I couldn't agree more with the previous review- TravelBella said it all. We, too, had a sea view suite and were awaken at 5.30 by the dust cart and other noises, but we have no complaints; it was worth if for the experience of stepping into the world of a 19th Century merchant family, the amazing view, and the convenient location.

Our only quibble would be that the orange juice at breakfast was from a carton; given the small number of rooms, the class and prices of this boutique hotel, this was disappointing.

Room Tip: sea view is worth the extra money

The Aliki is a beautiful neo-classical building, ideally located in what must be one of the Med's most picturesque spots. The age and style of the building means that if you're expecting gargantuan chain-hotel style rooms, you will be disappointed. However, if you're enjoy staying in hotels where the character of the place and the friendlines of the service makes up for the lack of five-star facilities, you're in for a treat.

We booked a sea-view double. The view from the room is simply stunning, a delight to wake up and open the curtains each morning. I can see why those who booked a room without a sea-view would be disappointed, it is worth the extra money to be facing the sea itself.

Giorgio is a very welcoming host, and his restaurant next door (Vaporetto) is a decent option for some Italian food, though not the best restaurant on the island. As with all of Symi, there is a laid-back and relaxed attitude to life, which means that staff aren't always at your beck and call, although when they are around, we found them to be attentive and helpful.

One more highlight is the breakfast out in front of the hotel. Again, the food isn't top notch, but the atmosphere and tranquility of the island are best experienced from this uniqe location.

Room Tip: Book a room with a sea view - you won't be disappointed

We stayed on August 2012. We had booked a room with side view, but we got one with a "patio" view, or to put it simpler withOUT any view!! The receptionist was ignorant, arrogant and rude when we informed her that this is not the room that we paid for. The owner Giorgio, who was equally arrogant, tried to convince us two days later that this was a better room because it is less noisy than others.

If we had not paid the hotel, we would simply stay at nearby hotels that were reasonably priced and had windows in the rooms.

Apart from that, the decoration was nice, the breakfast good and the location excellent.

Unfortunately this is a beautiful hotel run by incompetent and arrogant people.

A charming boutique hotel in a beautiful setting. There may be more luxurious places but very few that are more delightful. Friendly and welcoming staff. perfect location for exploring the island either by scooter or by boat.

Aliki is a nice traditional hotel on a dream island, Symi, although I think a bit overrated and overpriced. The hotel is situated in a picturesque harbor, well equipped with traditional furniture in the rooms. The large bed quarantees a good, deep sleep. The cleaning services are very good, while the small bathroom is well equipped with all necessities.

Some problems regarding the low water pressure, the frequent interupptions of the internet and the surprising lack of a television in the rooms could be ignored, as when you are in Symi you prefer to be out of the room for the most of the day.

The owners of the hotel are very kind and willing to help you in whatever you need. The nearby restaurant (of the same owenrship) has delicious food, although in prices much higher than in other places of the same quality in the island.

Overall Aliki is a good choice you have to spend some days enjoying the island, but in prices comparatively high than the services you receive.

Room Tip: Ask for the only room on the first floor which has sea view.

Bravo Giorgio! What a lovely hotel you have...it is a step back in time, like an old sea captain's home from 1920 welcoming you back from the modern era! Truly special...and a rustic break from ultra modern living....no tv, patchy wifi, running water that is precious and a gentle breeze with the most relaxing view in the aegean! Rooms in the front w balcony are great (but can be noisy!), small rooms at back have no view and are small but dark and cool! So, be sure to specify what you prefer...breakfast is simple (great coffee...Italian style!) and vaporetta next door is excellent....the Casio peep and bolognese were our favourites, and the fish is always fresh!). But kudos go to Giorgio for his attention to details....the towels are white and fresh, toiletries are new (kings and queens) and the laid back nature and thorough housekeeping (think of your grandmother cleaning your room everyday!) make this an antidote to chain hotels...don't expect luxury, but for symi this is ideal...perfect for 3 days... We have been a fan for years and continue to praise this little gem of an island and hotel/restaurant! See you next year....but please, one thing...get rid of the town's tacky tourist train!

Room Tip: Front for view...back for sleep quality!
