We stayed here for 6 nights in early May 2014 and we very impressed! In fact we couldn't fault it at all - from the quality of the accommodation, the superb breakfast, the friendly owner (Ioannis), the glorious views over the bay, the quietness and the proximity to the town.

We enjoyed our stay, with the advantages far outweighing the (relatively minor) disadvantages:

Advantages: great view, deep swimming pool. Good breakfast with handmade jams, local honey etc. and a daily special e.g. cheese pie or yoghurt with fruit. Friendly staff. Very quiet. Decent sized room for three adults; previous reviewers have complained that it is quite dark; whilst this is true, it does keep the room relatively cool (alongside air con and ceiling fan combination). Location is convenient for the chora and kastro and has the best view of any hotel we saw on the island. Limited parking is available; turn right downhill by the windmills nearest the kastro then immediately left again.

Disadvantages: tiny shower room. Not much privacy on the balcony if other guests were sitting round the pool. Surfaces were quite cluttered.

The hotel was relatively expensive compared to others we have stayed at in recent years, however we would still stay there again if we return to Astypalia

Room Tip: We stayed in traditional maisonette 12 (see photos), in the middle of the run of rooms overlooking t...

A very quite and sweet boutique hotel in a nice location with great views, especially from the swimming pool area. Hotel is very close to the town and to bars and restaurants and has a small parking area, which is good for the Chora, but not enought if all the guests have their own cars.
Room equiped with a handy kitchenette and has been cleaned and refreshed twice during the day.Towels were changed twice every day, if needed and they were whiter than milk and smelled divine.Bed was very comfortable.
Bathroom was quite small with no ventilation and no breakfast was included in the price which all the boutique hotels usually do at no extra charge.

I ve been 3 times in Astypalaia island, however first time at this hotel...and i regret to admit that the previous time, things (at other hotels) were a bit better..
Generally:

UP : 1)nice location and great view ,specifically from the pool area
2)Very friendly staff, especially the boy and the girl who works there
3)Well equipped room with all the necessary staff inside..althought too over crowded with old furniture (but it is the whole concept of the "boutique style" hotel)

DOWN : 1) Tiny bathroom with "broken" things inside, that does not fit to a four star hotel
2) Quite dark room...(Room entrance door is the veranda s door and there is not other exit door in the room.
3) no buffet-like breakfast..Although its quality was good (hand made food) ..,it was quite poor with no variety.
4)Cleaningness just ok (not that detailed)

Room Tip: I think that there is quite a big difference as far rooms are concerned...Ask for a bright room wit...

My sister and I have travelled to many Greek islands and have stayed in some wonderful places over the years but the Kilindra is one of the top hotels we have visited.
Each unit is individually styled with distinctive furnishings and arranged so that each has their own private terrace area and full sea views. We were in studio 17 on the lower level of the hotel, which had a lovely terrace area overlooking the bay and a separate area for drying towels and swimming things. The Kilindra is located on the edge of the Hora and so it is convenient for restaurants and shops. In front of the studios there are no other buildings to obscure the beautiful sea view.
The pool area is gorgeous with comfortable sun beds, amazing views and the pool is cleaned every day.
The best thing about this accommodation, however, is the hospitality, friendliness and service provided by Ioannis and his staff. Nothing was too much trouble and he was very keen to make sure that we had everything we needed and some things we didn't realise we needed - a complimentary glass of wine by the pool one day and a free liqueur another evening - we must have looked thirsty! :) The hotel is very clean and we were provided with fresh towels every day. The hotel also provided bathrobes and slippers in the rooms, which is a small thing but just shows how the owner is prepared to go the extra mile to make his guests comfortable. I cannot fault this wonderful property or the service that we received.
Thank you again, Ioannis for a wonderful holiday and we hope to see you again very soon!

We visited the Kilindra studios in early June 2013 and had a wonderful holiday. We regularly visit the Greek islands and can honestly say that this was one of the best places that we have stayed at. We were made to feel so welcome and our every need was catered for. The views were magnificent, the beds were very comfortable, the pool was idyllic and the breakfasts were an absolute treat. We highly recommend and will be going back.

Rough Guide, Lonely Planet and Cadogan Guides all rate the Kilindra Studios as the best accommodation in Astpalaia, and I have no reason to disagree with them. I agree totally with the comments from the last three reviewers - steveo56, OXenos_12 & Dakis - and can only compliment Lemis Ioannis on providing such an excellent, efficient and friendly service
