“When God met the Aegean Sea”

Reviewed 8 July 2014

The best view offered to the deep blue Aegean Sea. Yuo can admire the roughness of the Aegean and the calmness as the only sound you hear is the one of the wind. The monastery on the inside does not offer something in particular. Just the picture of Panagia Hozoviotissa which came from Palestine during the iconoclast dispute aroud the 9th century. This is the place that the famous Odysseas Elytis wrote "Axion Est" according to the locals. A view that you will never forget. The climbing will take 7-10 minutes if you run fast (we tried to beat our record as this is our third time there) or around 20-30 minutes if you want to take your time and enjoy the view as well. Please be reminded that the monastery is closed between 1pm and 5pm.

Worth of a every step you take! Long trousers are not accepted for a female, they still have some clothes to borrow. Monks offer a liquer and sweets for every guests in a charming "salon". Enjoy!

The monastery is built on the rock of the mountain, you go up the stairs and you reach after couple of minutes at the monastery with the wonderful view to compensate you for the "climbing", the people of the monastery are really friendly and the place is great they offer a sweet and raki with honey. we took great pictures of the scenery which is unique. It is worth to go once, but where trousers the men and long dress he women (they also give in the entrance in case that people go with summer clothes). Try to go early in summer period as it gets really warm after 11-12 o'clock

A unique place to be, an experience you won't forget. Don't miss it! It's worth every step of it. Don't be afraid of the stairs, just choose an afternoon visit when the sun won't be on top of your head and the climbing to the monastery will be easier. We enjoyed the view at every step and the treat afterwards in the monastery!

Amazing view, friendly monks.
They will give you Psimeni [Amorgos traditional liquor] and some sweets at the end of the visit.
Women must wear modesty clothing.
