Just the right size, wonderful little beach below, excellent service. Located in a quiet spot a short distance from town.
Nicest staff, always willing to help.
We stayed at the Maisonette room which has two floors with balconies, beautiful view from the second floor balcony.

Room Tip: 301 Maisonette was very nice but entry is right next to the dining room kitchen back door

I've been to a few resorts on different Greek islands and this was by far the best hotel and area I have stayed in. I went with my my mum and two sisters, and it was perfect place to stay for all of us! Mainly this was down to the location; proximity to the hotel beach was amazing (at the foot of the hotel and very beautiful) and the centre of Elounda was a twenty-minute walk or a 5euro cab journey. Plaka in the other direction was a quieter and beautiful spot - a must!
The hotel was very clean, the two pools were great, and the breakfast was lovely with lots of choice. The staff were really welcoming, friendly and always on hand to help - Eleni, Dina and Hristina on reception gave great recommendations of where to eat, how to get to places etc. Yiannis, Manolis and Eddie at the bar always had a smile and were really good fun. Yiannis does a great mojito! We went on a boat trip with the hotel to see Spinalonga and the food was lovely with some Greek dancing thrown in.
If you want to relax, have a bit of fun, and sample Greek culture in comfort, book this hotel - I will be returning!

Room Tip: Pick a room with a sea view.

We've been traveling around the Greek Islands for 3 weeks now and often we were pleasantly surprised about the hotels and the amount of service and dedication we encountered for reasonably low prices. When I booked the Selena Hotel in Elounda, I expected the price was higher than the other hotels I had booked because we were talking about a resort here. It boasts to have 2 pools, a tenniscourt, a fitness room, a private beach, etc. Also, when you look at the photos on the website it seems to be a very nice hotel....until you actually arrive.
First of all, the little town Elounda is said to be a lovely holiday destination, far from the touristy Chersonissos crowds, etc. In reality it is a small town, the hills around are dotted with all -inclusive resorts of varying luxury, the town itself: nothing to do, no restaurants that discern itself from the rest, all tourist menus in at least 4 languages. No shops of any interest. The toprated Tripadvisor restaurants are still very mediocre, they are the best of nothing so don't get your expectation up, then you're OK. Packed with tourists, primarily British, the Russians tend to stay in their all-inclusive resorts. Further along is quiet Plaka, which has far more character by the way.
The Selena hotel objectively does have all the mentioned facilities, but it simply is not what you expect. Let's say the pictures on the website are picture perfect and in reality it is much less. The beach is tiny and you hear the cars roaring on the road right behind you, fitness room: well, it does contain 3 fitness appliances, pools are OK.
Our first night we were shown to our room (127) which lies right above the pool and near the restaurant and bar (noisy) and had a plumbing problem. This is no fault of the hotel, unfortunately many tourists don't take the signs that are displayed in every hotel bathroom seriously and keep on throwing their toiletpaper in the toilets. The pipes are narrow and obstruction ensues, causing all kinds of nasty side effects such as a horrific smell.
Luckily the staff really did want to help and showed us to another, better room (317).
Still, the hotel is slightly rundown and is not up to par considering the prices you pay.
It is located quite a long way from Elounda, so either you walk 20 minutes for dinner or you rent a car.
Then breakfast (which was included): I am really sorry, but it was just not what one would expect. Greasy eggs, scary sausages, the preserves ( if one could call it that) thrown into large containers in which everybody dipped their spoons to get some. Coffee ? dreadful, "juice" from a machine ok, but not more than that. I just don't understand; just by using basic quality products it is easy to present a tasty, enticing ( relatively) cheap breakfast buffet . It isn't that difficult! But this shows a lack of interest in your guests as far as I am concerned; on the other hand, maybe some people will just eat anything. I hate to think what the dinner buffet looked/tasted like.
Room was ok, nice balcony with ditto view, bed was good. Staff is friendly and helpful.

Finally, the place was crowded with Russians. Really probably 90%. I felt like I was in somekind of Russian holiday retreat. No problem by the way, but it made us feel a little out of place, that's all.
In a nutshell, stay a maximum of 2 nights, then move on, longer will drive crazy of boredom or due to the lack of a decent meal.

My partner and I stayed here for 14 days and it was a little quiet haven away from the hustle and bustle. Situated in between Elounda and Plaka (about a 20-25 min walk to Elounda along the promenade), it had a beautiful pool, access to a quiet beach, and the nicest hotel staff I have ever come across.

Quite a lot of Eastern European clientele; some, more than others, were up for a chat. The ice was well and truly broken after the Selena mini cruise, which was a MASSIVE highlight of our time in Crete; the people we met, the amazing views, greek dancing and seafood meze were FABULOUS. Well worth the 45 Euros, and friends we made on this day continued through our time in Crete. If you get a chance - DO IT!

There was an initial miscommunication about rooms, which resulted in an upgrade as soon as possible - even in high season!

After we became acclimatised to the lifestyle, reception staff (Hrstina, Elina, and Dina) greeted us warmly each day, the management (Frank and Mirek) were beyond helpful to us, general staff (including the fabulous Manos, Costa, Eddie, Alina and the beach attendant - forgot his name!!! whoops) were friendly, sweet and always up for a chat and a laugh... A big and especially warm THANK YOU to Yiannis, the bar manager, who looked after us amazingly well, introducing us to local food, restaurants and drinks.

Definitely would return here, without a doubt...

Thanks to everyone at Selena... See you soon!

.....Raki for everyone!....

Choosing Kreta for our summer vacation was an easy choice, but deciding on the resort we would be booking wasn’t. There is a selection of 3-4 hotels that really look stunning. I must say that I can’t imagine them being more beautiful and relaxing than Selena Hotel Elounda! We booked normal standard room which was perfect in every sense. The room was a good size with a terrace over an amazing full of flowers garden! The hotel’s customer service, gym, Bar and restaurants were excellent… This is the kind of place you go to relax, move around as little as possible and enjoy picture perfect view of Spinalonga!!! Strongly recommended! Absolutely loved the location in Elounda, the fifteen minutes walk to Elounda's village, where we had some of the most beautiful local food. The layout of the Hotel was truly amazing and the buffet variety at the restaurant. was excellent. Breakfast was also great. Staff were so accommodating & helpful in every way, from checking in to housemaids this is certainly a 4star experience and would recommend it to anyone wanting a truly nice quite vacation experience.

We stayed in Selena Hotel during July 2013. We booked a standard room through expedia. We had a warm welcome at our really very late arrival 2am. The man in the reception help us with our luggage's. Our room was on the top of the hill, was clean and spacious with direct view of Spinalonga fortress island. Selena Hotel its a cozy resort and easy to get around. The pool and beach area is very nicely maintained and there are lots of sun beds to choose. The lady from the reception arrange a water taxi service to Spinalonga which is definitely worth visiting. Breakfast was excellent with lots of choice. The staff at that restaurant were fabulous, so helpful and friendly and accommodating of everything we wanted. Selena is just 2km from Elounda and almost the same distance from the small village of Plaka, so it is easy to eat out if you want to. Would definitely recommend this resort for relaxing holidays, we had a wonderful time.

I stayed in Selena on July this year and i have to say that i was expecting a higher value of services for such a high cost per night! Rooms are far below what advertized, room view doesn't really exist, dirty bathroom with rotten plumping... In few words such room shouldnt cost more than 50euros/night. The interior needs desperately renovation. Also, one day i heard the cleaning lady talking on the phone with Mrs Christina (manager of the hotel) who was telling her to change only the towels only in the cases where it was really necessary because they didn't have enough!!! Last but not least, if you read the rest negative reviews in tripadvisor, you may note the totally impolite way with which Hotel Management replies. This is not what one would call "professional response".

Selena Hotel E, Υπεύθυνος Σχέσεων με Πελάτες at Selena Village, responded to this reviewResponded 15 August 2013

Dear quest,
all reviews by our guests are welcome, even those that are intended, to create the impression that the hotel, is by far below the expectations of a visitor during his booking.
You honestly know how much of your review obviously is not true.
You stayed in a two room studio with two terraces and a balcony.
The large terrace of the studio bedroom of yours, has unobstructed views of the bay of Elounda and Spinalonga, from the other terrace and balcony of your bedroom the view is also unique to the sea and the round pool.
The photos you posted show quite good the way you used the room offered to you.
You can very easily realize that the reviews of all our visitors disagrees with yours.
However we respect your opinion and review who gives us the opportunity to try even more to meet the expectations , especially of our Greek visitors.
