“First but not last holiday at the Aegean Pearl!!!!”
Reviewed 15 October 2011

The Aegean Pearl is a lovely hotel on the Beach Road in Rethymnon. On arrival we were shown to a large comfy sofa and offered a cool glass of juice to drink while we filled in the relevant checking in forms Our bags were then taken up to our room, which was clean and modern. The bathroom was a bit strange as it wasn't a separate room as such, it was separated from the sleeping area by a sort of partition. The loo was, however, enclosed!
Most beds in hotels are like concrete but at the Aegean Pearl the beds were surprisingly comfy. A good nights sleep is bound to be had! The rooms are serviced on a daily basis and clean towels were supplied every day.
There wasn't really much of a view from our balcony as it looked out over the restaurant area and the side of another block of rooms.
The food was plentiful and there was a good variety of dishes on offer throughout the week. All meals are buffet style. The restaurant staff were lovely, very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them.
The entertainment in the evening wasn't much to write home about except for the 'Greek Night' which was extremely energetic and entertaining and audience participation was the order of the day!
There weren't very many British guests at the hotel it seemed to be mainly German guests!
I'd recommend a nice leisurely stroll up to the 'Old Town' it's full of lots of little shops and restaurants. The cost of items and food in this part of town are alot cheaper than on the 'front'.
Our holiday in Rethymnon was really relaxing and enjoyable We would most definately go back again!!!!

This was our 3rd stay at Aegean Pearl (2nd this year) and as previously everything was excellent. Staff friendly / helpful / attentive. Room very good. Food - always excellent choice both breakfast and dinner. Hotel very clean. Car parking available. Own Blue Flag beach across road - use restricted at this time by poor weather(Red Flags etc). Wife liked fitness centre. Cold face towels and drink on arrival - nice. Hotel is located ~3 km from Rethymnon town - good walk along sea front. Some type of entertainment on most nights. We just really like this hotel. (n.b. 5 Star rating not as in England).

Room Tip: Need room overlooking bar / pool area or at front overlooking sea.

I had the same experience this summer as the previous reviewer. When we arrived at the Aegean Pearl we were informed that our room was overbooked and we must spend the first night at the neighbouring 'Pearl Beach' which is an older rather run-down 2 or 3* but part of the same complex. There is a significant price difference but the hotel refused to refund this and instead gave us 2x vouchers for buffet lunch at the 3* which we didnt think looked tasty so we did not use. When we informed out tour operator they said they had no idea about the overbooking; and that the hotel had not informed them as it should. The tour operator organised car-hire for us as compensation. When delivering the car he laughed and said : "So you guys had to say in the other hotel too ?" By which we concluded that we were not alone in having this experience at Aegean Pearl.

Regarding the accomodation itself : it is fine, though if you expect 5* you may be disappointed. If you go with an expectation of 3.5*, you will probably be satisfied. Some points on which the 5* (or even 4*) rating could be questioned: Common & shared facilities with the neighbouring 2/3*, such as pool, terrace area and bars; absence of a 24hr room service; no minibar in the room (it is empty) some issues with housekeeping, such as the bed-linnen changed only on 5th day and shower gel not refilled/ replaced thoughout the stay; general lack of knowledge of reception staff about the area, or reluctance to offer information; no explanation on arrival of the hotel facilities, no porter at main entrance to assist with baggage, alighting from taxis etc as one could expect at a truly 5* hotel.
That said, staff are pleasant and hotel is adequate, and anyone going with an expecation of a reasonable 3* will not be disappointed ( as long as they are not overbooked too) If you are overbooked and deported to the Pearl Beach hotel, do contact your travel agent or rep as soon as possible and ask them to address this with the hotel. Chances are they wont be aware of anything...

We stayed for 10 days in the Aegean Pearl hotel. The day of arrival was already an unexpected suprise as it seems that the hotel was overbooked and as compensation we had to stay one day in the 3 star rated Pearl beach hotel and we got 2 free lunches, the rest of the 9 days we could stay in the Aegean Pearl hotel. As you can understand it was not a great start of the holiday.

The good things about the hotel are:

- Nice modern rooms
- Nice lobby
- Good breakfast
- Friendly people
- Free WiFi internet

Things need improvement:

- Only on the day of arrival you get a bottle of water, the rest of the days nothing.
- The hotel is located just beside the 3 star Pearl Beach, you have to share the pool and bar.
- Very far outside the old town center, 40 min walk ( taxi is 5 euro )
- Dinner is very early between 19h-21h and is international food, almost no Greek food. So we used it only twice during our stay.
- Shower gel was not refilled during our stay.

The whole problem we had with this hotel that we didn't had the feeling we where in Greece and that its too far to walk to the old center. Its not a bad hotel but please be aware that if you are looking for a 5 star hotel, look for something else. If you can just book a room with breakfast and not the dinner, you can eat very cheap in close by restaurants ( appx 10-15 euro pp including wine )

Room Tip: Make sure that its not overbooked, dubbel check this.

My mother spent a nice week as the restaurant is good with fresh vegetables and food, the rooms are comfortable and nice and the beach is beautifull though if one favours fine sand beaches be aware that the beach is stranded with small stones you need to walk across before entering the water.
The swimming pool are ridicously small and overcrowded which is a pity as the sea is sometimes unswimmable for it may be dangerous due to weather conditions. But overall a good place at one week.

Relaxed and friendly perfect holiday location within easy reach of Rethymnon-bus ride in and 40 mins stroll back- refreshment stops if requred? Good beach opposite hotel-although rather difficult to enter water due to stones-sand shoes recommended- beach sun loungers free .Hotel and staff excellent..Entertainment most nights -could be better.Remember to take a pair of trousers for evening meals as shorts are not allowed-jeans are which is a shame? The only negative comment i would make would be about the pool-very small and open to the towel culture every day.Best of all if your looking for a cosmopolitan hotel look no further-hardly spoke to an english family the entire holiday-a joy for us.

If you want to go to a nice and fine hotel in Rethymno go to Sentido Aegean Pearl Hotel. This hotel is a good choise. This hotel is very new and the design is splendid. It is very modern and comfortable. This is a 5 star hotel. The staff is very friendly to all visitors. They take good care of you and they meet the customers in a very nice way.The athmosfere is very fine. The hotel area is very clean and there is a fine garden with many flowers and trees. Mainly every evening there are fine and high class music and dansing programs. There are 3 outside swiming pools and 1 inside swiming pool in connection to 2 saunas. You can also train gymnastics and order massage if you want. The location is good 50 meter from the beach and 50 minutes walk to the old city and to the nice venetian harbour. I will definitely return to this excellent hotel.
