This used to be one of our favourite tavernas in the Greek islands and we have also made a point of visiting it at least once on our numerous visits to Sifnos. We were not disappointed on our most recent visit. The taverna is beautifully located just above a narrow stretch of beach with a lovely view of the bay, the sea and Chrysopigi monastery. The traditional Greek food is always very good and fish is a speciality. Although one or two menu items are a bit less value for money than other excellent Sifnos restaurants (a Greek salad, for instance, was €6.30), the great location mostly compensates for this. The fresh swordfish that we had with oven potatoes was excellent – not for the first time - and it was very reasonably priced at €12.80 given the portion size. We have also had excellent fresh tuna before.

The main drawback this time was that, being that it was the end of August, it was a bit busy. Also we missed the lovely lady who had served us on some of our previous visits. The waiter who took our order could have had more personality and a more welcoming attitude. We fully intended going back for a second lunch there but we were waylaid by the excellent Water and Salt in Plati Yialos and we went back to eat there a second time instead. In the past I would normally have given this restaurant a score of 5. This visit I felt it was worth about 4.4 hence my overall rating of 4.

The pictures that I attached are of the view from the taverna and when it was much quieter. On one occasion there was a baby goat in the tavern and it had a rest on a tree trunk before coming to lie underneath or table at our feet.

Tips – When going to Apokofto and Chrysopigi we generally take the Plati Yialos bus and walk the 10 or 15 minutes down from the bus stop. Tell the driver or ticket person that you want the stop for and Chrysopigi. After eating at the taverna we walk round on the really nice path to Faros – that takes about 30 minutes and get the bus back from there. Though Apokofto bay looks really nice it can be a bit difficult getting into the water because of the rock shelf. You could leave a swil until the first bay you come to at Faros.
