto the street that made getting up something to look forward to!
The only critisism I would have is the noise: You need a room facing the harbour, as People eat in the restaurants all night - which can be annoying if you like sleeping early. It can also get hot: My advice is book a room in the spring or Autumn.
A charming hotel - good value - and ideal position.

Room Tip: Choose a room early or late in the season, facing the sea

Have been there in April 2013. Great location and nice service. Authentic and really charming. Most of the rooms have a beautiful view over the old harbour of Chania. Rooms are nice. Service is nice. Terrace for breakfast is fantastic. The owner of this little hotel is very helpful and kind. I would happily go back tomorrow ....

I'be traveled a lot and I have to start by saying that this was one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed. Antiques everywhere in elegantly renovated rooms that show great attention to detail. There was a cute rooftop garden with a grape arbor. Would be great for couples. Breakfast was excellent and served with fresh squeezed orange juice.

Kids stayed in a room with for beds including a cool upper level that they loved.

If you want the view of the harbor you'll pay the price, and not a monetary one either... we did; and we would do it again. We stayed in room 1 with a balcony & view of the old Venetian harbor . All three nights the noise went well into the wee hours, like 3 - 4 in the morning. But we would do it again... it's a trade off. We stayed in the off-season so I can imagine it may be even noisier in the high season. If you're in a room away from the harbor side, you'll escape the noise. Our daughter stayed in one of those rooms and was very pleased with her quiet, dark room. Yannis was a terrific host and answered our questions with a smile. One word of note: maybe we can get Yannis and the other business proprietors of the area to band together and get city officials to ban motorcycles from the harbor promenade. They have banned cars; why not noisy motorcycles and the aggressive motorcycle drivers!! The result would make for a truly world class experience!

My husband and I went on a tour of Crete last August! Our first stop was Chania and we stayed at Hotel Nostos.

Do not expect anything fancy.. The hotel is an old home, full of charm, converted to a hotel, but the location could not be any better!

Nostos is situated right on the old, Venetian Port of Chania and the room views are incredible - overlooking the old lighthouse and the picturesque port. All the cafeterias, shops, restaurants are just a stroll away and you can just sit on the balcony and watch the hustle and bustle of the beautiful city of Chania!

The breakfast is basic (juice, coffee, cold cuts, bread, jam and hard boiled eggs) and cooked on the spot.

The owner, Yiannis, is really helpful and has made us feel at home during our stay! He has a good knowledge of the surrounding area and a lot of great suggestions!

Since the hotel is situated right in the heart of the old city, there is no car access to it! You will have to park the car around 500m away and walk. Although we visited Chania during August (peak holiday season) parking was not a problem as the municipality of Chania have allocated a couple of big parking spaces on Akti Kanari - not far from the hotel.

We would definitely choose to stay at Nostos if we go back to Chania!

Room Tip: Ask with a room with a view of the Venetian Port!

Thank you Yiannis... You made us feel at home. Our sea view room, with its mezzanine and living room was really like home.
The view of the old port with all the old houses, light tower and hamam was gorgeous. Zambeliou street is a very narrow, lively and a romantic with local stores, coffee houses and old buildings. So if you are not staying in a sea view room, don't be sad.
The breakfast was delicately prepeared by the owner Yiannis and it was tasteful.
I have one criticizm: The room might be cleaner.
For those who chose Crete, Chania, Nostos for holiday; you won't regret!
Have fun in advance!
