An amazing 6 day self-guided hiking experience.

We stayed in Hora, since Dryopida Mansions have not been completed yet. There are a variety of hill hikes that typically lead you through historic donkey paths, past farms and purple valleys, to beaches that are completely empty and private (in May - pre-season). Nigel Tutt's hiking guide and the Kythnos hiking map was very useful in the self-guided hike experience, and pretty accurate as the wind does not leave sign-posts up in some places.

For the caffeine addicts under you, be sure to plan stops where there are known open cafes, as several days the search was epic, yet unsuccessful for a cup.

Be sure to take enough water, as the steady rise and fall of the paths and the need to walk stone paths do require fair hydration.

The hikes are easy to early medium in terms of difficulty and the swimming really cools one down at the half-way points. Routes 1,2,4,5,6,9 are all good, and well structured. A quick tour through a honey farm is also interesting.

A visit to the Dryopida Folk museum also gives interesting insight into the island's history and people.

Nigel showed us a nice selection of local foods by hopping us into various restaurants every evening. Altogether, the week felt too short. Highly recommended for hikers and swimmers, lovers of food.

A wonderful three day hiking holiday on the beautiful Greek island of Kythnos, with an excellent and highly knowledgeable local guide. The terrain was fairly easy going, with lots of archaeological sites and areas of natural beauty to see. Stunning scenery and great organization. They also pick you up from the ferry port, put you in a lovely local B&B and arrange all meals. Highly recommended, especially if you like walking, scenery and culture.

This island is a fantastic combination of a wild nature and transparent blue sea. Nigel Tutt, our guide, was MORE THAN FANTASTIC and carefully guided us through all different paths, via the mountains and the seaside, with amazing sunsets and lovely Greek people. If you like the sea and want to awake your body with long walks, this is a must for escaping from stress, hard work loads and crazy city life! One week of paradise, YES, YOU CAN! BOOK IT :)

Really enjoyed this holiday. The walks were interesting on old donkey paths and footpaths, some a little more challenging than others, but a reasonable level of fitness is all that is required. Being out in the open countryside with amazing views was just lovely. The knowledge imparted by our guides, Nigel and Katerina, was excellent. A great experience.

A great walking holiday for reasonably fit Grecophiles. Katerina, who led most of our walks, is a native Kyhnian with in-depth knowledge of the history of the island and a passion for Kythnian life. Nigel, who makes everything possible, is a kind and adaptable host, who turned up exactly when he said he would. We enjoyed seeing the landscape, traditional villages and archaeology and eating the varied Kythnian food with Nigel in tavernas carefully selected by him. Nigel has more walks listed in his book than we had days to do them on this organised holiday, so we hope to return before long. Oh, and the empty beaches are also lovely!
