We stayed in Villa Athina with a family of 5 with two teenagers and one 7 year old and we had a great time. The owners, Michail and his wife made sure your stay was being made very comfortable and the house was cleaned/refreshed twice a week. They are also continuously improving the house, so some of the pictures are not yet showing improvements (e.g. there is now a roof over the terrace on the first floor and the garden is much richer now)
The upper terrace is covered by a vine to provide shade and is a nice and comfortable place to sit and have meals and there are good terrace lights to sit there in the evening as well. The barbecue and pizza oven are there as well.
The villa lies on the top of a hill directly on a narrow road with another property immediately on the other side. This means that the car will need to be parked inside the grounds and there is an electric gate giving access to a car park space (for one car) For a big car it takes a bit of skill to park.
There is a small supermarket and there are 3 restaurants in Aptera. You could walk there, but the hill is quite steep, so we have only once got some supplies on foot, but thereafter always used the car.
The wifi in the house is excellent. There are two wifi networks, one especially for the pool, so you can still connect while lying on the sunbeds at the pool!
Because travelling around on Crete is not everywhere straightforward, we thought the location was conveniently close to the national road. So also very useful as a base for day trips.
