Owner description: At the top end of the 'Spaniada', Corfu Town's central park area, stands the Palace of St Michael and St George. This is the most significant building from the period of English rule and was originally built as the luxury residence of the then British Lord High Commissioner. It's now home to the Corfu Museum of Asian Art - the only one of its kind in Greece, dedicated to the arts of Asia.

“The building and its history are great ánd the exhibit is really nice and informative!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 July 2014

As others already stated: two birds, one stone! On the ground floor you will learn about the British being in Corfu and upstairs you will enjoy some beautiful Asian art, different countries, different periods in time. We've enjoyed both the building as all the information about Asian art. Some of the signs have a bit too much information and the way the light is placed in the showcases is not always the best choice, but they have put time and effort in it, I do like the way they constructed the exhibit and if I ever visit Corfu again, I will visit the museum as well, just to see what theme they've picked up next!

“Amazing collections! Lovely palace!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 June 2014 via mobile

2 birds with 1 stone.

Some rooms within the palace have secondary walls to showcase the Japanese artwork. This was interesting presentation for me as it doesn't damage the original building which I appreciate.

It was a pleasant surprise to travel to Corfu and learn so much about Asian culture and their arts.

Located in the Liston, walking distance to the Old Fortress. Make time for this!

“Superb Gardens surrounding Palace of St Michael & St George”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 June 2014

The Old Town of Kerkyra, Corfu is a truly magical place. We arrived on foot from the Port having already explored; the New Fortress, Market Square and a myriad of cobbled streets, with their shops, cafes and restaurants, leading to the Centre's Green Patch where you might be lucky enough to see a game of cricket in action.

However, instead, and much to our delight we came upon the Palace of St Michael & St George located on the other side of the road from the pitch.

If we had done our homework beforehand, we would have allowed enough time to view the huge Asian Art collection inside. But this was not to be. Instead, we took in the views of the Palace, it's architecture, graceful archers, and superb verandah surrounded by lush gardens and lawns.

In the heat of the day the trees overhead provided a canopy of fresh leaves and flowers with a citrus bouquet giving a welcome relief from the hot sun.

From our elevated position by the palace walls we enjoyed stunning views of the sea and the small marina in the distance.

Unfortunately the clock was ticking so we were back on the move to sample some Greek Cuisine before heading back to the ship. After our meal we caught the local bus back to the Port.

Corfu is simply gorgeous it would be a sin not to come back and explore further a field. The local people are charming and very welcoming.

This little video is the sum total of my 1 day experience. Enjoy!

“Wonderful museum open on Monday unlike others in town!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 November 2013

Unlike almost all the other museums in town, it is open on Monday until about 3:30pm. This museum has several works that trace the influence of Greece on Buddhist art in regions up through Pakistan among its treasures on essentially one floor. Display titles and information panels are in both Greek and English, and the art is well-lit and beautifully displayed. A 5-minute walk from Liston, this museum is well worth one hour of your time. When we visited, the Palace rooms were closed; I would not let this deter you from seeing the fine art.
