It is centraly located which can be good and bad. Good as in everything is in walking distance. All the souvenir shops, cafes, restaurants and the picturesque old harbour of Chania. Bad as in the night it can be noisy and you are woken up early, by churchbells and the shop owners who come to open their shops. If I didnt use my earplugs I would have had a hard time sleeping. The bedroom was spacious enough with a cute small balcony. On arrival the room was clean and tidy but after 3 days of staying there, it looked like Mrs Xenia only stepped into our room to throw out the rubbish from the toillet dustbin. Nothing else. We had to ask her to change the towels! In general this small hotel was untidy. In front of the public toilletes on the sinks it was filled up with with all sorts of clutter. Even plates and eating utensils!!! I would advise that you lock up your things in your suitcases when leaving your room, as one day we walked in on Mrs Xenia being in our room with 3 strangers, who as she told us where guests who wanted to see the bedrooms! Unacceptable!!! Overall... Dissapointing

The hotel is in a good location, the owner Mrs Xenia a pleasant lady, but she needs to clean and tidy the place up.

My husband and I stayed at the Diporto on a Friday night.
The location is very central, which was one important reason for picking this hotel. The reviews were also good, but I feel they are a bit misleading.

Our experience was not so good. When we arrived I noticed sand in the shower and in the sink in the bathroom. My husband brought this to the attention of the receptionist, who went to our room to give it a second cleaning. I was disappointed to still find sand in the sink, and the shelf under the mirror was also dirty and dusty. We gave up on getting it fixed, and didn't bother to change hotel for the sake of only one night - something which I regretted,

I was kept up to about 3 in the night by a live singer in a club in one of the neighbouring buildings. The windows did not do a good job at keeping the noise out - and my earplugs wasn't good enough help either. The next morning I woke up around 7am because of noise from the nearest street, as well as some construction work that was terribly noisy and made it impossible to fall back to sleep.

The room we had was on the first floor, and very small. The double bed does not provide space to get out on both sides of the bed in this room, but I believe it does in the other rooms. The free wifi worked in our room, but the signal strength was very low. The door does not keep any sounds out from the hallway, not the windows the sound of the motorcycles in the street.
The bathroom fan was also very noisy and went on automatically with the bathroom light.

So... the place has clean sheets, a good price, central location, and a very helpful and friendly receptionist. If you don't mind a lot of nightly noise (which travels easily through the windows as well as the hallway inside the building), the price is low if you can deal with some dust and dirt. If you need a quiet place and have cleanliness high on your list of priority, then this is not the place for you.

Room Tip: Request a room at a higher floor. More stairs, but less people will be passing your door (which you can hear very well).

I booked thru Hotels.com, and when I got there the man in the office said that he didn't know how that arrangement worked and we could figure the bill out in the morning. So if you are booking online take along your confirmation statement. the room was small, spartan but clean and the balcony while also small was a great place to sit out and enjoy a glass of wine.
The Location is fantastic. I would probably stay somewhere else nearby next time as there are many to choose from.

Room Tip: Top floor is best

great room, Xenia a very amenable and helpful hostess, quaint room in a converted and renovated Venetian house in Chania old town. Room very quiet. Shower not too good, only a trickle, but this may have been due to lack of water pressure because we were on the top floor. Previous reviewer, please note, most showers in Greece do not have curtains! Will stay here again
