My wife and I stayed in the Balzis House some three years ago, not long after it had been refurbished and at that time thought that it was just about the best accommodation we had stayed in in Greece. Having just got back from a weeks stay I can honestly say that the accommodation is still imaculate. The two bed apartment we stayed in was clean, spacious and had a wonderful viwe from the balcony overlooking the mouth of Souda Bay. The pool is certainly big enough to cool off during the hot afternoons and again is imaculately clean.
Blazis House is situated no more than 200 metres from the resort centre of Almirida which essentailly comprises of a relatively quiet road which runs along the back of the beach. The road is lined with six or seven Tavernas and a couple of bars and other small shops. Almirida is a quirky little resort comprising of two or three realtivley large but by no means obtrusive Hotels and several excellent Tavernas. When we visited three years ago I got the impression that the ex pat population had quite an influence on the character of the resort, this time around I felt that this influence was not as prevalent and it felt a bit more like a Greek village, of sorts.
As well as the Blazis House being of an exceptional standard I also thought that all the Tavernas were really good, we didn't have a bad meal in any of them and at an average price of 35Euros for a two course meal for two with a litre of wine and tip, good value as well.
Overall a great place for a relaxing Greek holiday, just fantastic.
