“Fantastic location, brilliant accomodation and great service.”
Reviewed 19 June 2014 for a stay in June 2014

I stayed in this lovely villa with 5 friends. Everything was lovely. The outside pool area is secluded and very well maintained and the villa is well maintained. The bedrooms are light, airy and spacious. The little extra touches of a cooked meal on the first evening and the little treats from Debbie during the week made our fantastic holiday even more special.

“Picture perfect and peaceful Cretan escape”
Reviewed 8 May 2014 for a stay in April 2014

Where do we start about Villa Anemos. A gem of a villa, perfect for a family/friends getaway, away from the hustle & bustle but within easy reach of Elounda town and the beautiful village of Plaka a few kilometres further by car. We wanted an escape, somewhere we could relax and do very little in beautiful surroundings and this villa didn't disappoint (we were all blown away by how lovely it was). We booked via Trip Advisor, and dealt directly with the owner George who was charming and more than helpful in advising on various arrangements including car hire (he also happens to own a car rental company) and local golf clubs. George also sent us some Crete guides and maps once we'd made our booking. We booked our car through George and this meant our arrival in Crete couldn't have been easier. There was a Driver waiting for us at the airport who we followed back to the villa (took about 50 mins). As we arrived at 11pm at night, this was extremely helpful. I suspect we'd have had fun finding the place had we been doing it alone with directions. As we arrived at the villa, we were greeted by George's wife, Despina, who had waited for us until after midnight and was very welcoming and friendly (she had prepared us a lovely home cooked meal of chicken, potatoes and Greek salad, absolutely delicious). Despina actually popped in a couple of times during our stay, bringing us homemade greek delicacies (stuffed vine leaves one afternoon and a delicious dessert on our final day). The villa was contemporary, clean and the facilities were almost faultless (I'd say the only exceptions were the sofa in the main villa which was pretty uncomfortable and the lack of entertainment. There was no CD player or ipod dock so we relied on our own speakers and phone to play music. It would also be worthwhile having a small selection of DVD's/music and perhaps a few games to keep the kids occupied when having a break from the sun. The views from both inside (especially the master bedroom upstairs) and outside are stunning. There's loads of outdoor space, beautiful landscaped gardens and a large grassed area perfect for ball games. The amount of outdoor space meant that with a group of 8 you never felt like you were on top of one another. The pool was not heated and as it was the beginning of the season and not baking hot, the water didn't warm up much during the day (Fine once you were in though!) Shouldn't imagine this is a problem in the peak months either. The pool is all the same depth, no shallow end so kids who can't swim need to be supervised (there are some ladder steps into the pool). 2 of the 4 bedrooms are in the guesthouse downstairs which is a separate apartment to the main villa, accessed through its own entrance (has its own kitchen, lounge and shower room). The guest house is lovely but as it's in the basement it's not particularly light (although saying that we only really went down to sleep and shower so this wasn't a problem). One thing to consider if you have young children in your party is that you would not want them sleeping in the guest house alone. This wasn't a problem for us as we had 3 adults and a child down there but it could be an issue. You really need at least one adult downstairs with the kids. The villa is down a short sloping drive away from the road so noise is not an issue, unless the sound of birds and cockerels offends you. We had a problem with the air conditioning in the master bedroom. Thankfully Despina popped in on our 2nd day and had someone out to sort it that afternoon. A cleaner comes 6 days a week, ensuring the villa is immaculate for the entire stay. There's also a guy who comes and cleans the pool early in the morning, who you may not see depending on what time you surface. You can walk into Elounda which takes around 20 minutes, be warned though, it's downhill into town but its very much uphill to get home. Most evenings we drove down for dinner, left the car and got a taxi back up (6 Euros) and would walk down and get the car next day. Some evenings we stayed at the villa and barbequed. There was a gas BBQ provided and the undercover seating area was perfect. There are excellent butchers and greengrocers in town where we were able to buy everything we needed. In fact, Elounda has everything you could need food wise. Small supermarket (called Discount Market I think), bakery for fresh bread and local sweet delicacies. Around the waterfront there are lots of tavernas/bars and we had good food and service wherever we went. There is a great bar in Elounda called Babell. Apart from showing the football which was a big plus for some of our party, it also had a lovely interior, great service and a decent cheese toasty! For kids there is a very nice public park by the beach in Elounda, this was a big hit and we visited a few times when down in town. The beach is lovely (slightly shingly) but more than suitable for kids to play and water shallow and clean. Plaka is definitely worth a visit, very pretty little village. Looks out to the island of Spinalonga and has some gorgeous shops and tavernas where you can eat and take in the view of the Island. Plaka is about 5km on from Elounda. Would say you definitely need a car if staying at Anemos Villas, particularly if you've got young kids as the walk to Elounda would be too much. Overall I'd say this was the perfect holiday destination for a quiet family break (it's not a beach holiday and is not for you if you want everything in short walking distance). We particularly wanted to be away from the hustle and bustle of a large complex/resort but have access to a town and facilities when we wanted them. If you have a car you can do as much or as little as you like. Would definitely recommend to groups of family/friends. In addition to Avra (4 bed) there is an additional 3 bed villa and a 2 bed villa so could be ideal for larger or smaller groups too. For families with toddler/s, I would think twice as there is no child's pool and quite a few steps so as parents of a toddler you are likely to be constantly on the move and you may not find this villa the most relaxing place to stay. If you are staying with young children, consider asking for a stair gate as the steps up to the master bedroom are tiled and steep and you wouldn't want a crawler trying to negotiate them alone!! It's not often we go back to the same place twice but we're definitely going back to Elounda and Anemos next year. Thanks George and Despina for a wonderful holiday experience, we hope to see you soon!!

“Great Stay”
Reviewed 3 July 2013 for a stay in October 2012

We stayed at Anemos Villa for 7 nights in Oct. 2012 with my wife and 2 daughters. The villa is well maintained and the view is amazing. Geaorge and Despina the owners are very hospitable. They treat you like a guest at their home, which is much appreciated. The homemade cooking and sweats that Despina prepared for us was very thoughtful and a nice touch. I would stay there again if I'm back to Elounda one day.

“One of the nicest places to enjoy your morning coffee”
Reviewed 31 December 2012 for a stay in October 2012

The drive from the airport to Elounda has now been vastly improved with the opening of the newly completed Malia bypass.
Tip, just remember Crete has a very enthusiastic police force who (periodically) stringently enforce the speed restrictions, aided by static speed cameras which are not as easy to spot as those in the UK and can easily catch out unsuspecting tourists who are driving a strange car on unfamiliar roads.

Over the years we have taken a lot of villa holidays and after booking each villa we have spent the run up to the holiday worrying about exactly what we would find on arrival at our chosen destination. With this villa we need not have been worried even for one second, it was just as good as we had been led to expect, in fact it was even better.

Parking at the villa was easy and on arrival we were met by Despoina, one of the owners. Despoina showed us round the villa, then we were left to enjoy the most delicious meal which had been especially prepared for our arrival.
Tip, make sure you are hungry enough to really enjoy the meal.

The bathrooms are stocked with lovely toiletries, while the bedrooms have plenty of bedding, pillows and very comfortable beds.
Tip, the stairs up to the third bedroom are fairly steep, so send the fittest people in the party up there or stay sober!

The kitchen has everything you should need, except possibly a pair of scissors.
Catering for meals at the villa was easy, there are plenty of shops in Elounda and there is a Lidl just outside Agios Nikolaos if you feel the need for a more familiar shopping experience.
Tip, Lidl in Greece sells slightly different things to those found in the UK. The bread is local bread and you won't find even one tub of coleslaw in the chiller cabinets.

Eating out in Elounda is not a problem as there are plenty of places to chose from, our favourite was the Thea Resaurant, it was easy to reach, being right on the main road running from the villa into Elounda village and the prices were better than the restaurants around the harbour area.
Tip, driving through Elounda village can be a bit hairy at times so you may prefer to eat somewhere that does not involve driving through the village twice at night.
Second tip, if you go to the Thea, try the chocolate cake.

We wanted a relaxing holiday and as the views from the villa are simply amazing we spent hours just sitting watching out across the bay, sometimes with a cup of coffee, sometimes with a glass of wine.

Was there anything negative about the holiday?
Not really, but we didn't want to leave, does that count?

“Amazing Villa”
Reviewed 20 August 2012 for a stay in June 2012

We stayed for a week in June 2012. The booking process was straight forward and the owner George was so helpful throughout, especially the package of information on the area that he sent to me by mail just after booking.
Our package included car hire, arrival could not have been easier. We met Mike easily at the airport and followed him back to the villa in the hire car. On arrival we were blown away by the amazing view and the sheer luxury of the villa. The pictures we had been sent had not done it justice! We could not fault the villa, everything we needed was available for our party of 4 adults and one child… in fact it was difficult for us to go out and explore as we loved hanging out at the villa so much! Free wi-if was a real bonus.
The delicious welcome meal and daily treats delivered by Despoina were much appreciated, as was both the local information provided in advance and Despoinas advice once we were there.
Would love to return.
We look forward to visiting again sometime.

“Fantastic !!!!”
Reviewed 5 August 2012 for a stay in July 2012

Absolutely fantastic villa!!!

When we arrived at the villa, we were greeted by Joanna the owners lovely daughter, a weclome meal of roast chicken, greek salad, tzatziki, pitta, wine, water and fresh peaches what a lovely touch. Despina popped around several times with local greek specialities, delicious! Nothing was too much trouble and she was always on hand to give some wonderful restaurant recommendations( try Kanali over the causway- heaven).

The villa, garden and pool were glorious. We will definately be back, perhaps to rent all 3 villas out with family and friends next year.

Thank you George, Despina and family you are great ambassadors for your lovely country - we will be back!!!

“Elounda's best kept secret”
Reviewed 4 July 2012 for a stay in June 2012

George and Despina were extremely hospitable and accommodating. For starters, they arranged to have our rental car delivered to the airport for us at 1:30 am and provided a guide for us back to the villa. Despina and her daughter Ioannis greeted us with a delicious welcome meal. On several occasions she titillated our palates with local baked items. She is also a plethora of information as far as where to go, what to do and must hit restaurants. The villa was ideal for families. We all enjoyed swimming and relaxing poolside, as well as dining al fresco. A visit to the Six Senses Spa is a must! We had a mishap and had to go to the ER. Despina and Ioannis met us at the hospital to translate and provide assistance. They went above and beyond to ensure that we had a good time. We look forward to returning and wouldn't consider staying anywhere else.
