The hotel was a long bus ride from the airport. On our first night because we were near the car park the buses were reversing back up the lane near our bedroom. We asked at reception if we could change rooms but they explained the night we arrived was the busiest night of the week and it would be quiet the rest of the week and it was.We had a sea view and single beds so were content to stay in the room.

Elounda is a lovely little harbour town on the East side of Crete. It has a scenic harbour front with lots of boats and restaurants but is not too touristy (at least in wasn't in June). Agios Nicholas nearby is very touristy though there is access to the bus station from here.

It's worth hiring a car or going on a safari tour just to explore this rich island. A boat trip to Spinalonga, the former leper colony that had its last patient in 1955 is a short boat trip away and worth a visit. The quaint town of Plaka is nearby also. A place to chill out and while away the days but with lots to explore.

Actually drove up to Plaka, revisiting old holiday sites, first seen in 1985 , when we stayed at Korfos Beach. Hopped on water taxi to Spinalonga equipped with copy of Victoria Hislop paperback!Very eerie enchanting island with sad sad history both fairly recent and Turkish occupation ,of course, it's a " must see" , as are so many others.

The island tour was very good, but having booked through Thomson online, I didn't realise that they use a different company once in the resort, so would have had to go on a different coach from the rest of the party. Luckily the tour rep sorted this in the resort (Just for future reference, book the excursions in the resort!)
There was not enough time on the island to roam, but still a good excursion. Make sure you take plenty of water and decent shoes!
