“Lovely Villa! Fabulous Owners”
Reviewed 25 August 2013

There are three villas under the Anemos umbrella, all are independent and private of each other.

We stayed in Avra which consists of a villa with a twin on the ground floor and a double with en-suite shower room and large balcony on the first floor. The villa has views of the sea, a large garden with very nice dining area and good sized pool with ladder steps.

Avra also has a separate two bedroomed apartment underneath the villa which has its own entrance with no view of the sea but has sliding glass doors to an outside seating area with table and chairs adjacent its entrance door. This apartment would be ideal for extended family or teenage family members, as they still have use of the pool, garden etc.

There is a car port for all villas which gives shade too. Anemos stands for winds in Greek and there can be a good breeze at this area of the island. Some days it was quite strong but laid on a sun bed didn't effect us! We just kept the pool inflatables/toys safe overnight and when we were out exploring.

It is located between Agios Nikolaos and Elounda, only 3 minute drive east of Elounda or 10 minutes west of Agios Nikolaos.

We booked this with George and he was charming, all communication by email, it almost seemed a shame not to meet him, however Despina was lovely, welcoming us with a glorious hot lemon chicken meal on our arrival evening with a large Greek salad. She came by a number of times in our fortnight stay dropping treats in for us. George arranged for somebody to meet us off the catamaran from Santorini - with our 206 car hire which was included in the villa rental - and we followed them to the villa instead of us trying to find it in the dark with instructions.

We were only disappointed to find that there was no BBQ as quoted on their website and we had to buy and build one on our second day so that we could enjoy outdoor cooking. The website also states there is a CD player with lots of CDs, there wasn't so that or an iPod speaker would be helpful. There is A/c in every room though the unit for the top floor bedroom isn't as efficient as the others. A lovely lady comes six days a week and there is a chap who tends to the pool and gardens but is gone early.

Elounda has a two small supermarkets in the square. Agios has a Carrefour and Lidl just off the outer ring road. There are a couple of bakeries located near the hospital in Agios which were very well stocked with delicious food. The street market in Elounda isn't worth going to on Friday and the Agios Nikoloas market on Wednesday is good to stock up on fruit and vegetables. We found the stall holders to be the most friendly in the whole of Europe!

We stayed in the smaller two bedroomed villa which was perfection. Top location and beautiful view of bay from every angle of the pool. Brilliant service with everything you need for a cool chill out week in the Cretan sun. Loved it and thanks to George and Despina..we will return for sure.

We returned from Villa Meltemi a week ago owned by George Aretakis and his lovely wife Despina. If you are looking for peace and quiet, wonderful views and more and total luxury go to their website - plora travel. A car is needed which George will organise for you through his company, first timers are met at the airport and escorted all the way to the villa - we are old timers now and just leave the airport, collect the car key and are on our way - fantastic. We travel around a lot to Greece/Spain/Italy et al and to be honest with you after our first visit working with George and experiencing their amazing villas we just cant keep away.

Not for people looking for chaotic nightlife, this is the joy of the Elounda/Agios area, seriousl chill out place. Wonderful restaurants - I will be writing a separate piece on some local restaurants, cafes we found this year and try and encourage people to buy from the local people in the hills.

Have a look - I just cant say anymore than how wonderful the villas are and the privacy and wonderful pool and the maid who transforms the villas back every day to how we found them!

Room Tip: These are a choice of three villas so ............ you choose your own room within your villa of cho...

We have just returned from our second visit to Anemos villas. This year we stayed in villa Notos. All the villas are beautiful, but Notos has the best views. The view really does take your breath away. Every morning it took me by surprise as i opened the blinds. The villas are immaculate. The welcome you receive from despoina is wonderful, as is the meal she has waiting for you on arrival. Crete and Elounda are wonderful, but we found it very hard to tear ourselves away from the pool and the wonderful views of the bay. The villa is decorated in a very modern minamalist style., the bedroom furnishings are gorgeous. The kitchen has everything you need if you feel the need to cook. We never did! A car is essential as the beach and tavernas are not in walking distance. Elounda is only a 5 min drive where there are an excellent array of restaurants. We tended to do a large shop for essentials in lidl which is in aghios nikalos. Very cheap! I cannot recommend these trio of villas enough. the view, the island, the hospitality we cant wait to go back. We ve found our own relaxing little corner of paradise!

Room Tip: Villa Notos has the best views and rooms, but Meltemi is equally beautiful

We stayed for one week at the end of June in Villa Notos and had a fantastic time. George and his wife Despina were very welcoming and incredibly helpful recommending restaurants, beaches and places to visit, nothing was too much trouble. We were met at the airport and then upon arrival at the villa we were greeted with a lovely home made meal, wine and water which was just what we needed after our journey. The villa itself was perfect with everything you needed and amazing views. Elounda is a great place to stay with plenty of tavernas and nearby things to do. We will definitely be recommending to our friends and hope to visit again soon.

We have recently returned from Villa Meltemi (owned by George Aretakis - www.eloundavillascrete.com) - our third visit. The villa was yet again perfect, clean, fresh, wonderful pool overlooking the Mirabello Bay - you cant wish for more. A car is needed but we are more than happy to drive backwards and forwards to this 'haven'. The villa is cleaned every day by a lovely lady, pool cleaned and there are many treats popped into the villa by George's beautiful wife - Despina.

This part of Crete is so beautiful and the people on Crete are so incredibly friendly and helpful we just cant wait to return.

By way of recommendation from our own experience (but frankly this area is just full of the most wonderful restaurants offering superb food at very reasonable prices) on this trip we would like to give 5 out of 5 to the following:

Christofyllis - Akti Pagalou - Agios Nikolaos - they offer an unbelievable list of meze to chose from - dont be fooled into thinking four of you will need 12 x plates - the portions are very generous and just delicious and the prices are very reasonable and the waiting staff are incredibly helpful and friendly.

Maria's in Plaka - one of the earliest restaurants in this very special village opposite Spinalonga (once a leper colony) - Victoria Hislop wrote her wonderful book with the story of the Island. I digress - we had THE most wonderful meal here - proper Greek food beautifully cooked, Greek music (a must for me!!) very reasonable - fish, lamb, calamari, just wanted to put it in my suitcase and bring it home.

Thalassa Restaurant, again Plaka - they have just opened recently - great fun, right on the sea front, full of fun and colour and a wonderful menu.

We also has a very nice meal in Poulis in Elounda which juts out to the sea - big menu which sometimes make us nervous, needless to say my lamb Sharma I think it was called was fantastic, my cousin loved her moussaka, and the other two were very happy as well!!

Oh yes - and you have to visit the Bakery off the main street into Elounda up a little side road - her baklava is the best on the planet, bread amazing and I always fill the freezer with a selection of their little ice cream lollies on sticks from pistaschio/caramel/strawberry/nut - and so the flavours continue.

Please go there - it is just a wonderful place to visit and stay and you will be made more than welcome.

Book now - the weather is always fantastic in this area.

Room Tip: This is a villa so I cant recomment any particular rooms!!

We stayed in this villa at the end of September 2009. We travelled through Plora Travel (George Aretakis - owner of company and villas with his beautiful wife Despina). www.eloudavillascrete.com or [--].

We were met at the airport and taken to our hire car and then followed him all the way to the villa (good hours drive but well worth it!!) - wonderful service!

On arrival we walked into the entrance to be greeted by the smell of lemon chicken wafting through the kitchen, we were really hungry and this was great to find, along with wine and various other bits in the fridge. We unpacked and settled in and Despina arrived with maps and full of fantastic local knowledge, restaurant ideas, where to go etc - her cousin has a gt taverna on the sea overlooking Spinalonga and the food was to a good standard and lovely waiters.

The villa itself was absolutely perfect for myself and my husband and 20 year old son. We slept upstairs with large bedroom, ensuite shower room and HUGE balcony overlooking the sea. Our son slept in an equally nice double room downstairs with full windows onto the terrace with chairs and table resting by the sky blue swimming pool (complete with shower) - his bathroom was great as well. They provided lovely fluffy white towels, gowns, pool towels, delicious soaps, shower jell etc (Korres - one of my favourite brands!!).

The outside of the villa was for this villa (grass areas with the other 2 villas) was around the pool area with a covered area with tables and chairs and BBQ (make sure you check this is clean before you start cooking - our new neighbours nearly set fire to a tree when they lit theirs because off all the unwashed fat on it!!).

Fatima, the maid, came every day to clean and did a superb job and she came in with various Greek delicacies as the week progressed and was always happy and smiling and very helpful (even with my minimal knowledge of Greek!!).

So, yes - I would absolutely recommend this villa or one of the two either side, which looked equally as inviting. You do need a car. We ventured to Plaka and Elounda for meals out, Agios for more action!! oh! and for self catering their is a Lidl in Agios, which saved us a lot of money on supermarket shopping.

After some more adventures this year we hope to return there one day.
