“A beautiful experience. I will definitely come back”
Reviewed 14 January 2014

Last October I had the chance to visit Heraklion - Crete right on the Eve of The Cretan Union Cup.
I stayed at Lato and was simply impressed by its unique location, the kindness of the staff. My room was super comfortable, with lovely colors, super clean and with a beautiful terrace. I couldn´t take my eyes from the azure sea and endless blue of the sky. I thought that was the best of my experience until I went to the hotel´s roof-top restaurant – Herb´s Garden and tasted the fabulous food, while enjoying the views of the city at night. Simply amazing. My trip was only for two days, but I enjoyed every minute and Lato´s staff made a really enjoyable stay for me. I will come back to visit Crete and I already know where I´ll be staying: at Lato Boutique Hotel.

Room Tip: Choose a room with views at the Venetian Castle. You´ll love it.

We stayed here for five days between Christmas and New Year's for a wedding. The hotel was almost fully booked but the service was still excellent. We were given a very small room upon check-in so went back to Reception to enquire if a bigger room was available. They moved us straight away into a much bigger room. They even showed us two more rooms the following day. Our room was in the main building and it was the most spacious out of all the rooms we were shown. The two other rooms they showed us the next day were in the annex and were smaller but more modern with tea and coffee making facilities. I preferred the look of the more modern rooms in the annex but we would have had a view of the road outside of the hotel so we decided to stay in the main building with a partial view of the fort.

Breakfast was fine with plenty of choice. We didn't eat in the restaurant but the food and wine they served at the wedding was very good. We were particularly impressed with the Reception staff who went out of their way to help us with any queries we had. There aren't many parking spaces outside the hotel but you can leave your car keys at Reception and someone parks/collects the car for you. There was one night when we got disturbed by noise from an adjacent room and loud talking in the hallway. The hotel isn't all that well insulated and the doors to the rooms are quite noisy to close. But this wouldn't stop us from staying here again. The location is perfect within walking distance to the fort, the centre and various nice tavernas. The only thing missing is a pool. The hotel does have a sauna/steam room but you have to pay to visit them which is a shame as in most hotels access to the spa is free for guests. On the plus side, there is a computer with free access to the internet and free printing in the lobby, which was great because we could check in online and print our boarding passes for the flight back.

Spent three nights here in early November, and I will certainly return. The rooms were well furnished, spacious and it has a spectacular view of the fort (Venetian Fort) .Check-in was easy and the staff was great. WiFi is Free and works like a charm, nothing more can be asked. The breakfast arrangements were pretty good with no problems of waiting for tables. I read few reviews before opting for hotel, but honestly the size of standard room were pretty satisfactory for me. I find the price fair for the kind of service given to guests.

Room Tip: Opt for seaview rooms.

The staff were attentive yet not in your face. We were always made to feel welcome and never had to wait for service. That is incredibly important to us as a family. The rooms were spacious, comfortable and had wonderful views of the fort from the quiet little street it was located in.They were also clean and a pleasure to stay in. Close to the city centre and the port the hotel itself was placed perfectly for us. The roof restaurant was great value too and served some fabulous food, I definitely recommend you try it out. We have been to Crete a number of times and stayed in some really nice hotels before our holiday here. The next visits though we will be coming back to Lato Boutique. We had a really enjoyable stay!

Room Tip: Any room overlooking the Venetian Fort

We traveled to Iraklio from 30.12.2013 to 04.01.2014, a family of three. We had a double room in the annex building, first floor, facing a wall. Very tiny room for three people and because of the no-sight-at-all-window, very claustrophobic. No window or ventilator in the bathroom, so no place for the vapors to go but into the room itself. In the last night, they accommodated an entire football team - hence becoming impossible to rest - so they moved us in the main building. We had a room at the second floor, facing the street, which made it bearable noisy - I suppose in summer time it becomes less than bearable. The good news was the room was bigger, with a hall and the room itself, separated by a sliding door. The bad news was the very small "double" bed.

I don't know why they advertise the rooms as "soundproofed" - both in the annex and main building we could hear every step and sound in the hall way and neighboring rooms. In the main building room which was facing the street we could hear the traffic and the people talking around the hotel - very poor quality of the thermopane windows.

A plus: the lady in the front desk was very efficient with moving us from one building to other and in general, very helpful with tavernas arrangements etc.

Bottom line: if this is the third best hotel in Crete, I wonder how is the rest of remaining 57?!

Room Tip: I suppose a room on a higher level and facing the see in the main building would make a good choice.

Dear Aevum,
Thank you for choosing Lato Boutique Hotel for your accommodation while in Crete and for your kind words and feedback concerning our personnel’s efficiency.
Striving for excellence, there is always room for improvement. Your input is very valuable for us in this process.
Dear Aevum, we make every effort to suit all our guests’ request and fulfil expectations and needs. According to our records your booking was made for one double and two single rooms. We had promptly informed your travel agent that only standard room types were available for the time period requested, due to heavy occupancy.
Please kindly note that our reservation department had never been requested for a family room, neither for a triple one. Please also note that our family policy allows children up to six-years-old to stay free in the parents’ bedroom.
Dear guest, we are sincerely deeply sorry for your frustration concerning your initial room allocation. As clearly stated in our official website, our hotel complex is constituted by two neighbouring and functionally united buildings, fully refurbished during 2012-13, where guests enjoy common facilities, services and accommodation comforts.
All our rooms acquire bright windows and/ or balconies or verandas. There are no inner rooms in our property. Balcony doors provide sound proof and certified thermal insulation.
Indeed a football team was accommodated for a night during your stay. Although our records are clear of any issues even in this fully booked situation, we will take all necessary actions towards eliminating any possibilities for similar incidents. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused due to higher noise level.
Dear Aevum, we really hope to have the opportunity to offer you our services again anytime in the future.
We offer hospitality services for almost 40 years and our most important prize is our guests’ love and trust.

Great location (at the center of the city, very close to the bus station and the port, but on a quiet street), elegantly renovated, comfortable and spacious rooms, some with great view to the sea. Friendly and helpful staff

We spent 4 nights here from 28/9/13 to 1/10/13 inclusive.Staff very professional and also pleasant. If you like plane spotting, stay at the Lato- they go over frequently and low but as room appeared to be very soundproof this was not a problem.Good breakfast. Very nice rooftop restaurant also and PC in lobby also a bonus. Would be very happy to stay here again- Lato is a credit to Heraklion, Crete and Greece.

Room Tip: I cannot speak for the wing across the street, but the main hotel building is excellent.
