“Basic”
Reviewed 12 August 2013

This was a very basic 1 room apartment with smelly bathroom with no ventilation and a noisy fridge (noisier than the air-con!) which was inefficient and therefore warmed the room! 2-ring cooker but no oven or toaster and kitchen utensils/cutlery/crockery minimal. so come prepared
Anastasia also wanted to charge for an extra loo-roll! (this is self-catering not self-every-bloody-thing) and charges 7Euros extra per day for air con whether its on for 2 mins or 24hours.

Room Tip: downstairs shared terrace - great if you get on with your neighbours. Come prepared for basic.

Thoroughly enjoyable really relaxing holiday. Room 5 what a view from a massive private balcony and separate bedroom/living room. The village is fab so very friendly and our rep Justine (Olympic) was amazing nothing too much trouble. If you want a real chill totally recommended

A wonderful welcome from Anastasia, but that welcome continued from everyone I met on the island.
I had apartment 2, which was basic, but very clean & served as an ideal base.
The sheets & towels were changed once through the week.
I will return to Symi & will be very happy to stay with Anastasia again.

We recently stayed at the Anastasia Studios for a week. We stayed in one of the 2 masionettes. The room was basic with a balcony with nice view over Pedi valley. The bed linen and towels were changed once during our stay and the bins emptied once, which in 35'c + heat in my opinion isn't enough! There was a lot of ants in the kitchen area too. You only get one toilet roll, then have to buy your own, the owner won't give you another, never come across this before anywhere! The shower was in a half bath tub? With a moulded shaped bottom what wasnt comfortable to stand on, whilst you showered. We didn't do any cooking in the room but was a kettle and small cooking oven/grill and 2 hobs.
Close to the restaurants and bars in the Chorio, we didn't use the bus, but a nice walk down the Kali Strata steps (368 approx) to the harbour.
Good service from Olympic and the Rep Justine.

Stayed at the Anastasia 2 years ago and returned in September to stay again in the same apartment, number 5. Can't add much to my previous review to be honest. It was lovely to walk back out onto the wonderful balcony with it's stunning views of Horio and Pedi Bay. Anastasia remembered me from my previous visit and apart from 'getting told off' once for leaving the outside light on (though in a nice way) there were no problems. Sheets and towels were changed twice a week, the apartment was spotless when I arrived and there was plenty of hot water. Maid service was only twice a week which was ok as I was there on my own but the bins could really do with emptying more often IMHO. The toilet roll wasn't replaced but I'd already been warned about this by Justine, the Olympic rep, and bought some serviettes from the supermarket for 60 cents which had a dual purpose.

This accommodation is not luxurious and having to hold the shower to wash my hair was a pain - but for good value accommodation in a village setting you can't go wrong IMHO. I haven't been inside the studio so can't comment on the size but this apartment is more than adequate for 2 people. Yes you can hear the occasional donkey and there are cockerals crowing in a morning but you're in the Greek countryside!

It was great to be back in Symi going on my favourite walks and of course visiting Kevin and Claudia in the Sunrise plus all the Sunrise cats and Delph and Cookie the dogs.

if you are used to the very basic accommodation of most Greek self catering apartments then the Anastasia Apartments will not surprise you, simple with all that you need for a base,fridge,2 cooking rings, pots pans ect and most importantly a kettle...We were there for a week and the apartment was cleaned twice and new sheets and towels given....
The views from the balcony were lovely, you could see pedi bay the village and the valley,i did not see any of the rubbish or mess that one of the other reviews had mentioned!?
In the morning there were a lot of cockerels ,a few Donkeys and goats to hear and for me it was lovely and a sure sign i was away on holiday, nicer to hear the sounds of the country than traffic of a city....
The veranda was a lovely place to sit and unwind after a long day at the beach or from walking around and it was good to chat with the neighbours and the owners who were lovely...Sam the husband of Anastasia brought us fresh figs on three occasions and always Anastasia made us feel at home...
It you want a simple place to stay on a STUNNING island then i would try this place out,you may just fall in love with it as i have done...

I'm loath to write anything negative about this accommodation in case it puts people off staying in Horio, as the village is a great place to stay when visiting Symi in terms of being a lot more peaceful than Yialos & easy access to both Pedi & the harbour, plus the locals couldn't have been nicer & the cafes, bars & restaurants we visited in Horio were fantastic.
Whilst the village itself looks pretty from afar the area around the Anastasia is far from inviting; waste ground, litter & pretty much how I imagine Beruit to look!
The Anasatasia apartments themselves, I accept are a very cheap option but I still expected better & it proved to be a very uncomfortable week:
- The pillow was a cushion not a pillow & was incredibly uncomfortable, like a concrete slab (though so thin it was hard to distinguish if you had your head on that or the mattress where you could feel the springs poking through)
- Sheets with holes & cigarette burns
- The shower was fine in terms of heat & water pressure but why not attach it to the wall? Pain having to hold it to wash.
- The bathroom floor constantly had an inch of water on it, I felt like I had bloody trench foot by the end of the week, get some bath boards!
- The shelf in the bathroom was broken so everything fell off it & landed on the wet floor
- the only light in the bathroom was a shaving light over the mirror that took a good few minutes to light up meaning you had to leave it on all night or wait minutes for it to work before you could use the loo
- I get that you can't flush loo roll in Greece but that being the case I expect the bathroom bin to be emptied regularly (grose)
- No privacy, thank god for the air con as in order to have any privacy what so ever, we had to shut the windows & curtains as our neighbours (who were lovely) had to walk past our window to get to their apartments
- we couldn't flush the toilet at night because of the god awful racket it made & woke the neighbours
- And finally the fridge would let out a tremendous noise intermittently waking us up in the night only to have to try to get back to sleep on the concrete pillows!
Sorry to sound like a miserable moaner as I loved Symi but could not wait to leave the Anastasia!
