Well I'v seen better and vorst hotel then this one. Any way we had no intention to spend time in hotel. To many things to do in Crete. So food was ok, room was ok, location is good for trips with rented car. Would recomend for some one who is going to travel a lot. Not sure if I would recomend it for "all inclooded travelers".

Was there from 12th August till 19th August 2012. Average hotel, but quiet. Close to the sea. Below average hospitality, some staff ok, some not, below average services. All inclusive was full board at best, total lack of drinkable water, strictly limited. It seems like owner of the hotel is on cost cutting path, save mostly on guests ... Positive moment is WIFI and LAN available at hotel.

Shaby, worn out, dirty rooms. Old furniture, uncomfortable beds. Food was the same every day. Staff unhelpful and unfriendly. The guests mainly from post soviet countries. The hotel is not worth the money.

On arrival was pleasantly surprised by the size and cleanliness of the room. We had air conditioning at no extra cost and great modern bathroom facilities! Excellent shower which I have found to be a rarity on previous holidays.
Location of hotel is nearby a long stretch of shops, restaurants although the area was quite quiet. Also rethymon easily accessible by bus costing €1.20 each way and return taxis €7-10.
Hotel pool was quite small but never overpacked during our stay, mostly empty although could never get a sunbed by pool! This did not bother us as hotel right on the beach.
We had a great holiday and I'd happily return, for us great value for money, although did not eat in hotel restaurant other than breakfast!
Am surprised by negative reviews, I had an entirely pleasant stay!

A fantastic hotel with a lovely pool and beach.
We stayed at the Jo-An Beach for a fortnight with our two daughters aged 3 and 5. We were very impressed by the hotel and its surroundings. We specifically searched for a two bedroomed apartment and were very pleased with the layout of the large rooms, especially the living area with settee, armchair, table and chairs. We were on the ground floor with a patio area with chairs and a table, near the play park which was ideal for our daughters. The self catering facilities weren't great for cooking meals but we had no intention of doing that and only wanted to prepare lunch in the room.
The pool is small but we were aware of that, having read reviews before we travelled. Nevertheless, it was big enough for us as none of us wanted to plough up and down like an olympic swimmer! Our youngest threw away her arm bands and taught herself to swim in the pool so she thought it was fantastic! It was big enough for a few lilos and excellent for cooling off. We didn't manage to get loungers around the pool in the mornings but discovered that most of the all-inclusive guests disappeared for lunch so we tended to spend the mornings on the beach and then headed up to the pool around 1pm where we always manged to get loungers. The loungers directly in front of the hotel are charged at €2.50 each but if you move down the beach to the right (as we did) we had loungers for the rest of the holiday for free - whether they came to collect the money in the afternoon we don't know as we were happily sitting around the pool by then.
The beach is part sand, part shingle but the sea is very rocky with ridges which cannot be seen when the sea gets a bit choppy so we would recommend beach shoes which are readily available in the local supermarkets - this would have saved us various bumps and scratches to our feet!
The hotel is slightly away from the main stretch of restaurants which is about a 15 minute walk. All the places we ate were fantastic with the best being The White Lady. We also enjoyed a couple of meals in a restaurant called Remember, opposite the White Lady. The two restaurants were chalk and cheese, with the White Lady being loud and busy, with Greek dancing and plenty of fun while Remember was serene and classy. We loved both!
Opposite the hotel is a good taverna called Levantes and we enjoyed two good meals in there when we didn't want to walk too far! There was also a good supermarket where we bought beers, soft drinks and everything we needed for a light lunch. We also ate lunch at the pool bar and found the food to be of a high quality and reasonably priced.
Breakfast in the hotel was great - there was plenty of choice and we all ate well. Try not to look at the plates of some of the other guests - we saw chocolate spread, cheese and cucumber all being piled on together!
There weren't many English guests at the hotel and we were certainly in the minority. It was quite refreshing and we were soon on nodding terms with many of the Eastern European guests.
The only downside was that the number of all-inclusive hotels seems to be killing off the bars and tavernas in the area just around the Jo-An Beach, hence the longer walk into the main strip of restaurants and tavernas, although this was only a problem for us as we have a very lazy 3 year old whose legs hurt when she's asked to walk further than 100 yards!
Overall, an excellent holiday and we would love to go back..

I used Travel supermarket to find us the right resort and hotel. We looked at 4 star hotels and higher only and were delighted to find a Apartment Hotel to cater for the family needs. The rooms were described as comfortably furnished with satellite TV and air conditioning. We also booked a cot for our 6 month old.

How disappointed can one be at arrival. The hotel was nothing liked described and certainly does not reflect a 4 star rating. perhaps 2 would have been more appropriate. The apartment was very basic, BBC world news only on the satellite TV and not at all comfortably furnished. The pillows on the beds were unbelievably hard. Made of the same stuff the mattresses where made of believe it or not. It was at least clean though. There was however no cot as requested and despite my travel documents showing the specific request the hotel insisted that they were not aware that we needed one. However, a cot was swiftly provided, but unfortunately for my 6 mnth old, it was broken. The hotel did not accept that it was broken and gave us a few towels to pad out the hard travel cot framing.

We booked our holiday on a half board basis. Therefore bed and breakfast and evening meals. This does not include any drinks for anyone who cares. Not even soft drinks or water. We had to pay cash at the table for the drinks. You could not even book it to your room to pay when checking out. Staff was sent chasing after guests for money to cover drinks. How embarissing.

Now, if your plan is to go to Greece and only eat salads, then the food will be fine for you. However, if you want something else you will be bitterly disappointed as just about everything offered on the buffet was poorly prepared and not edible. Even the calamaris was over fried to a hard crispy chip and the avocado was brown, hard and tasted of wood. We abandoned the hotel food after the first night and found a delightful taverna directly across the road which with it's staff was possibly one of the very few highlights of our holiday.

The facilities provided by the hotel also left much to be desired. The kids playground was quite simply not safe even by our fairly relaxed attitude. My 3 year old's words, "that is just a rubbish playground daddy". If it was not broken, it was not safe. The pool was the size of a postage stamp and the kids section again was not appropriate.

The beach was very rocky, but a short walk to the west had a lovely blue flag beach. In front of the correctly 5 star rated Rethymnon Beach Hotel.

The internet corner, which really is just the corner in the hotel reception was very expensive. 1 euro buys you 15 minutes.

Our lasting impression, WHAT A RIP OFF!!!!

Anyway, I hope you read this and take it to hart before you book your family holiday at Jo-An Beach Hotel. I read a few reviews and found one that was particularly negative. I thought that this was probably just a grumpy old so and so, but there you go, it was the only review that was actually entirely accurate.

PS. This hotel does not have any parking at all. Not even for taxis, so keep that in mind when you book your car / transport.
