This hotel is ideally located a 5 min walk into the centre of Elounda and at the start of the causeway across to the windmills. Most staff are very friendly, especially on reception, the waitress and in the Sky Bar. Most rooms have a view of the sea but some are facing the wall of a neighbouring hotel. To avoid a poor view, ask for a hotel on the south side as this avoids the wall of the neighbouring hotel which is on the north side (Elounda side). From our experience, we know that rooms 209, 210, 309, 310 which are all on the north side do have good views across Elounda and towards Spinslonga. We stayed half board and the food was varied and very good. We had been concerned by previous reviews but we found the half board meals to be of a high standard; a mixture of hot meals (meat, fish, veg and cold salads) and the menu changed every night. The arrangement whereby half board guests can only eat in the restaurant and not across the road by the sea is a bit draconian and not in keeping with a hotel of a high standard. We saw them quite forcefully sending some guests back inside who had strayed towards the door with their food. A better arrangement would be to allow half board guests to take their food over to the Blue Sea Restaurant between 7.30 and 9 and then reserve for a la carte for later guests. Hotel is very clean with bright decor. Drink prices are standard for the area (e.g. €3 for glass of wine / large beer). Breakfast variety is excellent. Air conditioning is an extra charge of €6 per day which we felt for a higher standard hotel should be included. The room safe is also charged at a daily rate. Nice small beach across the road and the roof pool is very pleasant but a little tight on space. Car park nearby has capacity for most if not all cars. Would definitely recommend this hotel to others and would return in the future,

Room Tip: Specify 'sea view' and avoid central rooms on the north side as these face the wall of a hot...

Good points......Firstly the location is really good just out of the town, 10 mins or so walk past some fantastic sea side restaurants. Right on the pebble beach. Sky Bar is really good especially Monique!

Not so good points :-
1. Rooms so tiny you have to walk sideways past the end of the bed and the wall to get to the other side of the bed. (we immediately tried to upgrade......2 staff told us different things....1 might be able to but didn't seem to happy that we had actually asked, then decided no, 2 - no full until Sept.....gave up on that one
2. Balcony just big enough to get a very very small table and 2 chairs and nothing else, cant really sit out on it!! probs a meter square
3. Shower rubbish wouldnt hold up and dribbled out
4. Worst was not getting air con as standard!!! - had to pay an extra 6 euros a night for that so at the end of the holiday was landed with a bill for 112 euros for the air con and a safe! It was way too hot to NOT have air con
5. The pool although fantastic view from the top, in the 2 weeks we were there only managed to get 2 sunbeds 3 times !!! There is a sign from the management saying 'You cannot reserve sunbeds towels will be removed'.......unfortunately the management did not adhere to this rule...on many occasion we went to the pool......towels on the sunbeds.....no people either on them or in the bar!!! On a number of occasions I witnessed a family of 3 put their towels on the sunbeds in the morning then walk in to town!! In the end we went to the bar along the road where there were sunbeds and used their bar. I am sure the sky bar at the hotel would have benefited a lot more if the guests were actually at the pool and not in town and their towels back on the sunbeds. If the management adhered to the rule, the sunbeds would have had people on (not just towels) and would have taken money at the bar.
6. Private pebble beach over the road - same problem - sunbed reserving......gave up trying to get one there too....went to the bar along the road or the public beach.
7. Breakfast - finishes at 9.30am - we found this too early to finish....its the first hotel I have been to where breakfast finished so early.
8. When we got the pool side the pool is lovely, 1.8m all the way round so not good for kids as there isnt a shallow end - but to be fair this hotel is really geared towards adults

We booked this hotel from the reviews on trip advisor, wont always rely on them in the future, will do more digging.

Will definitely go back to Elounda but not to Akti Alous.

Room Tip: be very careful there are some rooms that have 'room' in them and a balcony that you can act...

Stayed at the Akti Olous Hotel for 11 nights. Lovely location a short walk from pretty Elounda centre, however expected more from the hotel after reading rave reviews on Trip Advisor. It is only an average hotel. Yes,cleanliness is a plus as are the friendly staff but rooms are very small and shower not fit for purpose in a modern hotel. The extra charge for air conditioning (€6 per day) considering the climate, we felt, in this day and age should be a given. First time we've every had to pay extra in Greece. Food is acceptable. You can eat breakfast on the jetty which is very pleasant but not dinner,if half board, unless you choose from the al a carte menu at a discounted price. The rooftop pool area is good as is the pool bar with drinks and snacks and a lovely view across Elounda. Would definitely visit the area again.

Although the rooms and balconies are small there is plenty of room for everything. Added bonus of tea and coffee making facilities. Also reasonable hairdryer. The beds were comfortable, the shower worked with always a plentiful supply of hot water (not always the case abroad). The rooms were spotless. Air conditioning is a must. The hotel staff were very friendly and eager to please. A large selection for breakfast both hot and cold. The rooftop bar very welcoming for pre-dinner drinks and the views from there are fantastic. Monique who ran the bar very friendly, lovely girl. The hotel is in a good location, plenty of restaurants and the marina within 10 minutes walking distance.

We had a side room with a very good view of the sea. The rooftop pool area is quite small and didn't open until 9 a.m. so first come first served. Hotel has a good policy of towels being put down the night before being removed.

All in all a good and very relaxing holiday.

This hotel was lovely and the perfect spot for relaxing. We stayed half board, but could have an evening meal if we wished. Also there was a snack bar on hand during the day. The food at breakfast was all you could ask for, it was hard to choose what you wanted as everything was fresh and looked so appetising. We are vegetarians and did not feel at all that we were left with little to choose.
The cleanliness of the hotel was everything you could want, spotless. Small shower room and toilet, little balcony and a very comfortable room. Kettle with cups and a fridge if you wanted to make your own tea or coffee. Hair dryer also in room. There is a minimarket behind the hotel, shortcut through the grounds, which has everything you could want. We would definitely not think twice about staying at the Atki Olous again.
Everyone was so helpful and friendly. We arrived quite late - around midnight and was warmly welcomed by Yanis the night receptionist, who took us to our room and showed us around. We were surprised and grateful to see that there was a lovely salad waiting for us in the fridge, which was delicious!
We would not hesitate to recommend to anyone. Near the shops and the historical site of old Olunda, with the view of Spinalonga in the distance made you feel as if you were transported to another time.
We stayed for ten nights, and came home feeling so relaxed. The hotel had it's small beach, and a rooftop pool - we always found we had room to relax on one of the sun loungers provided by the pool area, but was disappointed to see that on the beach some of the other residents were allowed to place their towels on the loungers early in the day to reserve their place for later in the day - therefore you felt that you could not choose anywhere you would have liked to sit. Apart from that we used the local bus service and travelled to Plaka, and Ag Nikolaos, and of course Spinalonga easily as the harbour and bus stop, taxis were only a short walk away from the hotel.
Well worth the money. Left with very happy memories of our holiday.

Room Tip: Sea view made it extra special.

This hotel was fabulous, spotlessly clean. Our room was on the small side but adequate, with a decent sized balcony with a slight sea view! Our bathroom had a bath with shower over and again was very clean. Breakfast had something for everyone and was replenished all the time. There was a restaurant on a long jetty across the quiet road where you could eat breakfast, lunch and dinner while watching the fish. The pool area was lovely with lots of plants and beautiful views over the sea, the shaded areas and bar were very welcome.

My only slight niggle would be the lack of drawer space, although the wardrobe space was great. And a very small thing - there was no wastebin in the room.

Highly recommend this hotel
