The area is beautiful, but I would stay elsewhere. Their reception staff failed to accommodate most of our requests. The rooms look like they have been remodeled recently, but they cut all corners. Mold in the shower, the comforters are out dated and gross. The pool is beautiful as is the view, but they need to work on their customer service. It is one thing not to be able to provide a service, but it is another to leave guests completely clueless when they need something. I would have gladly paid a little bit more to stay at a place that looks like they advertise. Also wifi only works at reception.

We stayed at the Elounda Ilion 2 - 12 May 2012. We were among the first guests of the season. Hotel staff were very friendly - particularly Dimitri (barman) and the young girl who works in the poolside bar/cafe. Our room was basic and a little dated but it was fine for what we needed - somewhere to put our heads down at night. The location was fantastic - perched above the other nearby 5* hotels so you had a wonderful view out to sea which was unobstructed (from our balcony in any event). The hotel was very clean and tidy, as was the pool area. The buffet breakfast was nice - needs to be topped up a little more often so guests are not left waiting for some items of breakfast. Dinner was nice too - occassional traditional greek dishes (moussaka, calamari, kleftiko) - calamari was amazing. The pool bar served lovely food - chips are to die for! The price averaged about €15 for 2 people with soft drinks for something like omellete and chips/chicken salad/pork souvlagi and chips. Portions are very generous too. Walk into Elounda takes about 30 minutes - do not even attempt this at night as part of the way will be pitch black and cars drive down the dirt track road. Overall we thought this hotel was very good value for money and we would stay again.

Room Tip: We were in room 47 - lovely view but up the steep hill to side of reception (we are 29 and 33 so fin...

We try to get to Crete twice a year, but with the arrival of a baby daughter, we have not been since 2010. We tend to travel all over the island when there but always stopping off at this hotel when in Elounda. All of the rooms that are part of the main hotel are very modern, but not high rise modern. There is also bungalows which are traditional Cretan, but we have never stayed in them so cannot comment on them. The hotel retains a very Cretan architecture with its use of local cretan quarried brick, and the typical white wash walls. The views out over the Mirabello gulf from your balcony, or from the fantastic pool area are simply stunning, no other word for it. Its a 10 minute walk down into the town, or a few minutes drive. The hotel is on a steep incline from the town so be prepared to break a sweat. The hotel also does all inclusive, with buffet breakfast and dinner. The food is a lot better than most other 'all inc's' that we've had, but like anywhere else, if you are in the hotel for days, you will get a day when you don't like what's on offer. The staff are very polite and helpful and are a credit to the hotel. In particular Apostole(hope I spelled it correctly) and Dimitris behind the bar. At night, you can sit outside having a drink down by the pool area, on the hotel balcony, or if there is a chill in the air, in the bar itself with it's very comfortable seats.
All in all, I would recommend this hotel to anyone, couples, families etc. It is not suited for late night clubbers, but then Elounda does not cater to that market anyway.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view out over the gulf. Remember too that the bungalows are not modern, but tr...

We have just come back from a 4 night stay. Half board. Total Cost £161.00 for 2 of us. I read all the past reviews and have to say i dont agree about the rooms at all. we paid an extra £12 and upgraded to standard Bungelow. We got a superior bungelow and it was realy good. We were going there to look at wedding venues for our duaghters wedding in May 2013 and had a tour of the hotel to look at all the room types. The standard basic rooms were fine. Clean, basic good bathrooms. I do not understand why other reviews were not happy to stay in the basic rooms. We all loved the hotel, the rooms and the staff were really lovely. Could not do enough to help you. We have to say the evening buffet was not great, but as we paid £20 a night for half board per person you cannot complain. You would not starve as there would be something you could eat. we only ate there 1 evening as we went into the vilage to eat. Breakfast was fine. Big choice and plenty of bread, cakes, fruit if you did not fancy the cooked breakfast. I have been to elounda 19 times in the past 10 years and i have to say i love the village so we walked in most days(A good 40 minute walk, 50 if you take it slow) and its a tough walk coming back. (Spend the 7 euros on a taxi back). All in all we will be giving the Ilion the thumbs up a hotel for our guests to stay in during the wedding. opposite te Porto hotel where the wedding is so ideal and if you are on a budget its fantastic value. I cannot fault it really, except the evening buffet. Staff all fantastic and the gorunds and pool area fantastic. With out a doubt we will be going back.

Room Tip: Spend little extra to upgrade to bungelow, either standard bungelow or superior but you really dont...

we have just returned from a week stay at the Elounda llion, all I can say is amazing. The pool area was clean, plenty of sun loungers that people had not got up at 5am to put towels on!!. We stayed in a superior sea view room it was clean, spacious and the view was amazing. Staff could not have being more helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. I do not often go back to the same hotel but will be booking my next stay there soon, but for 2 weeks this time. The walk into Elounda took about 30 minutes but well worth it, we went after our evening meal so nice to walk some of the wonderful food off!! For anyone looking for total peace and tranquility this is the place to go. For us we also enjoyed the fact that there were not any children there when we stayed, not that we dont like children we have 4 and 5 grandchildren but it is nice to be in a quite hotel. Go you will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: superior sea view rooms are well worth the extra money.

Elounda Ilion is set in beautiful surroundings, staff all most helpful and rooms clean, though some rooms larger than others. Breakfast better than expected for Greece, though buffet dinner not wonderful. You can get much better food in most the tavernas in town, but the downside to this is that it is a good 30 minutes' walk to get there, and coming back it is gently uphill. Taxis cost 7 euros, so need to add this into budget. 2 course meal for 2 with caraf of wine cost 35-50 euros but for really good quality food. Never tired of the stunning view from the hotel, this made the 30 minutes walk worthwhile (we were B&B).

After seeing all the lovely pictures of this hotel on internet,we were so disapponted when we were shown to rooms 50 and 51.No sign of a refurbishment here. What does one have to pay these days to be given a room of an acceptable standard.Hard bed, mismatched furniture, tatty curtain, disgusting grouting and smell in bathroom. However, room was cleaned every day and we did receive fresh towels whenever we wanted.Pool and Bar area okay and lovely views.Did not enjoy dining room experience. It was like a canteen and definitely not 4 star.Tables were not even set for breakfast. No one appeared to be in charge in Dining room although staff were polite, friendly and helpful. This aside,we did enjoy our holiday.

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished room.Rooms 50 and 51 nothing like pictures shown in brochure or on internet.
