We as a couple arrived in 30degrees heat and clear blue skies. The hotel is sited 5 mins to the beach which a shuttle bus is run every hour. We were shown to our suite, which unfortunatly smelt heavily of cigarette smoke. We informed the reception and were quickly taken to another which was perfect . The hotel and pools were perfect and always clean and tidy. The room cleaning could do with improving as was not up to the standard of the rest of the complex. The breakfast and lunches were good but dinner could do with livening up a bit as very average. But the staff and person in charge of the Resturant were exceptional and always helpful. The beach with their shuffle bus is very good, clean, with a bar, pool and taverna and great to crash and people watch.
We would definatley return.

Dear Adrian S
“Glorious hotel in a quiet setting” such a great title. If sorry for the inconvenience you had with the first room, although I happy it was quickly fixed.

We are looking forward to welcoming you back to Rimondi Grand!

Kind Regards,

We have just returned from a 10 day break at the Rimondi.
Other reports have suggested the hotel is remote, and whilst I would suggest that to get the most out of your stay, a hire car is a must, the hotel is not in the back of beyond, but enjoys good views to the sea, and being at the top of a hill in a village, it is part of the appeal of the place. You can take the hotel courtesy bus to the beach, and get dropped off at the bus stop, to catch the 20 bus into town westwards, but remember to buy the bus ticket in the newsagents first. The hotel can also organise trips if need be.
The pool is clean and plenty of sunbeds around, although more brollies are needed.
The food is average, but typical Cretan food, the wine is excellent value, and very palatable.
With regard to the beach, again this has received some negative reports, it is a Cretan beach, with ample sunbeds, good value taverna, small pool if need be. The sea has a strong under current, not the place to swim for serious swimmers.
All in all a relaxing break and good value for money, would re visit in couple of years as the hotel's location is handy to reach other key spts of the island.

We have been there from September 6th til 13th.
The first day, we have had a bad news, we've had to change hotel because in ''our room'' some cables came out therefore there wasn't electricity. The receptionnist told us to stay 2 days in another hotel whic hshe showed us the pictures on Internet.Honestly we weren't really happy it was already late in the night and we've had to go back. So, we drove to the new hotel, we received a welcome drink and then they drove us to another hotel just in front of that amazing hotel where we stepped in the first place.
What a surprise !!! My companion was really mad, the room was clean but it wasn't the same category of hotel (for me 2 **)!! the beds were facing the wall and the TV (not a plasma) was next to our beds!!! so that meant to whatch tv, either you turn the TV next to u then you get a txwisted neck or the sit in the chairs which are facing the TV.
Our room were just next to a busy road we couldnt sleep atall. I called Rimondi hotel and told them that we don't want to stay a night there so the lady told me that she was going to talk to her manager.
We finally could get back to our ''initial' hotel in the afternoon.

The hotel is really nice and very quiet. A car is absolutly necessary. It's the place to be if you don't want to be in a crowed place and really relax and I really enjoyed it.
Not really the place to be with kids if I can say...The food was really poor, no diversity always the same, traditional greek meals were missing apart from that, the cupboard is quiet tiny for 2 people. No slippers and towels just for 2 !!Otherwise, waiter and waitresses were really nice and especially Mr Antonis who always giving advices where to go and what to visit. Very nice person and he's doing a great job and making people really confortable, thanks to him !
To finalize I will say that I spend a very good time in Rimondi Grand Resort, maybe in 2-3 years time I will come back why not...!

We stayed two weeks. Most previous comments are true, but, let's keep in mind that perceptions depend on your own expectations.

We were looking for a clean accommodation in a humane environment ; and we had exactly this.

Yes, rooms are big and clean. Upsides :
> Air conditioning works well as long as windows are shut (good point for earth-friendly education).
> Refrigerator is strong enough to freeze bottles of water.
> Maids are reactive. Anything missing is replaced easily.
> Guests have generally a good behavior, and are dressed correctly. Some rare persons were having lunch/dinner in sleeveless T-shirts and flip-flops, but the hordes of bad behaving foreigners are absent, and that's relaxing.

As for the downsides :
> Only one bathroom-toilet for a 2-room suite is clearly a design flaw. Mysteriously, the toilet on the ground floor was locked and used as a storage room for maids.
> The shower glass panel does not prevent water to spill all over the floor. So, extra towels are really needed.
> No curtain in the living room (ground floor) on the path side. No problem for us, but some were taping sheets on windows ...
> Wifi is temperamental. It's seemingly not really due to our geographical position, nor to the time of the day. Sometimes we could watch YouTube, sometimes we would have killed to be able to get this important e-mail.
> Only one key for a family of four (of which three grown-ups). Why keys are not card-type is a mystery for a new hotel. They are convenient and are not low-grade (Hilton are using them).

Private pool (if you have one) is small (4m x 3m) but very convenient for kids who can play under supervision until the very last second before shower time. No problem with privacy, and, it is cleaned everyday by a nice employee.
Public pool is not as big as it seems on photos. Deckchairs come in enough numbers (50 or so for a hotel capacity of 250 or so), as many guests go outside. We've seen some French reserving chairs, but, they quickly realized that it was not really necessary.
Pool towels can only be changed between 11AM and 7PM at the SPA. Not very convenient when you are out all day. Reception should handle this during off hours.

Yes, you need a car, otherwise, you'll get bored, … unless this is what you want. But, you'll miss all the marvelous ruins and fantastic beaches. (Ammoudaki and Agios Pavlos Sandhills are really recommended)
The so-called private beach is not worthy. First, there is no private beach in Greece by law. Second, sand and water are not great. And third, the shuttle (8-seater including the driver) has not always enough space, and is not always working ...

Yes, food is really average and doesn't change much. The restaurant is fitted like a canteen, with a portable CD deck spreading low-quality sound, but eating at the pool-side watching the sun set is really great.
Full board is absolutely not worthy.
The so-called "picnic bag" is a joke. We really did not understand why this had to be ordered before 8PM the day before, while it only takes 10min to make this lousy sandwich and wrap a couple of raw fruits.
For God sake, put more than two flavors of quality ice-cream. And, for breakfast, trash the industrial liquids, or, at least, have real fresh juices available, even with a fee.

Yes, service is very good ... as long as there is no problem. We realized that anything out of their expected scope created almost panic. It is indeed the first time that we heard "it is not our problem" shouted loud in front of other guests. To make it short, we were asking for a "breakfast basket" as we had to leave the hotel at 5AM to catch a 8AM flight. For WHATEVER reason, such a reply does NEVER fit a 4-star hotel.
Other than that, staff is generally willing. Too bad the above incident came on the last day ...

SPA is quite okay for an European one.

Bar : fantastic terrace with fantastic view, but we didn't go because we always came back late and rushed to have dinner (the buffet is emptied and closed 9:30PM sharp ...). We are not really fond of cheap amateurish animations, but, some live band or live piano would have been highly appreciated, and would have made us stay at the bar a couple of hours further into the night.

As a bottom line, sunny days and lovely places made our holidays unforgettable, and Rimondi definitively contributed.
The general impression is that huge efforts have been made to have a high quality hotel (crystal glass, marble floor, branded deck chairs, etc), but they are still short to a full 4-star level.

Do we recommend ? Yes. Definitively better than an outdated tourists-factory with smelly rooms. But, do not pay a 4-star price. For now.

My advice to the hotel management : please tour the hotels of other areas (Indian Ocean, South-east Asia, Caribbean, ...) and you'll realize that the devil is in the details.

Room Tip: Poolside apartments have no privacy, as the “balcony” is facing the restaurant. As there are many stairs, it would be wise to contact the hotel directly and warn them if you have any disability (wheelchair, baby-cart, etc).

My wife and I stayed here for two weeks fro mid-June on a half board basis. Our taxi driver was waiting at Chania airport (our transfers were included) and it took approximately just over 1hr to reach the hotel. We arrived at the hotel late afternoon and we were initially allocated a ground floor apartment. My wife had expressed a preference for a first floor one so we asked if we could change. The receptionist was very helpful and said we could move the following morning. Our new room (a one bed suite) was lovely, had two balconies at the front and rear and overlooked the Olive groves and gardens as well as across the complex to the hills and sea in the distance. We were a little unsure about the dining arrangements when we went down to the restaurant on our first evening and it would have been helpful if reception had explained the procedure. The waiting staff were always friendly and worked very hard trying to accommodate guests wishing to sit in the shade – especially at breakfast. During our stay a wine list was introduced which was good. We took advantage of the shuttle bus to the beach which was driven on one occasion by a very courteous South African gentleman who was a member of the management. We always take our aqua trainers to Crete so we had no worries negotiating a stony shoreline when entering the sea. Do be careful of the undercurrent at the beach which on certain days can be strong. We enjoyed the buffet style meals although it would have been helpful if labels had explained what was under the metal covers. We hired a car and explored the area and unless you are happy to stay around the pool (the infinity pool was the best we have ever been in as it was an even depth along its length) or go down to the beach then it is highly recommended as there are a lot of things to see in the area and further afield. During our stay, an on-site shop opened selling newspapers, sun tan lotion, water etc. The spa looked fabulous but as my wife had suffered a nasty shoulder injury earlier in the year she was advised not to have any of the treatments on offer.
Overall the hotel is improving all the time. The terrace furniture and all the fixtures and fittings are of a very high quality and as a professional photographer I've attached quite a few images of the hotel. We would stay at the Rimondi Grand again if in that part of Crete although we would probably go B&B as we always like to explore the tavernas in the area.
