We booked the Polina on a last minute week break; therefore we were expecting the worst!!! We didn't see any pictures or info before we booked so we didn't know what to expect, so here is a list of the good and bad points we found from staying at the Polina....
The apartment was very clean, beds were changed daily (except Sundays), toilet roll replaced daily, overall cleanliness could not be faulted. We were not disturbed by the cleaners at all during our stay, they always came in when we were out even if we slept in late.
The location was brilliant, only 10-15 min walk to Kos town/Marina and a five min walk to the thin pebbly beach that surrounds Kos town. Loads of restaurants/food shops/pharmacies and banks near by. Bar street and the ruins/bus stops ect all about 20 mins away and its a lovely walk.
There is a bar in the hotel, loads of english people (if thats your thing) as it's a Thompson hotel, there is air con avail, always someone around on reception and safety deposit boxes.
We felt very safe there, we did not here of any thing getting stolen from the rooms, we didn't even bother getting a saftey deposit box.
Ok here are the bad points...
The hotel doesn't have a pool.
The man on reception virtually all of the time is the owner and he is quite nosy. It's a family run hotel and it seems as if he wants to know exactly where you are, where you have been where you are going..... You might think he's just being friendly but he can really get on your nerves after a while. If you are young (we are both 23) be aware that he locks the front door at 11pm and you have to ring the bell which wakes him up so he can let you in. So if you plan to come in drunk - like we did - be aware that he's VERY nosy and doesn't like people coming in late or drunk. He doesn't allow visitors either.
The Thompson holiday rep at the hotel wants you to buy the overpriced package deals, if you ask them about getting local transport, where the nearest shop is, ect... they are not so helpful. These deals are soooo overpriced, just use local buses and organise tours yourself and you will save yourself loads.
The rooms are verrrry basic, ours was a studio self catering room and it had a small hotplate, sink, tiny balcony, twin beds even tho we had requested a double, shower that was cold in the morning - hot in the evening tho, fridge, all really dated and looked like it was falling to bits!!!
There are a few hidden charges, to get aircon is 20 euros a week, and to keep your bags in the room on the last day is 25 euros. Also the safety deposit box is about 10 euros... so take some extra cash!!!
So basically, if your a bit older, have a family and enjoy mixing with other english families then you will like this hotel. Loads of kids playing together out front and it's quiet after 11pm as the owner doesn't like noise. If your young, want a pool, want to have friends over and like partying till late I would pick somewhere else!!!
