“August 2014”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 August 2014

We booked quite last minute for a July/August break, so not cheap. Lovely hotel, very quiet and clean. It was often hard to get service at the pool bar and in the restaurant, but once you had someone's attention they were very helpful.
We were all inclusive. Food was very good, lots of variety. Sandwich menu at the pool bar too which was quick and easy.
Pools are quite small for peak season with a full hotel, but normally managed to find a sun bed nearby.
Wifi was awful unless you went and sat next to the rooter by the main bar, but we didn't go on holiday to sit on the internet all day.
Room was spacious, light and always clean, they restocked the mini bar every day - soft drinks and beer for free.
Taxi to Elounda €7 and only a few minutes, but not much need to eat out there if all inclusive. Went there one evening for dinner and to get to the boat for Spinalonga.

Having spent a week here last year I had no hesitation in booking two weeks as soon as I returned so that I could more fully explore this part of Crete. This hotel is nothing short of amazing and very adult. There are a number of board options but for me the superior all inclusive in my opinion is the best. This gives you access to a massive range of all inclusive benefits and options and if you want something outside the AI options you can buy it at a reduced rate. There are a number of room options available here none of which would disappoint dependent on your budget. Wifi can be patchy but there is an internet corner just off the lobby bar with good wifi connection particularly at quieter times. The main buffet restaurant offers breakfast, lunch and dinner. The quality, choice and service is such that you would not be unhappy to eat here all the time but there are a range of special evenings in the two speciality restaurants which you can pre book just as you enter the main buffet restaurant. I recommend you do this at first opportunity as these evenings are popular and have limited numbers. There is an a la carte restaurant which serves lunch from 12.30 to 14:00 every day or the Beach bar which is open from 10am until midnight where you can get food from 10 until 4pm I think but drinks until midnight. The Greek night on Thursday is particularly popular. Make sure you're hungry and book in early to avoid disappointment. There is a good entertainment programme here which is varied over two weeks to avoid too much repetition. One main infinity pool with a couple of much smaller pools. A small beach and jetty type area. Here you will find boat trips, dive centre, jet skis plus range of bed options and the towel change area. Sun beds were not a problem but if you wanted a favourite spot just come down before breakfast which starts at 7:15 to enjoy the gentle heat and pop up for breakfast in the main buffet area a little later. I saw virtually no sunbed reservations other than on 2 occasions over my two week stay. Full breakfast is served in the buffet restaurant until 10:30 and then continental breakfast is offered. If you arrive to sunbathe a little later in the day and have difficulty in finding a bed which would be unusual then a word at the beach bar and the staff quickly sort you out. The spa is excellent with indoor pool, steam rooms/sauna and equipped gym. There is also a well equipped shop. Out and about this hotel sits between Elounda and Ag Nick, closer to Elounda. There is a local bus service which picks up literally at the hotel steps or taxi which is speedily arranged for you at reception and arrives in minutes. The fares are fixed so there are no nasty surprises and it's easy to find taxis for return from either location. Elounda has lovely restaurants and also a couple of little trains if you want to take a fun look at the surrounding area. Ag Nik is pretty with the usual tourist type shops. There are two full day trips which need special mention. Firstly the trip to Knossos and Heraklion. This is a mixture of Cretan history followed by around 4 hours free time in Heraklion for lunch and shopping - and for those of you that like shopping go armed with plenty of money as you could shop til you drop here and I don't just mean tourist shops. Late July early August - huge sale offers abound. The other is the jeep safari. If you do nothing else this is a marvellous day out where you get to see something of the real Crete and the guides are both hilarious and informative. Everyone that does this trip raves about it. Last but not least as part of this review I would like to convey to ALL the hotel staff the rep team and the entertainment team a huge thank you for an amazing holiday with memories to treasure

We have just returned from a smashing week at The Aquila Elounda Village Hotel.
What is there not to like?
The food is buffet style in the main restaurant, plenty of choice and very well prepared but if you prefer to be served, the Maribello restaurant awaits. What a fabulous way to have an excellent evening meal. You don't have to pay extra to enjoy this experience but can push the boat out IF YOU WANT to, its up to you.
The syposium is the alternative restaurant at the hotel, equally as good food but with a little less atmosphere, but hey, thats a matter of personal choice.
We arrived very late, yes there is an almost 2 hour transfer, a bit of a bore, not sure what could be done about that, maybe more coaches but we survived.
When we arrived at something like 1.30am(Not quite sure) we were taken to our rooms, bags delivered ASAP and in the room was a welcoming, very large snack of goodies, including a bottle of wine. (Wonder why someone complained earlier that they received nothing?)
Room was light, bright, clean and had everything we needed, including a well stocked fridge and a huge bed. Very quiet, no early morning cleaning ladies calling out, who said they did?
VERY friendly staff, all welcoming and nothing too much trouble, the management should be proud of the staff they have.
Someone mentioned the 'extra' price of cocktails not included in the 'All Inclusive' package. Although I agree that 'All Inclusive' should do what it says on the tin, it wasn't a problem for us. Vodka Martini's went down a treat as a pre dinner appetiser and the bar staff kept them coming! They were included !
Entertainment provided at the hotel was great. As you ate at the Maribello there was always live music in the background and an excellent job they all did.
Black and White Stripes was the name of the duo who entertained everyone in the main bar area and in the beach bar. What an accomplished pair they are, and what an extensive playlist they have. Fantastic guitarist in Danny and fabulous singering from Michelle, the pair of whom, could pick up any request from their audience and do the song justice. A tough job to do with so many different Nationalties to please but they manage to keep everyone happy.
Elounda is a half hour stroll away, for the reasonably fit, or take a cab for 7 euros, its cheap. It is a lovely place and this hotel, for the price, is a good way to see it.
And yes, we would certainly return.

My husband and I have been home a week now and still feel the relaxing effect of the hotel surroundings.
We had a bungalow room with a garden and limited sea view but this was just beautiful. We watched the sunset from our terrace, very private, while we enjoyed a pre-dinner drink.
The food is served buffet style in the main restaurant and is lovely, always something to take your fancy. The Marebella restaurant was my favourite as you chose your meal from the menu and had beautiful sea views.
The beach and pools are brilliant. ..plenty of sun beds so no need to rush. We always found somewhere to sit regardless of the time. Actually, we didn't sit in the same spot twice. The pool water is seawater, salty but refreshing with fantastic views from the infinity pool. The beach is lovely with a refreshing breeze and a beautiful cove feel...great for snorkeling and scuba diving.
The beach bar is great for drinks and snacks and the staff are friendly. I would recommend that the beach staff take orders from the sunbeds for all guests and not just a few!
All the hotel staff, reception, restaurants, bar, cleaning and garden, are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Charmaine in the hotel jewellers is great and will look after you while you browse or shop.
The hotel is clean, comfortable, spacoius, friendly and very quite. Great for unwinding and relaxing in the sun. You can walk to Elounda, through narrow roads but in the heat we found it easier to pay the €7 for the taxi or €3.2 for 2 by bus (which picks up/drops off outside the doors)
In Elounda there are some small shops but plenty of bars and restaurants. Had an amazing pistachio ice cream in the Venue cocktail bar. . Lovely friendly service too.
You can get a boat to Spinalonga there too, just €10 each and then €2 each entry and spend as long as you want there...just get the boat back when your ready. Spinalonga was very hot, no shade, and quite a trek in the heat but well worth a visit. Take plenty of water!
This was our 6th visit to Crete but first to Elounda. It isn't built up and spoilt, keeping tge traditional Greek feel. Everywhere was so relaxing and friendly...we just loved it here.
We would both definitely recommend Elounda and tge Aquila Elounda Village hotel if you want to kick back, unwind and relax but have a little something near by more adventurous.
Oh yeah, nearly forgot. ..it was our wedding anniversary so on our arrival tge hotel had champagne, wine, water, chocolates and nougat waiting for us with a card from management. Great touch.

It was our second visit to Crete. The first one was ten years ago, we were younger, poorer and less demanding. We stayed at three stars city hotel at Rethymno and were over the moon.
This summer we got a short break and decided to change our last years rule and move back to Crete (instead of Asia or Cyprus, our usual destinations) just to refresh our memories. We booked AI sea view suite bungalow for ten days at Aquila Elounda. Wow, we were Mythica guests at five stars hotel at Elounda resort! Sounds great, feels bad.
Some points:
1. The hotel is 70 km far from airport, the road took almost two hours with multiple stops, ours was the last. Consider taking an individual transfer.
2. The bungalow was good, the furniture was old, but the view was great. We could see the sea, we could hear the sea, we could smell the sea.
3. All Inclusive was a wrong choice. The food we liked was not included (not marked with In house sign) and vice versa. But we had 10% discount. Even most popular cocktailes like mojito are not free. Anyway I didn't like it.
4. Main restaurant is average, Symposium is good and Mirabello is great. But you have to book a place in advance,

sometimes two-three days ahead. You have to keep the bookings somewhere not to forget.
5. Staff is different, some part was extremelly friendly and professional, some part was just untrained. It is just strange when you meet face-to-face a waiter who served your table yesterday, tell him Hello and hear nothing back.
6. They have one single person who is a waiter at beach bar, beach towels boss and cleaner at the beach. You must be smart and fast enough to exchange your towels, most days we had to take used towels to our room and dry them there. Some days wind brought a lot of trash to the beach and nobody cleaned it for hours even when guests asked for it. It is the most disappointing part as the sea is really great, water is clear, extremely blue with a lot of fish.
7. You can take taxi to Elounda and to Agios Nikolaos. The prices are fixed and you can read them at reception. But there is no any good sidewalk here. We used to walk around the hotel area.
To say the truth, the place is good (and for good price), maybe the problem with our expectations. We just wanted more than we got.

Dear Guest,

We would like to thank you for your comments regarding your stay in our Hotel. We always welcome any criticism, in the process of making our Resort better. However, we would like to answer on your statement regarding Aquila Elounda Village.

It is quite unfortunate that your trip up to our Hotel has been so tiring; however, this is completely based on your Travel Agency. We are glad that you have enjoyed your stay and enjoyed your allocated room and our lovely a la carte Restaurants.

As in all a la carte Restaurants, all over the world, it is required to reserve in advance and due to our very high occupancy level, it is possible you needed to make your choice a couple of days prior. However, we would like to apologize for this inconvenience, but you could have consulted at any given moment our Guest Relations Department, which would have been more than willing to help either with reserving for you or with checking and managing them for you. As Mythica guests, you are entitled to a more personalized Guest Relations Service, which as we can see you have decided not to use to the fullest extent. Furthermore being in our Mythica status, you had the most extensive range of choices, in both of our a la carte restaurants, without any restrictions, on the top of your package.

We also appreciate that not everyone can be happy with one specific meal plan. This is the main reason why we offer different meal basis, one of which is our Premium All Inclusive package.

We are very sorry we did not meet your expectations; however we do hope that you will keep only the positive moments you have spent here with us and hopefully, decide to join us for yet another vacation trip.

Nevertheless, we would like to thank you once again for your comments and remarks.

Best regards,

I really don't want to write this review. This should be an excellent review, however this place has one key failing.

First the good stuff:

The pools and beaches are lovely (be prepared to fight for a lounger) with awesome views
The breakfast buffet is awesome and dinner is good too
The hotel restaurants are lovely, good food, lovely views
The local town has everything you need as well as some cheaper dinner/lunch options
The staff are fantastic - really friendly and welcoming

So the one key issue - the rooms. We had a garden room which we had was a bit tired (not the point you'd complain) but we neded up having to go and buy earplugs for. The housekeepers started loudly calling to each other (Maria was the one being called) from about 7:30am, the halls echo and any movement above you sounds like it's happening next to your ear. If you forget to put your DnD sign on you can expect housekeeping to knock from about 8:00am - not exactly what you go to 5* Greece for in my opinion!

We did ask to move however we could only be offered a room we expected would have similar issues.

So if you're a heavy sleeper or can afford the expensive rooms I highly recommend this place! Also for those travelling Thomson they don't advertise it's a 2hr transfer meaning you'll arrive at about 1:30am on your arrival day - we weren't aware meaning that we had to go for room service except the hotel had sold out of all savoury food bar one greek salad.

Room Tip: don't stay in the garden rooms!

Dear Guests,

We wish to express you our gratitude for selecting Aquila Elounda Village as your holiday destination and thank you for your positive commends in terms of the our pools & beach, our hotel personnel, food & restaurants as well as, our hotel in general.

Our well trained and always willing personnel makes countless efforts in order to satisfy the needs and expectations of each guest. The fact that the house keeping ladies made noise and you‘ve been disturbed, is something for us to look at and improvements-which we did. The fact that there is echo is an outside factor, which practically makes sounds increase inevitably. That is the reason why we keep reminding our personnel to be as careful and quite as possible. In any case we wholeheartedly regret that we did not reach your expectations in every aspect, even though our primary aim is a memorable stay without any hitch.

We stayed here for a week at the beginning of July, the food was wonderful and we could use the two a la carte restaurants as many times as you wanted as long as you had booked and you got the most fantastic views of the sunset. The rooms were spotlessly clean and the refrigerator (mini bar) was replenished daily as was the tea and coffee The entertainment was very good especially the black and white duo. We had booked a sea view room although we had a small view of the sea a second floor bungalow would give you a fantastic view. The journey from the airport was 2 hours as we were the last drop off and it would be quite nice if they could have a minibus just for this hotel as we were the first to be picked up on our return home at 5.20am.Overall it was a most relaxing and pampering holiday and I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Higher floor rooms have better views
