We were not exactly disappointed, but all in all the monastery appeared as an old building similar to many more you see scattered all over Crete. Without a guide to share the stories of the place we we found ourselves wandering around the premises without really knowing what to notice and what was of less importance.
It was interesting, but I still want to rate it below my average experience in other places. What I found lacking was more information posted - which is also why I would recommend to go as part of a tour group.
I do want to mention that the drive to the monastery is magnificent - and the scenery is gorgeous!
