We travelled from Palekastro in South East Crete and we were uncertain as to whether we would stay on the south coast or in Ierapetra. The reviews of the coast east of Ierapetra tell no lies. There was nothing along this stretch of road that inspired us to stop the car. We decided we would stay in the town. The road into Ierepetra from the east directs you out the other side so we had to find our way back to the waterfront where this lovely hotel is situated. El Greco is modern and stylish. The quality is high. The room faced the water with a glass balcony looking over the Lybian sea. The service was good and the staff were friendly. The bed was exceptionally comfortable and we paid extra for a suite, 80 euros and the bathroom was enormous. The food in the restaurant was good and so was the breakfast which you could take sitting by the water front. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel. I would thoroughly recommend a stay in this lovely Cretan town- its busy, it has good shops, it has a harbour and fishing boats, it has character. It has a beach and clear water altough the sea is quite rocky and difficult to access at some points. It was the only place worth stopping the car for on that coast east of Myrtos. It was a wonderful end to our holiday in South East Crete.

El Greco in Ierapetra is a great hotel sitated at the harbur-front. The rooms are spacious with a very modern interior. Large bath-room. Good beds, not as firm as many Greek hotel-beds, but still not too soft. With an open door you may sleep to the sound of the sea outside. Breakfast were good, but a bit limited at this time out of season and few guests.

Room Tip: Sea front rooms are the best

An absolutely superb place to stay, one of our favourites ( and we travel a lot!). The balcony of our suite was not only overlooking the sea, it felt like the balcony of a cruise ship over the sea! Large and well furnished it was a spectacular place to watch the sunrise on Epiphany and the waves crashing in when the UK storm arrived. Definitely worth the extra. A very large room with an extremely comfortable, huge, bed, flat screen tv and spacious shower room. Very helpful and friendly staff, who knew a lot about local places to visit and eat at, made our stay even more enjoyable. Practically next door an excellent taverna too. You could not find a better hotel in Ierapetra and having researched and stayed in Chania too, it was much better than anything there.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view suite.

My husband & I stayed here November 23,2011. We walked around hotel hunting and discovered this hotel in Ierapetra . We were offered a large room with balcony overlooking the harbor and the Libyan Sea. The room and the amenities/facilities were outstanding. A very comprehensive breakfast buffet was included. With off-season rates we couldn't have asked for more. The staff was very accommodating. The location was excellent - walking distance to all downtown attractions - the beach, the marina, the Turkish sector and many bars & restaurants. We would return to Ierapaetra and to this hotel when we are next in Crete. The weather at the end of November was sunny and about 24-5C. Locals were swimming in the Libyan Sea. Try the Gorgon restaurant! Good food, good value.

Room Tip: Seaview rooms are worth the extra cost

I highly recommend it to everyone who wants to stay in Ierapetra! A beachfront hotel in the center of everything! Top choice for someone who wants to go to Chrissi Island for a day trip! El Greco is a boutique style hotel with the best seaview! Breakfast was reasonable for greek conditions!!

We stayed at El Greco from April 1 -10 and the hotel was right in the center of town on the boardwalk. The hotel's staff were very friendly, informative and knew the ins and outs of the city (and even a lot of the island). Stephanos and Alexi who ran the front desk were super helpful in anything asked of them. The room itself was a gorgeous, modern and very large room. The bathroom was large with modern amenities. We stayed in a superior ocean view room and the views were gorgeous. Breakfast was included in the room rate and was a good value. We only ate dinner at the hotel's restaurant twice and both times the meal was great. There is a loading zone in front of the hotel, but no parking. That was not a problem because since the hotel was in the center of town, if you couldn't find parking on the street, there was a car park 2 minutes walking from the hotel for $2euros a day. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone.
