What a wonderful place - your own private island paradise. Lida is a wonderful host who makes it feel very quickly as if its your own residence. The nearby beaches at the back of the island are the best we experienced in the whole of Crete and probably Greece. The views across the bay at sunset are magical and the whole setting including the causeway and nearby 'Canale' restaurant made Elounda and Spinalonga the favourite part of our holiday. Thank you Lida!! xx

This secluded group of holiday villas on the peninsula of Spinalonga is a real find. You approach via a causeway, sea lapping on either side, leaving the touristy but pleasant town of Elounda behind you. There you find this family-run self catering accommodation and small cafe which is the perfect place to relax and get away from it all. If you wish, once you stock up on supplies from the small super market in Elounda, you need never stray further than the cafe serving breakfast and lunch (simple but excellent food, the best Greek salad I've eaten anywhere, and delicious daily specials) and the small dock in front of the villas for a dip in the clear sea. If you feel more adventurous, it is a great base from which to explore a myriad of archeological sites, villages and churches in and around the area. The beautiful bay of Kolokytha is nearby and the island of Spinalonga is a short boat trip away. There are many options if you wish to eat out in the evening, but by far my favourite was the fish taverna on the causeway, the only other building nearby, just a five minute stroll by foot. The family (Lida and her parents) are very welcoming and helpful, and strike just the right balance of being available and discrete. It is clear many guests return to stay here time and time again and I am sure this is as much due to their hospitality as it is to the beautiful location. A word on the villas themselves - many describe them as 'rustic' and 'simple but comfortable' - this is true, but the rooms and the cafe have been furnished with care and style and the overall vibe is sort of honest chic. The villas are architect designed, built in the seventies, and are like a clever puzzle where no one villa is overlooked by another and you feel as though the place is smaller than it really is. I really loved it here and can't wait to return!

Room Tip: I stayed in villa 6 which has two balconies, meaning you have the luxury of switching according to how much or little sun you seek. The views of the bay from the main bedroom are also spectacular. The villa was cool inside even on the hottest days, but I think they are all like this, again down to the clever design.

The rooms may be basic but the setting for this gorgeous rustic group of holiday houses is absolutely stunning. Being able to watch the sun set over the Gulf of Mirabillo is awesome. This is the only building on the promontory of Spinalonga, opposite Elounda, and it was amazing to leave the rather touristy town for the oasis of the villas. The breakfasts were delicious, and the special lunches cooked by the owners were definitely the best food in that part of Crete. The welcome was warm, with lots of friendly advice on days out (do go to the island of Spinalonga), which made up for the rather hard beds and dated bathrooms. Even though this is an eco resort and run on solar power, there is wifi available in the dining area, which was an unexpected bonus. There is no aircon but we did not need it, even in July. There are lots of hidden beaches nearby which are really beautiful with clear, warm sea.

Rustic but confortable solar houses on the Kolokytha peninsula which garantee quiet and cool days and nights close to animated Elounda. Very good place to relax with your family and enjoy the cristal clear Egean sea all around the villas. If you're interested in discovering nature, rich historical sites and authentic tavernas in Eastern Crete, Lida is the perfect adviser ! With her family she makes you feel like at home in this lovely and exciting part of Crete. Lassithi plateau and his windmills, Spinalonga island, Mochlos, Kritsa, Gournia, Vaï, Zakros...are wonderful locations we enjoyed during our 8 days with 3 children (2 teenagers and one 8 years old girl).
Friendly charming atmosphere and diversified library at disposal in the 'taverna', we highly recommend Elounda villas especially for tired big cities' citizens !
