Positive -
This really is a little slice of heaven! It is a peaceful and relaxing haven in a beautiful area and perfect for a little romance! It would suit anyone, from couples to families, or people travelling by themselves. The scenery is stunning and we sat every evening on our balcony to look at the amazing sea view. Although the rooms were very basic (they had a rustic feel to them) the balcony and view made up for this! There is a private beach right by the hotel, and although small, is really lovely with golden sand and perfectly clear waters. When we were there the swimming pool was empty nearly every day, and we had fantastic views whilst swimming. The family who run the hotel are wonderful; they are welcoming and friendly but professional too. The breakfast was delicious and although the lunch and evening meals we found were not as good, the effort that went into them meant that we always gave them a go!

Negative -
The down side was that because of the peaceful location, it was in a very remote position and the closest town was a good 20 min walk away (walking uphill in the heat was not much fun!) and there was only 1 other restaurant nearby, so not much of a choice. This would suit people who want to be in a peaceful but isolated location, or I would recommend hiring a car!

A truly wonderful holiday and the hotel and family deserve to do well.

Room Tip: Get a room with a sea view!

My husband and I have just returned from a week at panas and I can honestly say we loved every minute. Nanna and her family were so welcoming and really looked after all our needs. The food was all homecooked and delicious! (Best baklava ever!) Such an honest hardworking family who really find pleasure in making your holiday a wonderful one. A lovely little beach with blue seas that locals also use is just outside the hotel entrance is small but beautiful , we are definitely going back ! ! ! (Soon I hope)!

Room Tip: Room with a balcony on first floor up for lovely views!

We booked this last minute. The hotel is small , the rooms are clean, all have a balcony, fridge and free air conditioning. Nana panas runs this hotel with love care and always has the guests interests at heart, nothing is too much trouble. The beach is small but only 50 m from the hotel with a beautiful view and clear warm waters. It never gets busy, and if it does there is a pristine large fresh water swimming pool adjacent to the hotel with ample sun loungers. The hotel has a Small restaurant but the food is varied enough to eat there every night. The breakfast was fruit yogurt honey cereal , bread and eggs and as much as you want. A car is essential to explore the rugged terrain of the island and there was enough to explored from monasteries, lakes caves small hideaway beaches or simply chill in Argostoli with a coffee or take the ferry to Lixouri. If you want a holiday in a small quiet place to chill and read and watch the view this is the place. You won't find loud music , angst ridden teenagers or a full English. This is a special bit of Keffalonia, off the beaten track, no frills and exactly what it says on the tin..... This is the place for you.....we loved it .

Room Tip: Always ask for a room at the front for a view . Numbers 12 and 22 are the best

If you want peace and quiet, good food, a pool and a beach 100 metres from your apartment door, this is a place worth considering. Only about 7km from the airport it is easy and quick to get to. The taxi fare seems to vary between 20-30 euros each way and takes about 20 minutes. The beach is small, about 100m long and 10m wide but provides safe (and warm!) swimming in crystal clear water. You can walk out into the sea for about 25 metres before you are up to your neck in it so it is very safe for children. For snorkellers there is plenty to see - starfish, urchins, crabs and a variety of pretty fish. The food at Panas is good home cooked Greek food, although by the 7th day of cheese, ham, bread, boiled egg, tinned peaches, muesli, cornflakes and yoghurt for breakfast it feels like a bit of variety wouldn't go amiss. Breakfast doesn't end until a respectable 10 am though, for those who like a lie in. Dinner is simple, fresh and home cooked. The portions are huge and even if you are doing alot of swimming, be prepared to put on rather too many inches round the middle. There are no shops here and the hotel is at the bottom of a VERY steep hill. The steep uphill 2km walk (it is exactly 2km!) to Spartia is where you will find the nearest small shop, which sells essential supplies for the villagers, and best attempted early in the morning or after 5pm. You can buy chilled drinks and bottled water at the hotel. If you want to see more of Kefalonia you will most definitely need a car, which Nana Panas will gladly organise for you at a good rate. You will also need some kind of beach umbrella if you want to sit on the beach, as it is in full sun until about 3pm, with no shelter. If it is a week of chill out time you are after, in a peaceful and uncommercialised corner of Kefalonia, Nana Panas and her family will look after you well. My only small complaint would be the hardness and lumpiness of the bed, which left me with a bit of back ache after 7 nights. However, this was outweighed by the fact that we were glad to have a room with a double bed (not all have, but we were given the choice) and the air conditioning was free. And hey, what's a bit of back ache when you can ease it off with a warm swim every day. I think there are about 40 rooms on 3 floors and it is not a good place for people who would struggle with alot of steps and hills. The most difficult decision we had to make when we were there was whether to swim in the pool or the sea. Great place. We loved it!

Room Tip: Some rooms have double beds and all rooms have small balconies.

My daughter and I arrived tired and stressed out. We left completely relaxed after ten days of being gently cosseted and nurtured by this lovely unassuming hotel. The tiny beach is seldom full and right on the doorstep. The gorgeous swimming pool is a haven of peace set in lovely gardens. The room was quiet and the air conditioning a bonus; sparkling clean with a charming maid service. The food was sensational. Simple Greek dishes with a twist of Mama Panas' magic touch. All served at lightning speed. Nothing was too much trouble for the generous Nana and her husband. We didn't hire a car so walked the hill up to the sleepy village of Spartia - nearly every day - through fields of wild flowers, olive groves, rampant oleanders, heady magnolias and lemons begging to be picked. It was bliss. Even the guests were softly spoken. Best Greek holiday yet.

Room Tip: You will lose a couple of dress sizes if you do the walk up and back down to Spartia each day! I ha...

Being honest....we have never stayed here!!...But we have had lunch here several times and thought it worthy of comment.
We last ate here some ten years ago and decided to revisit this year for "old times sake"....Little had changed in Spartia, A new beach bar had been built, but Panas was still the same but now had the addition of a Swimming pool. We had lunch there twice this year as it is so convient for the beach. The food was excellent and the staff were there usuall friendly self, We ate outside on both ocassions where it was peaceful and tranquall. The impression of Panas Hotel is one of friendlieness and cleanleness.. Its a very quite village much off the beaten track...definatly worth a visit for a sun on the small local beach, a swim in the sea and luch at Panas.

I can't understand how anyone can score the Panas Bungalows/Hotel less then 5 stars. We are a couple who have travelled extensively and had experienced every sort of Hotel/Guest house/B&B set-up imaginable, and this place is in the top 5% for value and service.

Nana Panas and her team are genuinly warm-hearted, hospitable people and the perfect hosts. Nothing is too much trouble and they are quick to identify food preferences and happy to accomodate these wherever possible.

We have just spent a very pleasant week with Nana and the family and were loathed to leave the wonderful haven they have created. Truly amoungst the most relaxing and wonderful places we have had the pleasure to stay at. We cannot think of anything we would have changed. We loved the traditional Greek food cooked by Mama Panas, all super fresh and tasty and the great table service provided by Mike (and laughs included).

The rooms were cleaned every day and kept immaculate by the cleaning staff. As was the swimming pool, which is huge and has amazing views of the sea and mountains. The pictures don't do this place justice.

Thanks Nana, we will DEFINATELY be seeing you next year!
