I especially loved the sign pointing the way "To The Ancienteries".

Steep cobbled path down past the Byzantine tower down to footpath E4 and the Roman Cisterns. Great views and some amazing ancient olive trees. When we were there the Taverna was closed (mid April)

This place is difficult to get to and isn't really worth the time. It's not very well explained. The terrain is quite hard going and good footwear is recommended

Staggeringly scenic location, be sure not to miss the ancient rock cut cisterns on the left hand side of the citadel.

Hired a car and made our own way up there after visiting many other sites along the way.
There is a local "tourist train" that does the same trip around the sites, but easier to do it yourself and much more fun.Once you get out of the city the driving's so easy and relaxed.
We arrived late in the day on this occassion and the actual site was shut, however you can walk all the way around the perimeter and see everything.
Next time I'll leave earlier and enter the site.

In the Minoan Villa of Eleftherna recently new foundings brought an old golden mask above the earth.
With this the Villa became a major archaeological site on Crete and in a few years a new museum will be opened with al the small objects that where found here on show. Visit the place by rental car or take the yellow train which has the Eleftherna program in the summer once per week
