We recalled this place being recommended by our host after our initial restaurant told us it was going to be one hour wait on a Monday night at 9pm.

So glad we found it. It isn't connected to other touristy and crowded streets or rows and is slightly hidden behind the St Nicholas Monastery off of Daskaloggiani street.

What a gem. Generous portions at great price point. Good service and the food were filling and authentic. Potatoes in three cheeses, special fried cheese, BBQ pork and pork in Mizithra cheese were what we ordered. Every dish were on point.

The restaurant is located in a beautifully romantic courtyard. We ordered four dishes between the two of us, including a green salad which could easily have fed 10 and was covered in a sickly balsamic. The other dishes, which included smoked aubergine puree, were good.

But although the place was not terribly busy the service was painfully slow; they took 20 minutes to take our order and we were left staring at our plates for an hour after we'd finished whilst other tables were served, ate and were cleared. We kept having to flag the serving staff over if we wanted anything. Perhaps a bigger group would have had more luck.

You wouldn't know this place was here if you didn't look for it specifically, but it's most definitely worth the effort to do so. Set in an old aqueduct, it is out of the hustle and bustle of the busier tourist areas of Chania. It is adjacent to an old church which reminds you of its presence with the ringing of its bells. The menu offers more than the standard fare at the old port, including various mezedes (tapas), salads, and meat and fish. Meals were extremely tasty and very well priced, with a good selection of drinks. Hope to return soon.
