What a wonderful villa and owner.
It took a little bit of finding as we didn't have a satnav (when you come of the E75/VOAK and at the first T junction, go right - don't take the Amari road). The Villa Dimitra signpost/Chromonastiria is visible on a wall. Follow the winding road (8kms) and when you get to the village, there are again signs for the Villa. The Villa is accessible through a small tunnel; be careful about the size of your car. We had a fiat panda and had to take care. Gregory met us at the house and gave us the tour - it's a beautiful villa that he used to live in. We also were offered the local apero, and a berry version made by his wife, which was delicious.
The tripadvisor and villa website accurately reflect the quality of the accommodation but what made it for us was the personal touch. We were the first guests of the season, so it was still a bit cool of an evening. The house has a fireplace and after speaking to Gregory, a bin load of wood arrived and we had a lovely fire going to take away the evening chill.
The two downstairs rooms have a comfy double/ two singles with spare blankets. Each bed has one pillow and there is a large and small towel left on each bed (2 for the double).
The pool is unheated, but the weather was in the 20's most days, so once you'd got used to it, the pool was lovely for a swim.
Unusually, but another plus was the cleaning of the villa; this is done on a wednesday and a saturday, as is the pool. It's also included in the price.
We ate in the Villa for the whole fortnight we were there - there's a Lidl and Inka supermarket in Rethymno, so we could stock up on all of the food requirements, and the cooking facilities were grand. We felt like we got the use of all of the amenities that the house had to offer - we would have breakfast on the terrace/garden table just outside of the kitchen, lunch at the poolside table and dinner at the dining table - all with lovely views/surroundings. There was also a very large flat screen TV, the DVD player, Wifi and a Wii with a couple of controllers and nunchucks and a Wii sports game, although we'd taken our own DVD's and Wii games.
We had a fantastic holiday, make all the better by this wonderful owner and the comfort/quality of the Villa, not to mention the great weather (which can be tricky in early April). It's five stars from us and we can't recommend this highly enough.
