“The jewel in the crown of Rethymnon”
Reviewed 3 November 2013

I love this place. Visited twice, once in the morning and then a second time in the evening to catch the sunset and the evening light. It's open 8am to 8pm so you can stay until it gets dark although the ground is very uneven and lighting minimal. Very peaceful with lots of lovely places to sit quietly enjoying the sun or the evening light, and many nooks and crannies. The old mosque has a great accoustic - try a bit of singing, it sounds wonderful! The 360 degree views are excellent. Very atmospheric place. I wished I could get a season ticket for the week!
There is a little stall selling drinks and the main shop is an Aladdin's cave with some unique items in among the usual tourist tat. A good range of guide books and postcards. There was also an gallery with some interesting art on sale and I was able to buy some prints quite reasonably.

“Worth a visit.”
Reviewed 2 November 2013

Imposing fortress, worth a visit as quite a bit to see and offers great views. Perfect alternative to the beach if you fancy a change.

“Good views over the town.”
Reviewed 29 October 2013

The main reason for coming up here is for the views. The mosque is worth a look inside, however the rest of the site is rather boring and there is quite a lot of work in progress. However for the four euro entrance few its not bad value for money.

“Good view point”
Reviewed 25 October 2013

Offers spectacular views over all parts of the resort. Worth the entrance fee Euro 4 (I think). Hot-so recommend early or late visit.
Plenty of history.

“The Fort”
Reviewed 23 October 2013

It was interesting and at 3 euros for 'oldies' not expensive. The mosque was the only building open. Good views all round from the walls , also very noisy at times which turned out to be very large crickets in the trees.
