What a brilliant week we had when we stayed here. It was a spontaneous trip and I can tell you it was one of our favourites. The apartment was immaculate, Maria, Manos, Sophia et all, could not be friendlier or more helpful, the food was divine (both pool side and at the hotel restaurant) and being vegetarians, Sophia's mum made us a very special moussaka which just ticked every box. This place is a dream and the surrounding area and restaurants just matched the entire mood all round of Maleme. I never tend to go back anywhere, but I would definitely keep this place as an ace up my sleeve, a return definitely being on the cards.

We stayed here 5-12 Aug, I didn't want to write a review because I fear it will be booked up next year. The place was excellent. We stayed in the hotel, we ate in the restaurant every night, fantastic food cooked by Sophia's mum. Sophia and her family made us feel very welcome, will be hoping to return next year!

This was our first visit to this wonderful hotel. From check in to departure day we were treated with such friendliness by every member of staff it was amazing. We were checked in by the delightful Sophia who throughout the holiday was the 'hostess with the mostest' always chirpy and ever helpful about where to go and what to do.
Our room was in the hotel rather than the apartments and being at the front of the building the fairly busy road runs outside your window. This wasn't a problem sleep wise though on account of double glazed sliding doors and a set of shutters to keep most of the noise out. The rooms at the rear look towards the sea and I think would be somewhat quieter.
All areas of the hotel and pool bar were spotlessly clean and well manicured, sun loungers were plentiful and the pool was crystal clear.
Location wise Malame is a little remote so we opted to hire a car for the whole 14 days. Some of the best beaches, Elafonissi, Falassarna and Paleohora are at least an hour away as are Rethymnon and Heraklion. We booked this along with the holiday the cost being around £280 as I recall. What we didn't know at the time was that there's a car hire company literally next door owned by Mike's brother ! Trips to the above mentioned places were well worth the time spent on the road. Two other places that we would recommend to visit are the German and British war cemeteries. Both are immaculately kept and are a credit to their respective commissions. The British one in particular sits in a wonderful position looking out onto Souda Bay.
Closer to home Chania is a beautiful little town with a lovely habour area and five minutes up the road is Platanias which is much livelier with plenty of bars, nightclubs and shops. Malame itself is quite small with maybe half a dozen restaurants and bars mainly along the seafront plus a couple along the main road. We ate out about half the time and used the hotel restaurant for the rest of the time. Food was great in house, they even had a Cretan version of roast dinner on Sundays!

So in summary what made this a great holiday?

1. The hotel and in particular the wonderful friendly staff.
2. Crete is a beautiful island
3. Weather, around 30 degrees but with a cooling breeze most of the time.
4. Loads of history to explore.

And the final question, would we go back? Answer, absolutely YES !!! in fact we are planning to return next year.

Room Tip: The hotel rooms at the rear (beach facing) have a better view and would be quieter than those at the...

Cannot find fault, fantastic place, great Greek hospitality from all. Like a family community as a lot are regulars. Food is great at the pool bar as well as the Hotel just up the road. They all work very hard to ensure you have what you need and you get a daily dose of vitamins!!! Will certainly return ourselves.

We arrived at Mikes on the 8th July for 2 weeks..... we were greeted warmly at the reception by Manos who looks after the apartment side and pool bar. We stayed in the apartments which were lovely, clean and spacious and the beach was just opposite us. The whole of the staff were very welcoming to us always. The pool area was spotless and plenty of sunbeds which meant that what ever time we went there was always a sunbed for us. Its a B&B and breakfast is served every morning up at the hotel which was also very clean and well kept, which is about 150yds from the apartments and pool. In-between the apartments and hotel they, Manos and Sophia`s dad, grow their own produce to use in the meals they cook. Its a very family run place.
The breakfast was always good and served with a smile by Sophia who looks after the hotel and restaurant side with the lovely ladies... If you want evening meal this is available every night, you don`t have to book and the food is just delicious made by Manos and Sophia`s mum, home made traditional Greek food with loads of choice and specials on every night.... and after evening meal comes the Raki served ice cold!
Down at the pool bar snack food is also served ..... Delicious home made pizza`s, Feta, Greek and Tuna salads are a must to have, all served with a smile and efficiency....
All day long at the pool bar it serves refreshments including "vitamins" .........
Vitamins as Manos names them is "Ouzo shots" he`s very generous with these, the first few days we had to brace ourselves but by the end of the 2 weeks they weren't tasting so bad, haha... At night time round the pool bar he played great music and great choice of drinks, including a very impressive cocktail list. Manos and Joanna were never still as we made our way through the list..... The place is quiet at night time so sleeping isn't a problem, also the air-con keeps the rooms cool....
We used the bus service a lot and it was brilliant, air-conditioned buses not expensive.... there are a few places to eat near the hotel but we found quite quickly that the hotel food was the best around...
We travelled to Chania during both day and night time to see the beautiful harbour, we also ate down there a few times and it was really lovely.
This holiday was fantastic, it was made this way by Manos, Sophia and their family and wonderful staff, the place, and our friends we went with..... it should be a 5* for all their care and nothing too much trouble attitude to us the food and the cleanliness.... Mikes Hotel & Apartments would be a place I would love to go to again!!! Wiggle Wiggle Manos... Thankyou! love Gail & Rod xXx

My wife and I stayed in the hotel part for eleven nights in July. First things first. This is a family run complex, and you will feel like an old family friend almost straight away. All the people working there are the warmest, friendliest people you will ever meet. It was a privilege to make their acquaintance and I am a better person for having met them all.
Our room was if fact a family room. One room having two single beds, the other having a double bed. The bed was very firm but I think the most comfortable bed I have slept in. The bathroom was adequate. The room was cleaned every day bar Sunday. Everywhere is kept nice and clean. The evening meals in the hotel restaurant are excellent. The Granny does the cooking and you will not get better food anywhere in Crete. Very reasonably priced too! Some of the food is grown on their own plot. When you finish your meal you always get complimentary cake and shots. Then you go to pay you get more but different complimentary shots along with friendly chats. Always a lovely meal.
The Apartments, pool and pool bar are a very brief stroll from the hotel. You walk past their vegetable plot. The pool is very nice and the pool area good, with plenty of sun loungers and plenty of space. The pool bar staff members are so nice and so efficient. The pool bar food is good also. Every time you order anything you get more complementary shots as well. They jokingly say “time for your vitamins” when they bring them over. If you don’t like Ouzo when you arrive, you will be fond of it before you leave. Beer cost €2.80 a pint but a spirit and mixer is quite expensive at €4.50. There is no entertainment or shows provided but always a great atmosphere and fantastic interaction between staff and guests. It opens until 2.00am. We heard so many people say they had booked for next year already. The other guests were mostly British and all were friendly and polite without being intrusive.
The beach is across a quiet road. It is a very quiet pebble beach, never anyone sitting close to you. It is a good idea to bring or buy swimming shoes. Not good for small children as it shelves a bit.
Maleme (pronounced Mal-a-may) itself has very little in it, a few tavernas and only a few shops. There is not even a cash machine. The nearest ATM is in Platanias, a much larger resort with nightclubs etc just a short bus ride down the road. There is a bus stop outside the hotel and the bus service is very good with reasonable fares. Don’t be apprehensive about getting the local buses to explore. They are air conditioned coaches with very helpful and friendly mostly English speaking conductors. The younger people staying in the complex would often spend the early part of the night at the pool bar and then head into Plantanias but just as often stay around for the entire evening.
If you want all-inclusive board, a big sandy beach with shallow water, a busy resort and/or a hectic night life until 6.00am with hordes of lager louts stay away. If you want to veg-out around a lovely pool, had a few dips in the sea and meet lovely people then this complex is a good choice.
Karl Couse.
