“Mediocre hotel with terrible attitude”
Reviewed 6 October 2013

If you want to find out what lack of hospitality and lack of respect towards the customer means, then you should definitely book a stay at the Porto Scoutari hotel. For those who know Patmos well, this is widely known about Porto Scoutari and its management. Perhaps it is fine for those travelers who don't really care about quality and good service or are lucky enough to meet the hotel management team when they are in a good mood! It is sad to feel that the customer is only seen as a Euro bank note and not as a person who has paid for an enjoyable and relaxing summer vacation. Well one can try booking there, I guess, and see what we mean. Good luck!

Advantages:
Nice view, sufficient breakfast and good location (if you have a car).

Disadvantages:
Small rooms, old furniture, small window, small and very old bathroom (not properly ventilated, hairdryer was broken, small shower, not clean). The most important: Offered survices do not reflect the room price.

Last month we stayed for one lovely night at this peaceful, beautiful hotel. In the morning as we headed out for the day, we were informed that our 5:00 flying dolphin hydrofoil had broken down and when we inquired at the fromt desk we were told the only transportation to our destination, the island of Samos, was leaving in five minutes! Elian Scoutari rushed in with her keys, helped us toss our luggage in her car and sped down to the ferry terminal, as she contacted the port police on her cell phone and convinced them to let us on after the cars. It worked! This was truly extraordinary hoispitality. We are most grateful and were entirely delighted by our experience at Porto Scoutari.

We have stayed at Porto Scoutari hotel for more than 10 days and we would like to share our impressions with all of you. Every aspect of our stay will be separated as per Tripadvisor's categories in order to make it easier for the reader.

Services:
Service highly depends on the management. When we expressed our disconfort about the room and the fact that this is not what we expected, the people from reception where at least indifferent stating that: "We'll see what we can do but don't expect anything". Room service was annoying knocking every morning the door to clean the room ("do not disturb" etiquettes were not available)

Value for money
Totally not worth it for the reasons stated below.

Sleep quality
Our room has not been renovated for many years so was the matress. It was old and its condition was really bad, making our backs hurt and sleep at least inconvenient.

Cleanliness.
Someone would say mediocre. The linens are supposedly changed every day, but the bathroom smelled like mold.

Location.
Location of the hotel is ideal. The view is nice overlooking a beautiful bay.

Room.
Our room has not been renovated for many years making living in it at least unconfortable. The description of the room when we booked it was that the room has a partial sea view and pool view. As we should have expected, (as there were no photos to prove it) everything was inaccurate. The room has a small window (about 0.5m x 0.5m) which has a view of the swimming pool alone and no sea view at all. Apart from that, the problem is that if someone keeps this window open to get the swimming pool view, everyone from swimming pool will get a view of his room as well. But the fact that makes living at Porto Scoutari inconvient is that the bathroom is really small with no place to leave your belongings and an EXTREMELY SMALL shower. Attached there are photos to prove my statements. Shower is so small that a regular sized person cannot even turn or lift his arms without hitting the sides of the shower. Additionally there's practically no window in the bathroom making ventilation impossible (ventilating fan is also not available) resulting to mold presense in the bathroom with a specific smell. All equipment in the bathroom was old and there was no shower gel or shampoo available (only soap in gel in wash basin and shower) moreover hairdryer was not properly functioning making it really hard to use it.

Breakfast.
Breakfast was normal but do not expect to get fresh fruits at all.

In general Porto Scoutari is totally overpriced. The services and quality of the rooms do not reflect the cost of the rooms at all.

Porto Scoutari, when one looks at it on the web, seems a bit more expensive than other hotels on Patmos Island, Greece. BUT, don't be fooled! I have stayed at another hotel on this island twice, and always thought that the noise from scooters and trucks was just something that I would have to put up with. Not so! Porto Scoutari is an oasis of calm, dedicated, and delightful staff members who went out of their way to make me feel special and cared for me with professional ease. I did not have ferry tickets to leave the island when I arrived. Not only did the staff take care of that for me, but I had the best cabin on the Blue Star Ferry that I have ever had!

The rooms are greek in decor, with interesting antiques and sculptures throughout. If something is not quite right, the staff attends to it immediately. I enjoyed my stay thoroughly.

Room Tip: My room was a junior suite, with a sitting area and day beds. I loved having cocktails out on my si...

This must have been a nice hotel in previous decades. Nice view, relatively calm, ok staff. The room was spacious. The furniture though was rather disapointingly neglected, rotten. It is a pitty that "one of the 100 romantic hotels in the world" left us with the sense that its owners were not really in tune with the motto. Breakfast was from poor to awful. Bread and cakes were not fresh, to say the least. I have to admit though that the lady-owner of the place was very polite and caring. However, the hotel desperately needs to be renovated. Breakfast must look and taste fresher. Please do not let it sink in the unforgiving sea of neglect.

Porto Scoutari is indeed the most romantic place I've ever been! It combines the beautiful aegean architecture, a lovely heart-shaped pool and an amazing view of the sea. The rooms are spacious, clean and tastefully decorated. The hotel is located near Meloi beach with crystal-clear waters and only a few minutes walk from Skala, where you can find many little shops. The staff was very helpful and kind. Breakfast was delicious. Definitely recommended!
