Terrific little hotel in the middle of old reythemnon town!! The cafe in the front is terrific and many sights and restaurants are a short walk away.
This is a wonderful hotel with a court yard feel!

While there are so many great hotels in reythmenon, this was certainly tops in terms of coziness and feel. Well worth the price!!

Pepi studios is the perfect little base camp for people like us who like to explore the local area and restaurants and not eat boring hotel food!

Right in the heart of the old town, which has some wonderful little shops, restaurants and bars and there's always another street to discover! Beaches a 5-10 minute walk away, not the greatest beach in the world, but there is sea and sand and it's hot!

Room was lovely, spotless and cleaned every day. Kitchen seemed to be well equipped although we never actually cooked. Staff were friendly and helpful enough. The pool area is very pretty and always somewhere to sit- the pool is tiny, but more than big enough for a quick cool off. If you want to swim, I guess it wouldn't be for you.

Breakfast in The Bistro was nice and certainly generous portions. Continental breakfast so bread, meat, cheese, coffee and freshly squeezed juice. Service was variable- some days run like clockwork, other days incredibly slow. One day we sat for 40 minutes before even being acknowledged - we complained and the waiter was downright rude to us. That was the only thing to spoil an otherwise lovely holiday.

I should perhaps set the scene to explain our lovely trip to Crete. After a horrible few months, losing my Mum in March and having to deal with the fallout of that, we got permanent residency approved for NZ. We arrived in Crete a day after 2 days of packing up the house, selling the cars, finding a new temporary home for the cat etc etc... some not inconsiderable amount of stress you can perhaps imagine. Crete was to be the beginning of our rather pompously titled 'grand Europe tour'! On arrival at around 10pm reception wasn't staffed but there was a polite note saying the key was in the door for us. We got settled in. Went for a couple of beers and then retired to bed. We had asked for a double but only got a twin room... But not to panic.

The following day I was physically exhausted so didn't do a lot and then ended up sleeping 14 hours straight, the last few months had caught up on me and every limb felt heavy.

The day after was lovely but when it came to bed time I realised just how much I was in pain from the springs pushing through the mattress, especially into my hips. Honestly, the basic rooms are clean, have great facilities, but if you are at all prone to bad back/neck etc please just book a superior room!

After asking if they had another bed the lovely gentleman who runs the facility very well upgraded us to a superior room with a bed that is as good as the one we have at home. So we are in the lucky position of being able to review both the basic and the superior in one review. The superior room was very lovely, with a glass shower cubicle ( I note the comment from another reviewer saying the shower curtain in the basic bathroom can block the plug and stop the water draining away causing an overflow, this is very true!)

Pepi Studios have a fab location, great friendly service and lovely rooms, a great place to stay. We even got a free extension so we could check out late as our plane to Bergamo wasn't until 9.20pm so that was very welcome as it gave us an extra day of much needed relaxation. As I type we are in Lake Garda and I will post a review of our hotel here ASAP.

Room Tip: Go superior if you have a bad back

we have stayed at the Pepi Studios before (4 times) last time was 5 years ago. since then the Pepi has added a small bistro where an old shop used to be this has added yet more attraction to this very special little hotel. its location is great just about 2 mins walk from all the eating places you could wish for. the rooms are clean and well looked after.I was a little concerned as this time we had our 16 month old granddaughter with us but this made no difference. The only problem was we only stayed for a week could have done 2 easy. there are no childrens activities or gym so I reted them as average.

We've just returned from a fantastic holiday at the Pepi Studios. Our room (3) had a high ceiling, plenty of room, masses of storage space (including a lot of coat hangers, very rare in most places), was well equipped, and was kept spotlessly clean by the two lovely cleaning ladies. The air conditioning was efficient and virtually silent, and there was a (free) electronic safe.

There were a few minor drawbacks, such as the hard beds and the tendency of the shower tray to overfow, but nothing that detracted from the holiday. The bathroom window looked directly onto two air conditioning outlets - they weren't noisy, and kept the bathroom beautifully warm.

Breakfast was very pleasant, but it must be admitted that a little variety would be appreciated - maybe a surprise as to what kind of cold meat or jam / marmalade you were going to get. However there were always the options of an omelette or fruit salad instead (or English as an extra for a small charge). The coffee, tea and fresh orange juice were always very refreshing.

Despite being just off the main street, it was always quiet in the studios, as well as on the loungers and seats spread around the lovely garden area (orange, lime and unidentified trees). There was never any problem finding free loungers or seats. And, once you sit or lie down, everyone passing stops for a friendly chat. Most of the guests during our stay were British, and all were very nice.

Within a minute of leaving the studios you're in the shops and restaurants of the Old Town, or a couple of minutes to the ones stretching along the seafront. There are a couple of reasonable sized supermarkets within a few minutes walk (opposite the Hotel Fortezza, or through the Porta Guora and turn left) as well as a small "market" , turn left on Arkadiou, which stocks water, etc., for a few cents more.

We arrived just after midnight, so we went out about 1am to find somewhere for a drink. The bar by the Rimondi fountain was still serving, as were quite a number of the restaurants around there. It was still very warm, and there were still a number of people enjoying a stroll. (I should think going for a drink in a UK town at 1am on Saturday might be a different experience.)

Because the Studios doesn't sell alcohol, you have to bring your own in, and can then drink it lying on a sunbed - very civilised. There's a pleasant wine, red and white, which you can buy in tall, square cartons for around €2.80 a litre. Also you can buy very nice retsinas at around €1.33 for 50cl.

All in all, an exceptionally pleasant holiday, which we found very relaxing. The fact that we've stayed in the Ideon in the past (four holidays) but now prefer the Pepi is absolutely no reflection on the Ideon. In fact, we twice went there after dinner for a coffee and glass of their excellent house red.

The only problem now is that the Studios seems to have disappeared from next year's Thomas Cook brochure - whatever dates I put in, the Pepi doesn't appear. Still, we could always book independently - EasyJet flights next May/June are just over £100 return at the moment.

A completely faultless holiday at Pepi Studios. The most helpful reception service I have ever experienced not to mention the high standard of the cleaners and restaurant staff. Each member of staff were very helpful and extremely friendly. The Manager, Iosif, is always available, who speaks excellent English, and offers great help and advice about the the city of Rethymno.

The room was perfect, the interior lived up to our expectations regarding the pictures that were displayed on the website, the room was always cleaned daily, air con, tv, and wifi worked perfectly.

Opting for the breakfast with our package was the best idea as the portions were generous and catered to most needs for example, hot breakfast and cold with a wide range of drinks available.

Location was right up our street in the way of quite but at the same time right in the middle of where everything was in Old Town, a seconds walk from the hustle and bustle of the old town streets but yet hidden away down a side street made it even more ideal.

Highly recommend - just not through ThomasCook.

Room Tip: The downstairs rooms are mostly superior - this we would highly recommend.

We stayed in Pepi Studios in July, having booked a package holiday with Thomson Holidays. We had been to Rethymnon during which we spotted Pepi Studios. We liked its location and decided to book Pepi Studios when we were planning our return visit.

The location, right in the middle of the pretty town of Rethymnon makes for a relaxing holiday. Our deal included breakfast in Bistro 22, located at the entrance to Pepi Studios. Each day breakfast was served by very friendly staff, the food was excellent and the setting quiet and relaxing.

Our studio was located on the first floor and was really quiet, so sleeping was never a problem! We had a balcony so we could sit out before going out to eat at night.

Maria in reception was pleasant at all times and very helpful.

The location of Pepi Studios is central and therefore close to an array of great restaurants. The beach is approx. 15 minutes walk away. All in all, yes we would recommend Pepi Studios.
