“very nice hotel and on the best greek island”
Reviewed 16 April 2014

First of all pick up and drop off transfer from ferry was arranged before our stay. The hotel is family owned and that's exactly the friendly vibe you get when staying there - greek charming and relaxed attitude. The owners have lots of recommendations for dinning and activities. We had the best greek salad just down the road and some fabulous sweet deserts also in walking distance. The rooms are clean and very spacious. Ours had views of the garden/pool area and the beach. The pool area is a sweet spot and the beach pure tranquility. Chora - the islands biggest town - the most beautiful place I have ever seen in Greece. The whole island is like the best hidden secret of Greece. Don't miss up on going there.

We came to this hotel by chance some 10 years ago. And we kept coming back and again, although reaching Astypalia can be cumbersome (long ferry ride, few plane seats). But this place is so nice, simple, natural and comfortable, that it keeps us coming back. All the family gets a summer appointment there. The hotel is great, comfortable, with a very warm and personnal welcome, And this island is a rough beauty, with dirt roads in deserted hills, wild landscapes. We will be back again.....

Absolutely perfect in every way. The family that runs this place are so pleasant, hospitable, friendly and obliging in every way. The restaurant in the hotel is outstanding, the rooms are big and clean and the entire premises is very well maintained. The beach is located just across from the hotel in case you prefer that to the pool and bar in the hotel.
The food is up there, as one of the best we've had on our entire holiday, far better than most restaurants we've eaten at. Quiet peaceful location yet close enough to the main town.
Certainly a 'must stay place' if you are ever in Astypalea.
We and our friends that stayed here would return here in a heartbeat.

I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel in early July, which is not such a chaotic time for the island. Located in the Maltezana village, this beach is separated from a beautiful beach by the narrowest of roads.

This is a family-run property and nothing is too much trouble for any of them. My room was very well priced, spacious with a simple and very neat bathroom. The pool is nice but with so many amazing beaches on the island, why sit by the pool?

This island has a lot going for it, and the independent traveller will enjoy both this hotel's location and the entire island. Mble Limanaki (a small cove) is located a short walk away from the hotel and is a MUST SEE.

The cafe next door (Lemoni) is also fantastic and I had breakfast and coffee there each day. There is also a great sweet shop (Glykatzidiko) near by with superb and fresh sweets.

Personally I might choose to stay in the Chora (the main township settlement) in the future, but I would not hesitate to recommend Maltezana Beach Hotel.

Don't know that I can improve on the great reviews, but here are a few observations. The family that owns the hotel is VERY concerned with your experience. On one night, they took us to Greek dancing at the local school, followed by a visit to Chora. Another day they asked if we would like the local fish and went to the market and bought it, cooked it with local veggies and salad. This was a real treat. The beach of the bay, as well as the next bay, are outstanding. The family that owns the hotel is very considerate. The grandson went to school in New York, which is a great thing, but his local side is great. Pool is fabulous. I was a bit tired of the usual hard greek beds (even in 5 star hotels), but found the beds just right. We could not recommend the hotel more highly. I might add that I am used to 5 star hotels (Ritz etc), but was quite happy. I might add that I did not fully appreciate the local place called Sweets mentioned by the owner. They are great and around the corner. Worth a visit.

Excellent service, spacious and clean rooms, wide sea view. Very good garden with aromatic plants. The island is fantastic, many crystal clear beaches. Ideal for hot days with a constant Aegean breeze.
