In ancient Kamiros you can imagine how things were in ancient times with the temples and the village. There is a special atmosphere which many people feel. The view is beautiful - we enjoyed this special place a lot and plan to go again.

One of the most beautiful places to visit especially if you are interested in ancient history. The only ancient town in Rhodes which can give you a true icon of how cities were built back then. You will have the opportunity to walk around of lots of houses and city’s marketplace. Don’t forget to go to the acropolis on the hill… the view is magnificent!!! Especially when the sun goes down you are able to see all the great colors of Aegean sea… Keep in mind that you can access ancient Kamiros until 19:30 because they close at 20:00.

Dating from 800 BC, Kamiros (Kameiros) is located about 20 miles (32km) from the cruise ship port of Rhodes Town just off the north coastal road. It is an interesting ancient city although still very much in ruins. From the acropolis at the top of the hill, you can look down the main street going down a little valley towards the ocean and see the connected house foundations going up the hill on either side. A couple houses have been reconstructed and some columns have been put together- very little reconstruction has been done. On the acropolis, there is a big cistern for storing water, enough for about 400 families. Marble carvings are scattered about, lots of them carved with Greek writing. The city was destroyed twice by earthquake, first in 226 BC, then in 142 BC. Kamiros is a good site to visit while on Rhodes, it won't be crowded and is an old city by any standard. However, I would recommend Lindos, Rhodes over this site.

A beautiful archeological park with amazing views of the sea and Turkish coast. The site is well preserved with all the ruins accessible to walk on and around (I wonder how long they will last and whether my kids will be able to see them when they grow up) There´s a nice little cafe with a pation to relax on and watch the sea and the site. However, the price of water bottle (0,5 l ) for 3 E !!! which is more expensive than in the most capital cities. Frappe was 4E. However, parking is for free. If you don´t waste money in the cafe, or money is no issue for you, this place is well worth a visit.
