“not what you would expect”

previous reviews rave about this place quite why we do not understand.
we have just spent 2 weeks there and we expected a lot more for the amount we paid ...110 euros per night.
To be fair we new the location before we went having been to halki several times before but what we didnt realise was the total lack of sun on the balcony which as stated is large. this meant that by 12 oclock you were in total shade. we then had to walk to the beach and get sunbeds which is not what we do.
that aside the large room was dirty, The kitchen was old and filthy, the cooker was a disgrace and hadnt been cleaned for ages, there were rat droppings under the sink and it smelt musty. if you left the slightest thing on the worktops it was covered in ants within minutes.
wardrobe space was a joke and we ended up laying our clothes out on the bed in the spare bedroom .
the sleeping arrangements are whats known as traditional which means in the main room you have to go up some very steep stairs and the bed is on a mezzanine above which sounds quaint but in reality is a nightmare. no way would older people go up and down those very steep wooden stairs , we were struggling and if you had to get up in the night to go to the loo half asleep it was simply dangerous plus you were wide awake by the time you had gone across the courtyard to the toilet.
because we slept so high up it was red hot at night and the only aircon was a portable ronson unit which was that noisy you coudnt sleep so that meant keeping all the rear doors and windows open to get some air through . that resulted in all the noise from the port down below keeping us awake , boats come and go all night.
the floor upstairs still had drink stains all over it and hadnt been cleaned and we only had a cleaner once in the whole two weeks . when we asked panos the owner why, he said there was a washing machine and a hoover so you can do it yourselves.
we contemplated staying in the courtyard bedroom until we lifted the mattress and several earwigs ran off .
yes its a big old traditional villa with a fantastic view but if we return we will be staying either on the sunny side of the harbour not the dark side or back down on ftenagia beach (despite the walk) in the houses down there.
for what we paid it was a total let down and we have returned more worn out than when we went .

It does not seem to me as a fair review David... and I do not understand why you wrote such a mean review with exagerations and untruth. But we will take into consideration all your comments and we will try to improve ourselves even more

“Simply the best”
Reviewed 3 July 2016 for a stay in June 2016

We stayed in Panos's beautiful villa for two weeks at the beginning of June and can honestly say we have never stayed in somewhere quite so perfect. From the stunning views out across the harbour to the mountains with the village below, and seaward looking the other way towards Rhodes, to the soaring vaulted ceiling and relaxing home-from-home feel of the sitting room and kitchen, and the outside courtyard with its flowers and plants, we felt we were spending our holiday in the kind of place we would have dreamed up for ourselves....but it was real! Panos was kind enough to meet us from the ferry and have our luggage transported to the house. He was an attentive host via email but never intrusive, even dropping off some eggs for us one day and leaving them outside of the gate. We have stayed on Halki before and we love this place. It is peaceful and relaxing, and the local people invariably welcoming and friendly. We hope to return many times and Villa Polyxeni will be our number one choice from now on. Thank you Panos.
