“A feeling like you are now engulfed in peace”
Reviewed 8 July 2014

This sounds quirky, but as soon as we got out of the car, after driving from Chania and stopping at Knossos, we felt peace. Louise greeted us in a warm and welcoming style. She made our daughter instantly feel welcomed, but letting her know that the pool was awaiting her arrival. She had us escorted to our suite and was waiting there upon our arrival. We then strolled to the pool and bar to have a relaxing cocktail.
The décor is superb. There were many pieces of furniture that I would have liked to purchase; modern rooms mixed with antiques.
A private beach that you were driven to with a private taxi.
Anna and her daughter, the Inn Keepers, were so gracious and accommodating.
Dinner on the higher terrace was romantic, even with our 10 year old along.
We would definitely return to this hotel. Small, beautiful and very accommodating.
We were leaving very early on our last day in order to drive to Heraklion to catch our ferry to Paros. Louise made sure that there was a wake-up call and a butler to deliver piping hot coffee and fresh squeezed OJ. The rest of the breakfast was brought over the evening before and was placed in the refrigerator for our early morning wake-up and departure.

Everything that was arranged was arranged with a no fuss type of demeanor making one feel like they were very special and just simply deserved this superb treatment. Something like, "why drive to the private beach when I can simply call for a taxi to take you there whenever you are ready. When you are ready to return, just let Maria know to telephone a taxi back." This was arranged by Maria, who was at the reception desk.
While talking with Maria, we commented that it was a hot day and she immediately turned on the A/C. We were quite comfortable with the temperature, but she thought we wanted it cooler.

The morning breakfast buffet was prepared and presented quite eliguently.

You will not be disappointed. We had a garden suite; although not with a private pool or seaview, we were not disappointed.

We spent a lovely week in one of the senior suites. We arrived very late in the evening and a cold buffet with wine had kindly been left in our room. We were greeted by the security guard who took us to our room, but did not speak English so explanation in respect of the room facilities was limited. The room was huge and very comfortable. The room however was not perfect given that this is a 5 star deluxe property. Paint chipped and areas a little worn in places. Through out our visit we never met the owner or had anyone come and see if the room was fine. The staff however in the restaurant, around the pool, in the bar and reception were fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble. The buffet breakfast is available until 11.00am each day (beware the in house room directory says 11.30am) which is wonderful if you want a lie in. The choice is superb and if there is something specific you want they will make it for you, like the omelettes which I highly recommend. We only ate dinner at the hotel once and the food was very good but expensive. The same calibre of food and service is available a taxi ride away in Elounda for half the price. There is also some confusion about which is what restaurant, they have Argo which at dinner seems to be for those on half board, and then the taverna which seems to sit alongside the Argo guests and then Daphne's fine dining which appears to be on a balcony upstairs. The lady making cocktails behind the bar is knowledgeable and a delight to chat with but the prices are high. A very small glass of local wine for example is 8 euros and an Aperol Spritz is 12 euros. Nice touches were evident such as cold melon being served mid afternoon around the pool. All in all we felt very comfortable at this property and were treated well during our stay.

We've stayed in some fantastic places around the world and from a site and reception perspective this is one of the good ones. HOWEVER, when management could and should have made decisions in a more guest friendly way when called upon, the proof was not in the pudding, as they say. During the first of our three night stay the electrical power to our very pricey unit failed at 11:30 p.m. The air conditioning, phone, lights and emergency lights all failed. Our over the top unit, Knossos, was furthest from reception and dining area on this very hilly property and closest to the highway...for point of reference. Therefore I had to trudge all over the property to find help from a security guard who happened to be in the dining area. The reception office was closed at 11:30. He drove me back to our unit, removed a painting from the wall and flipped a breaker switch. Some other things, which may seem petty, but add up when you're paying these extravagant rates: 1) Bottled water is free, coffee from the in house coffee maker is not. 2) Breakfast begins at 8:30 a.m. which is rather late if you are ready to explore the island. 3) The on campus dining is not remarkable in any way, again, relative to the half board rate. 4) The room safe is hardly safe, since it is lightweight, not fastened to anything, and can be easily transported anywhere. 5) The margins on the TV screen (during the World Cup) cut off the scoring information and could not be fixed. 6) There was algae on the steps of our not so private pool. When we checked out I asked for a concession for our first night's electrical debacle. The owner, Anna, after much ado on the phone, credited our bill for less than 10% of one night's lodging. In fairness, we expected more since the reception staff had been so thorough, helpful and friendly. Here's my perspective, the property was developed before the big recession, around 2005. Our two level room was full of costly gym equipment which had hardly been touched. There has since been a re-investment in young (internish) friendly, welcoming staff but not much else. The things that count, like food services and a management response that are befitting of the price you're paying are lacking. The financial pressure is palpable. Enough said.

Dear Guest,

We regret that your stay in our boutique Villa-Hotel was not up to your expectations. We apologize for any incovenience caused during the electrical power failure. This was indeed out of our control but as you also mentioned, it was fixed by the night guard. We are sorry to know that the opening of our buffet breakfast at 8:30 was quite late for you. If we had known this during your stay we would have offered you breakfast privately in your Villa anytime from 5:30. We thank you for your positive comments on our site and our reception staff. Comments on the staff being helpful and friendly have been passed on to them.

Kind regards from Crete,

Our first stay here 2 years ago was fantastic and our second was even better. We took a villa with a private pool with amazing views across the bay - superb. The villa was excellent and their restaurant superb with an a la carte menu to die for. The chef here is amazing and on a par with most Michelin chefs and has some stunning dishes. The staff are all very attentive and professional and we were looked after extremely well.

A great way to spend a week away from it all !

Our room was one of the nicest we've ever stayed in. We were traveling with our daughter and her rollaway was already in the room when we arrived in the evening. The concierge staff were very helpful and friendly--their restaurant recommendations were perfect (thanks Ria and Louise). The owner made a point of meeting us our first night. And they have a lovely staffed private beach a short drive away.

Just back from a wonderful week in Elounda Gulf Villas. This is a very special place, run in great style by Anna, her family and staff who really care about their customers' experience.

Our 2 bedroom villa (shared by 2 couples) was beautifully decorated, very well equipped, and spotlessly maintained. Spent many enjoyable hours reading in the sun, lounging on our private terrace and swimming in our good sized villa pool. Very comfortable beds with top quality linen ensured a very luxurious night's sleep.

Half-board dining option offered plenty of variety - the 3 course menu changed daily in Argos restaurant - a supplement got you fine dining in Dafni - and you could switch between lunch or dinner. The food itself was delicious - local specialties, fresh seafood, wonderful salads and decadent desserts. The breakfast buffet was superb, abundant with fresh fruit, juices, breads, pastries, meats, cheeses and eggs cooked to order.

The whole resort is very stylish - each villa has it's own character - the bar, restaurants and main pool areas are a masterclass in relaxed elegance. The private beach is small but perfectly formed! The gardens are lush and colorful and the views are spectacular.

Elounda Gulf Villas is perfectly situated for those who wish to explore the island and the staff are really excellent at making recommendations tailored to your interests.

Great care and attention to detail make this a fantastic place to be, but it is the hospitality, professionalism and warmth of all of the staff that really makes it a really stand out destination.

Thank you to Anna and all of the wonderful team at Elounda Gulf Villas.

We have just had yet again another fabulous holiday at the superb Elounda Gulf Villas. We were lucky enough to stay in the lovely Villa Areti which is fitted out very well and has everything you could possibly need (even a washing machine!) The villa is very private and has Fantastic Views looking out over the very blue waters of Mirabella Bay. At Elounda Gulf, the ENTIRE STAFF go out of their way to make your stay as memorable as possible, to say nothing is too much trouble is definitely an understatement! They are the most helpful and friendly people we have ever had the privilege to meet! The food is first class with chefs that will literally cater to your every need! The Family Owners have definitely thought of everything and have spared no expense in making EGV&S a holiday destination that stands out from the rest. We highly recommend a visit and are sure you will not be disappointed! We definitely hope to return.

Stan and Alice. West Sussex.

Most Definitely a Holiday to Remember!

Room Tip: It doesn't matter where you stay as the entire site is superb!
