Very large and interesting place to visit. Lovely views across the bay. unfortunatley some of the rooms in the councillors house were still being renovated so we couldn't have a look around. We baked though in the 42 degree heat so make sure you take some water or buy a slush puppy on your way in from the kiosk over the way from the ticket office.

The Fortezza itself might not be an unforgettable place but the views at sunset will leave you speechless.

If you can, chose an evening when there's a concert, it's even better!

good renovations but you wont get the feeling it was touched. it is only 5 min walk from town center so there is no reason not to visit

You can't visit and Rethymnon and avoid to visit Fortezza. It is well preserved, the view from it over the city is excellent, while you can also attend a performance (theatre, music, etc), during the summer. Don't forget to pay a visit to the Archaeological museum close to the main entrance of the fortress. It's not very big, but it's quite interesting, especially if you are interested in the antiquities and haven't got bored of visiting archaeological sites.

On top of the hill this old fort is one of the oldest structures in Rethymnon. Great views of the sea, the city, and much more. Get the audio guide and your life will be easier.
