Great location a few minutes from the Venetian harbor, but the rooms are average at best. The complimentary breakfast was a great start to the day, and the front desk very helpful.

Room Tip: Streetside rooms are noisy.

The location of the hotel is great since it is located in the old town. However there are many disadvantages: (1) very noicy both from inside and outside the hotel (2) not very clean since have found a cockroach in the bathroom (3) quite expensive if you consider that we have paid €110 per room per night without any facilities provided

We loved this hotel. The rooms are beautiful, as is the courtyard. The breakfast is amazing. (even though we kept saying we didn't want much they kept bringing more and more home made small dishes). The location is great too, very near the harbour and lots of great restaurants. Very friendly family run place.

I feel badly that it took so long to submit this review. We stayed at Hotel Splanzia for two nights back in Nov 2010 during a visit to Crete. The location is great - right in the the old section of the city, with many restaurants and shops close by. The hotel is decorated beautifully, and our gorgeous and comfortable room opened directly into the courtyard. We loved the beauty of the place, as well as the kindness of the owners. The breakfast was a definitely a highlight!

The Hotel Splanzia is family-run small hotel. Because I know Chania pretty well and this time I rented a car so we could go to remote beaches, I chose this hotel because it is well-situated at the edge of the old town with opportunities for parking on the nearby streets. There is not much parking available if you go deeper into the old town. In fact, I never parked more than 1 block from the hotel. A ten minute walk takes you to the center of the old port. The room was spacious with a high ceiling. Ours was on the front, so there was a little street noise from nasty little scooters with loud mufflers, but with the windows closed, it was fine. The bathroom was big, but the toilet space was a bit cramped. I don't know about in other rooms. My traveling partner found the bed a bit hard. It was but I prefer that. The hotel is beautifully and peacefully decorated with contemporary furniture and has a splendid patio at the rear, where in summer, you are served a delicious breakfast. There is no buffet, but you are brought cereal, breads, juice, fruit, yoghurt, honey, marmalade, coffee, tea, eggs to order, various little bakery treats of the day. etc. The hotel's wifi was strong. Only one thing I felt was lacking was a workdesk in the room. I can't say enough about the quality of personal attention there. I felt very well-taken care of.

Room Tip: Small and popular hotel, so book early.
