“DO NOT BOOK!”
Reviewed 5 October 2010

This hotel was sold as a 4* - more likely a 2/3, until breakfast, then we reclassified THIS DUMP as a 1*. The staff were the worst I have ever encounted in any hotel home or abroad. I really felt like I was intruding. It was really uncomfortable just asking for a drink as the bar, as the staff were so unfriendly, and we were just getting in their way.

Peaceful is one thing - but the atmosphere at this hotel was horrible. It was so quiet, that on our first and only night, we couldn't help but whisper to each other and were too afraid to even speak let alone try and enjoy ourselves.

Room was big, but tatty and not clean. Every sun umbrella by the pool was broken - every single one tatty and falling apart. Food was bad and the restaurant area also had that errie uncomfortable feeling. Staff horrible and unfriendly. We saw one couple being asked to hand in their passports to reception, but we were not asked for ours - which is weird.

The only good thing about this holiday was the move to a different hotel. The Olympic staff (on the other end of the phone - no Rep at the hotel and now we know why) were actually very nice and understanding and within 2 hours we were in a taxi to another hotel. Swiftly followed by 15 other guests that one day alone - and a few more that we recognised over the next few days.

IS THIS HOTEL STILL OPEN - towards the end of our holiday people started to arrive at the new hotel even though they were booked at this dump. Olympic obviously didn't even bother taking them to Ilatia, because so many of us had already moved out. It must have been empty the week we booked.

DO NOT BE POLITE WE-DON'T-COMPLAIN-ENGLISH-TOURIST - if you end up in this hotel, call your travel agent and get moved asap!

We were sold a 4* Hotel with All Incusive food and drink. We arrived at this hotel at around 4.30am and went straight to bed once checked in. The room was big and clean. The bathroom was small and had no bath tub, just a shower curtain and a sectioned off area to shower in (more like what you get in a hostel while backpacking). There was a lot of general noise coming from outside and other rooms so was hard to sleep in peace. We had missed breakfast so can't comment on that but they serve club sandwiches from 11am onwards. We asked for one and the man pointed at the fridge which had ham, cheese and bread in it and what turned out to be a faulty sandwich toaster. Basically we had to make it ourselves. They only served certain drinks as part of all inclusive. There was no entertainment or atmosphere what so ever, just very quiet. Staff we not helpful or friendly at all, and kind of just ignored guests. This is not what I expect from a 4* All Inc Hotel at all. We managed to get moved to another hotel so we were lucky, there is no way we could have stayed at this place for a day let alone a week.

well what cant i say about ilatia village.
the staff are very rude, the food was disgusting and cold, the same food came out every couple of days was very repitive, boring and not cooked well. there was certain hours when you could eat your breakfast, lunch and dinner and during those times only beer and wine was served, no other alcoholic drinks. if you did want something to eat inbetween the only thing that was on offer was to make ur own sandwich toastie, they left the bread, cheese, ham and butter in a little fridge outside and left a toaties machine outside (which did not work) to do it allo your self. there was nothing to buy so if you wanted to drink or eat something else this was not an option and you would have to walk 10 minutes to get something as simple as a packet of crisps or water!
rooms were big, cleaners left the sheets and pillow cases for you to change them yourself, and the beds were extremeley dirty and constantley had bites around our ankles. no one cleaned the pool at all while we were there. i felt sorry flor the famills that were there nothing for kids to do no entertainment and no kids food...overall was rubbish!!

This Hotel is advertised as a 4* all inclusive but its really a 2/3* but luckily the prices match that. You get what you pay for.

On arrival we were charged 30 Euro's for a weeks worth of air-con, later we saw a notice saying it was 15 euros and when we confronted the manager he said he had given the cleaner the 15 to leave on our bed, which never happened. The cleaners also went through our bags (pretty obviously), turned our air-con off two of the days, left our patio door unlocked three times and didnt make the beds for us (I have stayed in youth hostels and even they make your bed!).

The rooms overall are spacious but for a new hotel, not very well maintained: the plaster was peeling off in the shower room, there were stains on the mattress (no protector), the sheets were too small for the mattress (which is how we found the stains), the double bed was two twins pushed together and moved apart regularly if you roll over in your sleep! The drawers were broken and the soap and towel racks fell off the wall on touch.

The pool was really nice, same depth all around (about 5ft 2) and was never crowded. Around the pool however it seemed to get stickier as our week progressed and the only time they cleaned around it was on our last day. There are 19 sun-beds for 29 rooms so when it was busy they were all towelled by 7.30a.m. The grounds were not very well kept and there was a road that wasn't fenced off which I saw children getting precariously close a couple of times.

The food was okay, not amazing but enough choice to keep you satisfied although outside the set meal times all you could eat were toasties made (yourself) from stale bread and processed ham and cheese. If you arrived late to food times when the hotel was busy there wasnt much left. The drinks range was small and they didnt wash the glasses a lot of the time as I saw them rinsing the ones they had just collected when I went up.

They advertise entertainment but in the 8 days we were there there was an hour of "greek" dancing once by some of the staff and they weren't very enthusiastic. All the staff were Eastern European and weren't very friendly to the English guests (the hotel catered for English and Polish guests). The bar staff would regularly walk away when you went to the bar or finish their conversation with other staff members while having a smoke (in the eating area).

There is no beach, just rocks and you have to get a taxi into town to get a decent beach (10 euros for a sunbed each - including children). We did have a fantastic holiday because it was hot, sunny, nice big pool and there was a really nice family taverna down the road which me and my partner went to every night. All the above didnt ruin our holiday because we didnt pay much but we wouldnt use that hotel again and wouldnt recommend it. There are nicer 3* hotels down the road. If you want a greek experience and a typical 3/4* holiday dont stay here... If your on a budget and just want a cheap holiday around the pool then do go here but get up at 7a.m to reserve a sun bed.

Oh and I just remembered the music... one c.d on loop ALL day! Western pop/hip-hop and the staff would turn it up on their breaks. One couple told us that just before we arrived they had to complain becuase they had a rap c.d on with swearing in and they had children, another example of the lack of a greek or cretian experience.

Where do I start? Considering that this hotel is only 2 years old it could do with a lot of maintenance work. Broken toilet seats and other bathroom fixings, shower hose split with head hanging off, tv aerial cable trailing across the room floor (in front of the stairs where it could quite easily be tripped over) and fed out through the window opening which means the window doesn't shut properly, gardens not mowed so weeds overgrowing pavements creating a haven for mosquito's and thats just the hotel buildings. The hotel is advertised as 'beach front' but the only access to the beach is from about 10 mins down the road where you will pay 5 euros for a sunbed on a dirty beach that does not look like it has been cleaned in some time!! Air conditioning is not included but depending on who you speak to the price for hire changes on a daily basis!! Meal times are 7.30 - 9.30, 1.00 - 2.30 and 7.00 - 9.30 during which times the bar only serves wine and beer, all other alcoholic drinks are only served outside of these times which, correct me if I'm wrong, does not constitute all inclusive (well not in any hotel I've ever stayed in). There is an extremely limited variety of food served which is poor quality and mostly cold. Whilst waiting for my transfer to come home I saw the staff putting the breakfast out ready for the following morning, this was at about 11pm which I don't think is particularly healthy when you see the amount of fly's that are around. The staff are not friendly and whenever I asked for service at the bar or some other assistance I was made to feel like I should apologise for putting them out!!!! Although I did not have small children I did meet a couple of families who did. The childrens pool is right next to a path that leads out to the front of the hotel and onto the very busy main road. There are not enough sunbeds so an early start is recomended. This is a very quiet area and the hotel makes no effort to provide any kind of entertainment except the pool table which costs 2 euro's. Because of this trips into Rethymnon are a must. Bus tickets are bought from the super market which is about 10 mins walk and are 1.20 euros each way. There is a go-kart track next door which is very noisy all day everday but somewhere to go of an evening although drinks are quite expensive. There is no holiday rep at this hotel either so no-one to complain to that might make an attempt to do something about it!! We were also told by a number of other guests that there things had been gone through and things had gone missing. When they challenged the manager his only response was that his staff would not do that!!

We tried to make the best of our week in Crete, and the weather was very good, but this is not a hotel I will be recomending to any of my friends. This is the first time I have booked with Olympic Holidays and I'm afraid it will be my last.

This holiday was sold to us by olyimpic as a 4 star hotel, we have stayed in 3 and 4 star all inclusve hotels in the past and this is by far the worst i would give it.. and this is being generous a 2star........... the food is repetitive every day was the same pork chop or pork kabab then folowed by a pork in tomatoe sauce which had holes in the pork were u could tell they had removed it from the pork kebabs the day b4 to make it served with dry pasta, chips, rice and the odd vegtable and instant smash . not much choice in salad and a bowl of apples or pears for the fruit choice. we ate out the odd night and we seen many people looking at the food and walking out.
The drink is locally produced wine spirit and beer you are charged for diet pop.
Rooms are clean and cleaner is in ever day changing bedding and towels, pool is nice and spacious but not enough sunbeds to go round so get up early if u want one.
nothing for kids to do apart from pool table which is 2 euro
Its the first time we have booked an olympic holiday and will be the last.
