We were one of the first people to rent this Villa, and I wanted to make sure everyone knew what we experienced here, what is possible here, and why I think this is the best property to rent in Crete, Greece, The Mediterranean, Europe, maybe the world. Here’s what you need to know about Villa Moana: it’s perfect. I want you to understand just what you’re getting when you book this amazing Villa:
1) The service/people taking care of you and the house: when you arrive, you’ll meet the best people you’ve ever met in your life – Mr. Manolis and Mr. Leonidas. These two men will make your vacation rental experience exponentially superior to any other vacation you’ve ever had. Perfect, even. When you arrive (we arrived very late at night), they’ll be waiting for you. They’ll show you the property, and how everything works – and you’ll need it, since the villa has everything you could ever want: sauna, heated pool, jacuzzi, an elevator, a fully stocked kitchen, a movie theater with room for a dozen people, and on and on. They’ll show you where the little market is, where you can buy your own food, beverages, etc – and they’ll tell you they can go and get that for you, too. In fact, anything you need, Manolis and Leonidas will do for you. Need a doctor? They’ll take you there. Need to know where to go for dinner? They’ll tell you. Need to know how to get anywhere? They’ll help you. These are extraordinary human beings, and they’re truly the best people you’ll ever meet. Our vacation here would have been very nice if it were just us, but having Manolis and Leonidas just a few steps away (they work in a small coffee shop, owned by the same people that own the Villa right below the Villa), made this an unforgettable vacation. You can call their shop directly and ask them to bring you drinks or food. They’ll come in every morning and clean the pool and jacuzzi and the gardens. EVERY SINGLE MORNING. Two incredible ladies will also show up in the morning, at whatever time you think is best, and make you breakfast – yes, that’s right. They’ll clean the property, change your sheets and towels (every 2 days). This is not like a hotel, it’s MUCH, MUCH, better. I can’t stress this enough: you’re renting a Villa, but the people working for the Villa are what make this a differentiated place. No other Villa we’ve ever rented had this kind of service, and we know we won’t find it again. There’s nothing like arriving at an entirely different, exotic and new location, and being reassured that you’ll be in good hands, that there are people around you who know where everything is, where you can get anything you need, and that will take care of you. Again, this Villa is what it is because of the people working there.
2) The location: if you’ve never been to Crete, Bali is a small village, one or two proper main roads, and that’s it. The Villa is right on the beach – all you have to do is cross a paved road (only about 12 feet/4 meters wide) where almost no cars go through, since they try to block it in the summer. This simple road has at least a dozen restaurants and another several stores and markets where you can buy everything from food and drinks, to hats and sunscreen. You’ll park your rental car right in front of the villa, and no one will mess with it. You’ll cross that road barefoot, and you’ll be in your private beach area. We made the Villa our “headquarters”, and from there we would take day trips around Crete, to Santorini, to Athens, and dozens of other places. We spent 3 weeks here, and it goes by VERY FAST. But Bali is right in the center-north of the island, so trips at night for a nicer dinner in Rethymno only takes you 20-30 minutes, tops. The airport (HER) is about 40-50 minutes away. You can get to the beautiful south Crete in 1-2 hours, and you can have outstanding meals all along the way. Bali has several good restaurants for lunch – like Golden Sun right next to the Villa (ask for Mr. Nikos), and if you just want to relax, walk to your restaurant in flip-flops, you’re right next to dozens of good places right there.
3) The beach: you have 12 seats, including 2 cabanas, in a corded-off private beach area. The entire beach might be full, but you’ll never be bothered as you have your exclusive area. The guys who take care of the house will ensure your area is kept clean, that you stay hydrated, that you get food and drinks at your own pace and desire. The beach itself is really calm, like a lagoon, but I do recommend you bring water shoes to avoid any issues like slipping on some rocks that are inside the ocean. If you forget them, you can buy them for under $10 in one of the many stores next to the Villa.
4) The Villa itself: I mentioned all their amenities above, but you have to see it to believe it. The pictures you see on this website? 100% real. I know I didn’t expect the house to look like it did in the pictures, but when we got there, I could not believe my eyes. Feel free to reach out to me and I can share hundreds of pictures of the Villa that we took. The view? Ocean and mountains, unobstructed. The rooms? Well, there are 6 of them, all automated, with individual climate control, TV’s, and power shades in EVERY SINGLE ROOM. You can play ping-pong, relax in your heated pool at whatever time you want, go to your jacuzzi in the middle of the night, or go swimming in the ocean, less than 50 meters from the pool. It really, REALLY, is like the pictures. It’s spectacular.
I don’t know how else to put this: Villa Moana is owned by incredible people, is operated by the best people, and the Villa itself is in a perfect location – no other Villa has this view, these amenities, this infrastructure (markets, stores, shops, restaurants). If you’re worried about anything, trust this traveler: don’t. Book this and go have the best vacation of your life.
Photos meet reality! The Villa is fantastic. Excellent quality building (Villa Moana is brand new, perfectly equipped and super clean). The features and the position are just great. Two steps and you reach your private sunbeds on the beach - what a treat! Manolis and Leonidas are incredibly friendly and they really look after you (you need something? Ask them and they'll provide a solution). Close to good Tavernas. But actually you want to stay at home...
Remains the hope that every visitor treat this beautiful Villa with respect. We'll come again!
