We have just returned from a 10 day stay at Ananias Apartments in St George South. The whole 10 days was a very relaxing, chilled out experience filled with yummy restaurants to eat in every evening.

A trip to Corfu town is worth a visit and Aqualand is a must, especially if you have children (we have a 5 & 8 year old). The beach in a few minutes stroll away and you'll be spoilt for choice for where to eat. Every restaurant we ate in was lovely, especially Seagulls (what an amazing view!), and Spiros had a fab Greek night on Sunday evenings. Lots of fun and pretty reasonable prices for food and drinks!

The apartments themselves were basic but clean and had everything you needed. The pool was relaxing and not too loud and the staff were very friendly and helpful, especially the lovely young girl working the daytime behind the bar area. She was so kind and funny.

Overall our holiday in St George South was great. Lots of relaxing, blue sea, resort was nice and quite, few day trips thrown in and the weather was perfect!

Would go back tomorrow!

My wife and I stayed here at the beginning of August for 2 weeks and overall had a great time. Before we booked, we pretty much knew what to expect as we have stayed in similarly priced self catering accommodation in Greece before. If you are expecting a plush apartment with excellent facilities then you will be disappointed. If you want a clean, basic apartment as a base and aren't too fussy about dated interiors and dated equipment then you will no doubt enjoy this place.

The apartment itself (127) was at the back of the block on the ground floor and had sunshine from early afternoon until evening. We opted out of the A/C as we normally manage without but found some nights stuffy but that was our fault! Beware of leaving the balcony door open for any length of time in the evening as the ninja mosquitoes here seem to get in and hide until you are dropping off to sleep (and then hide again when you turn the light on to find them!). Firstly, the bad points - 1) the electric hob wasn't working and was borderline dangerous as when we tried to use it, only the work surface got hot! I immediately unplugged it and tripped the fuse. This needs to be sorted as it made our self catering apartment impossible to cook in. 2) water from the A/C in the apartment above us dripped onto our balcony which meant we had to move the table and chairs and avoid drying washing on certain parts of the balcony. They need to catch the water in something or direct it away from the balcony. 3) the lighting in the room left a lot to be desired. A simple light bulb change would make a big improvement. 4) The bathroom wasn't cleaned other than a mop of the floor during our stay.

However, there were many good points such as the bedding and towels were changed frequently and the maids made the room generally tidy which has not been the case in previous Greek accommodation! The staff (Yiannis, his wife and the rest of the family/ staff) were very welcoming and friendly and advised us of places to visit. We never felt obliged to spend at the bar although we did often have a drink there which are reasonably priced. The pool was cleaned every evening and the whole pool/bar area is very pleasant and relaxed. We heard that the food was good but with so many other restaurants in the resort, we only ate here once. Although we prefer beaches, you could happily spend the day by the pool which is right near the sea anyway.

The resort itself is, as some other reviews have stated, somewhat run-down but it in no way makes if feel miserable or unwelcoming. There are plenty of good restaurants (we ate in a different one nearly every night for two weeks!) with a couple of recommendations being 'Kafesas' and 'Mersini and Anna's' (both right out of the apartments towards the end of the road). The Gyros pitta at the latter was the best we had in the resort and made for a good lunch with an ice cold beer when we had been on the nearby beach.

There are 3 main beaches in the resort. Go right out of the apartment and you will get to a beach after about 5 mins but it is quite rocky and busy. we carried on to the beach at the end of the road which was also fairly rocky but has a nice sandy part on the right. The water is crystal clear, shallow and full of little fish (and an occasional elusive octpus/squid which I surprised enough for it to squirt it's ink at me!). Go left out of the apartments and walk 10 minutes to the other end and you get to the main, busy beach of the resort. Nice and sandy as far as the eye can see but not as relaxing due to it being on the doorstep of a large hotel. If you are looking for a good spinach pie, you can get them at the supermarket up at this end!

Other than relaxing, eating and drinking and some watersports, there is not a lot else to do in the resort so we hired a quad from George's for two days (we would advise paying the extra for the newer ones as we saw several of the old ones break down) and explored nearby Chlomos, which has amazing views of the island and has many quiet narrow traditional streets to get lost in and a little arts and crafts shop which is great for gifts. There is a great restaurant which looks out over the sea and neighbouring mainland Greece and Albania. Well worth a visit! We also went to Aqua Land, a great water park in Agios Ioannis (beware that there are two places with similar names, this Agios Ioannis is inland and further than we thought but still doable on a quad bike if you're confident on the main roads) as well as visiting many other little towns and villages. In our opinion, it was getting out and about and experiencing Greek culture and meeting the friendly locals that made this holiday so enjoyable.

All in all, we would definitely recommend Agios Georgios as a relaxing holiday and despite the lack of facilities at the apartments; the staff, location, views and atmosphere of the complex make it a place that I would definitely recommend - just don't expect luxury!

Just returned from a lovely 2 week stay here, And yes people say it needs a revamp, but the way Thomas Cook take all the money, it will happen slowly, but the rooms are great, we stayed in Room 122 2bed Apt and couldn't fault it, we never cooked anything as the food was very reasonably price at the hotel, and down the main strip, family of 4 (2ad- 2kids) we was eating from 35e to 50e.
The hotel is family run and they are great, really helpful, if you need anything just ask.
"Warning Don't play pool with Yanni, he's a pool shark lol"
The pool was lovely, great size for all the guest, and plenty of sunbeds, but did notice people placing towels down VERY early, am a early riser and normally had the sunbeds sorted for us by 7.30 then stayed down there waiting for the rest of my family, not placing towels and then leave (god I hate people who do that).
The view from the coast, just walk down to the end (bottom of the pool) and watch Yanni and his kids spear fishing (sometimes not catching anything)
The main strip is only a short walk, and its only supermarkets and restaurants but they are lovely, (best for pizza - Alex's)
Easy to find from the airport if you have car hire like I did, and there parking behind the hotel.
We will be coming back to this hotel hopefully next year.

Stayed for 2 weeks in Ananais and would not return.
The main door to the apartment was able to be pushed open from the outside and unlock able from the inside! We were told it was ok as we Greece is very safe, we had two children so clearly not ok to us....2 days to rectify ( although door never locked!).
Toilet flush was broken for the first 4 days of the holiday...the plumber was busy!
Thomas Cook rep no help at all.
Maid service is haphazard at best, behind doors never swept or mopped....there was a button on the floor in the bathroom when we arrived and still there when we left. They do not clean baths or hand basins. Although linen is clean and fresh, towels brand new.
Door frames are rotted from the base up to about 6 inches, railings on the balcony were rusted and crumbling. Fridge and hob are painted over the rust, no shelf in the fridge or door on the freezer compartment. Self catering is not possible, we had one huge frying pan and a stock pot! Only enough untesils for 3 ( we did get more on request).
We found out at the end that the family are only being payed 8 euros a night for the apartments by Thomas Cook so improvements are going to be very difficult.
Good points......views from the pool are fab, breakfasts are good and so is the house wine at 2 Euro a glass :-). 2 bed apartments are huge with big balconies.
St George South is very run down and quite depressing but all the food is good and the people very friendly....the economy is obviously taking its toll.
I would recommend Kostas boat trips, we did both and had great days out. Paxos and Sivota are beautiful.

Room Tip: Pool view rooms have sea view, back rooms get the afternoon sun.

Just home from a week away to the Ananias Studio and Apartments with the Family and others i.e 12 of us and have to say if you go on 1st impressions you would turn away and find somewhere else,
The rooms defo need a referb or even just a over haul of the dangerous equiptment, but over all we all had a fantastic time. Yannis and family are very friendly and go all out to help, but if you did find a problem he was very clever to find an excuse or change the subject without you realising.
We also found on several occasions we were short changed at the bar, not sure if this was meant but once we mentioned it it never happend again.
The area the Hotel is in is very run down with lots of resturants and hotels closed , i assume this is due the the recession they country is going through and its such a shame as its a beautiful area. The view from our studio was amazing and made up for the very shabby room we had.We were in room 136 which the bath had cracks around the plug, the large electric cooking ring had a large piece broken on it and major cracks in some tiles.
Over all I would defo go back again either with the family or even just myself and hubby.as even though the place was a bit of an eyesore it was very relazing and peacful

Room Tip: Ask for pool view if possible if staying in a studio as the balconies for rooms 127 129 on ground fl...

As with most Greek Island hotels this one is fairly basic and the rooms need a little TLC,however, what it lacks in cosmetics ,it more than makes up for in peace, quiet, lovely pool with beautiful sea views.Yianni and Anastacia along with their team can't do enough to help you.they are kind, pleasant and extremely helpful.supermarkets are a 10 minute walk away and the beach about the same.the rooms are spotlessly clean and beds are changed twice a week.6 packs of water can be purchased at the bar so need to lug them back from the supermarket.the standard of food at the hotel snack bar is excellent.
sox,the hotel dog is a real character and will greet you when he is wandering around the town and then will come for some fuss in the evenings when he comes back to the hotel.A great hotel for couples who just want to relax,we will definitely visit again.these lovely people deserve to be successful ,you won't be disappointed with the service and will feel sad when it is time to leave. For eating out there are so many great restaurants and we didn't have a bad meal the whole time we were there although if I had to say which one disappointed
the most ,this was Napoleons, the food wasn't bad but not as good as the rest.Balcony,Alex's
And Kafe SAS TOO,and seagulls all deserve a visit.

Room Tip: 135 overlooked the sea.some ground floor rooms open out onto pool.some first floor rooms have great...

Just back from Ananias and had a great time, mainly due to other guests from Scotland who were great company and the always smiling barmaid Sladja. Like others have said before the place could do with a refurb but it was always clean and tidy with good food at decent prices.
There is a nice pool and plenty sunbeds but very few umbrellas. The umbrella problem improved in the second week when we mentioned we were going to the beach due to lack of shade around the pool.
The resort itself is basically one long street with plenty bars and restaurants but little entertainment. Great if you are looking for a relaxing holiday by the sea with a couple of nice beaches. Would recommend Seagull's, Balcony, and Panorama restaurants. All very good.
Quite enjoyed no tv in the room. (Well there was actually but it did'nt work). Overall a very enjoyable holiday with friendly people in a good location.

Room Tip: Ask for a pool view or you could have a view of bushes a few feet away.
