We previously stayed at Mikes in September 2012 and gave it a well deserved review. We are generally ones who return to the same holiday destination, never mind the same hotel, however, due to our previous experience we decided to return here.
I think all previous reviews are spot on. Yes the beds are somewhat harder than we would normally use and yes the barman at the adjacent hotel can be irritating at times, however, they are only minor issues and are far outweighed by the clean spacious accommodation and the friendliness of all staff.
Everyone has mentioned Manos and Sophia and rightly so. They are first class hosts who cannot do enough to ensure everything is perfect for your stay. They are both kind and helpful, with excellent senses of humour. Maria and Katarina during the day and Joanna at night always have a genuine smile on their face and nothing is too much trouble.
Maleme is a quiet location, however, as stated numerous times the buses are very easy to use, being cheap and frequent and there are no issues with the staff understanding English.
Driving is also not a problem through-out Crete and I would recommend hiring a car for a few days as there is so much to see with outstanding beauty and incredible beaches. I would also recommend an incredible day at the Samaria Gorge, utterly outstanding.
Mikes has a high return rate and I know why. They have the perfect recipe for a perfect holiday, location, excellent accommodation, food that cannot be surpassed and a genuine friendliness that is unfortunately not found often enough these days. Will we return? no question about it and soon hopefully.

Room Tip: All rooms are good, however, the apartments are larger, nearer the sea and with good views.

From the minute we stepped into reception we were well looked after. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and readily available. Manos and Joanna kept us entertained at the bar of an evening and Sophia kept the laughter flowing in the restaurant. What a great family and staff. The rooms are spacious and clean and the amenities provide all basic requirements. Maleme itself is quiet but the local bus runs every 20-30 mins from early morning to late evening to the larger towns. There were many repeat visitors to the complex, some of whom had been unable to get booked in and were staying elsewhere but still came every day to seek out the friendly atmosphere. We will certainly return.

Room Tip: All good rooms

Back one day and already missing Crete, jokes apart, my apartment in Mike's Apartments was very spacious, clean and functional, with a nice balcony overlooking the garden and blue sea in the distance . It was definitely the nicest apartment I have ever had in Greece. Moreover, the whole complex was very well looked-after, with lovely gardens and a big and deep swimming pool, charming bar area and a splendid, even if pebbled, beach at the front. The gentleman running the place was very helpful and informative and the staff was polite and quiet (no noisy, pushy types around)... I cannot recommend it enough. Furthermore, there are at least five taverns and at least three supermarkets in close proximity. BTW - I agree with the previous comments - the barman across the road in the Imperial Hotel was dreadful, I am surprised nobody beheaded him yet for his never-ending barking.

Room Tip: Room 206 was great - generally it is better to go for first of second floor rooms.

I will start with the downside first, the beds were a bit hard and the barman in the hotel opposite liked the sound of his own voice, very loud and could be heard from a long way off, but these were only minor, we work hard and try and have as many holidays as money allows and try not to go back to the same place twice, but I can honestly say that this was one of the nicest hotels we have been to and will definately go back, the hotel was clean quiet and very friendly, all family run, and what a nice family, nothing was to much trouble and went out there way to please, food was delicious and a nice price, and cooked by the mum and served by sophia the daughter, such a happy friendly girl, theres lovely tavernas near by and a good stocked mini supermarket, theres a quiet road seperating the appartments from the sea.the beach is very stony so good beach shoes need to be worn as its impossible to walk on without them, they can be bought from the shop cheap.the complex is in two parts, the hotel on the top road and appartments which we was in at the bottom.the two tavernas nearest were the best and served lovely carbanara.theres no wi fi in the rooms only around the pool area, but if you want to watch a bit of tv take some dvd, s as theres a player in the room, with only two news channels on the tv it mite be a good idea, we loved this place and would recommend to anyone, just one more thing if you take children be careful as the top main road has a 30 ft drop at the edge and in a few other places so dont let them run off on there own without checking first.the buses are only 2 euros and there one of them tourist trains nearby all explained in the reps brochure.

Room Tip: The appartments were down close to the sea and the main hotel was up on the top road but no complain...

This is our fourth visit to Mike Hotel and Apartments!! It was just as wonderful as ever. We stayed in the apartments this time and went to the hotel for breakfast. We had a lovely welcome from the family who run the business and enjoyed the meals in the evening at the hotel - perfectly cooked by Sophia's mum. There is a bus stop right outside the hotel which will take you east or west - plenty of choices. Our favourite trip (we always do it) is to Paleachora (over the mountains). It's a beautiful seaside village and so pretty. We also enjoyed our visits to Ghania and one day we visited Kalives (the other side of Ghania). Hope to return to Mike Hotel and Apartments again next year!!!!

Room Tip: A room at the hotel with a view of the sea is lovely!! n Our apartment this year had a sea view too...

We have recently returned from a fantastic 2 weeks at Mike Hotel. We stayed in the hotel which is set further back from the pool, pool bar and apartments and which also included breakfast every day.
The hotel is family run and from the moment we arrived, we were made to feel welcome and relaxed.
We were also very fortunate that our holiday coincided with the Annual U.K. Crete Veterans reunion for men who served in Crete in the Second World War and their families and friends. The reunion commemorates the Battle of Crete in 1941. We were immediately named as 'The Family' and were invited along to every event which included Battle Re-enactments and Memorial Services for those who gave their lives. Very emotional but also left us feeling very proud. Our young son was in awe of the remaining veterans - all of whom we will remember for a very long time...
Rooms are cleaned every day, (except Sundays), and to a very high standard. Everyone goes out of their way to ensure that you want for nothing and have a wonderful time. Special mention goes to Sophia for always being on hand to help, Sophia's mum for her fantastic cooking, (and cake), and also to Manos and Maria at the pool bar. Thank you so much - we sincerely miss you all and hope to return very soon!
Dan, Anna & Henry

Room Tip: We had the family room in the Hotel which has 2 separate bedrooms. Perfect for a small family.

My stay at Mikes Hotel & Apartments is definitely one of my fondest memories.
I actually visited in August 2012 but felt the need to write a review now as I am new to Tripadvisor.
I stayed in an apartment which was beautiful and close to the pool, bar and beach. Manos and Alex at the bar were particularly friendly and always provided excellent service. The apartments were within short distance of historical attributes, bus stops and plenty of restaurants and the area offered access to both lively and quiet evenings.
I'd definitely recommend visiting Chania as well as the day cruises to Skopelos.
